1 Introduction
This document is a guideline to installing the RBS 6601 and its associated RRU’s
in a Vodafone Network and should be used in conjunction with the following
installation documents:

3/1531-LZA 701 6001 Uen J | 2010-10-11 this document describes how to

install the RBS 6601 main unit on site and how to connect it to external
interfaces.

9/1531-LZA 701 6001 Uen D | 2010-08-12 this document describes how to install
the Remote Radio Unit multi-Standard (RRUS) on site and how to connect it to
external interfaces.

15/1531-LZA 701 0003 Uen G This document describes general principles for
how to install an optical cable between the main unit and the remote radio unit in
a Main-Remote system.

There are multiple installation option and each option has a different installation
procedure, below is a list of the options

1.1 Option 1

Existing install:
RBS 3202 in a Cabin, on a rooftop.

Upgrade:
Install RBS 6601 in the Tx rack in the Cabin and install RRU’s at base of antenna

1.2 Option 2

Existing install:
RBS 3202 in an equipment room on a rooftop.

Upgrade:

Install RBS 6601 in the equipment room and install RRU’s at base of antenna or
on the wall in the equipment room.

1.3 Option 3

Existing install:
RBS 3202 in an equipment room at ground level and antennas are installed on
the rooftop.

Upgrade:
Install RBS 6601 in the equipment room and install RRU’s at base of antenna.

1.4 Option 4

Existing install:
RBS 3101 in a compound at ground level and antennas are installed on the
rooftop.

Upgrade:
Install RBS 6601 in the 3101 (3rd party space) and install RRU’s at base of
antenna.

2 Option 1

2.1 6601 Main Unit Installation

For a generic rooftop installation, where there is a Vodafone cabinet the Main
Unit will be installed in the transmission rack on the right hand side as you walk in
the door.

2.3 Power

2.4 Power for the Main Unit

The Main Remote gets its power from the transmission power supply. A 10A
circuit breaker must be installed, but prior to doing this one must check if the
power supply has got enough rectifiers installed, to work this out one must use
the following lookup table

Table 1

Please be aware that you will be working on a live DC distribution unit and
special care and attention must be taken not to disrupt any live equipment.

Fig 8 Fig 9

Once the covers have been removed a 10A circuit breaker needs to be installed.
Vodafone’s procedure for installing new DC breakers should be adhered to. This
new 10A circuit breaker is to be used to power up the Main Unit only and not to
power up the Remote Units.

Fig 10 Fig 11

Connect the power lead that was provided with the kit into the Main Unit and
dress the cable neatly down the side as per fig 11 and connect to new 10A
Circuit breaker. The main unit should now be ready to power up.

2.5 Power for the remote units

The remote units will get power from a Eltek DC distribution system, see fig 12.

6. If connection check level is "POOR", follow the instructions on the screen. You
can always press "Continue" to move forward but note that a poor connection
renders a poor result.

7. All test parameters are fixed and non-adjustable to ensure accurate and
consistent results.

- Distance 2.5 km (1.5 miles)

- Pulse width approximately 5 ns

- Mean value creation 5120 gives a measuring time of approximately 10 seconds.

“Test in Progress” is displayed on the screen for approximately 10 seconds.

The "Laser enabled" symbol is displayed.

4 Remote Radio Head Mount Options

4.1 Installation Option 1 – Ericsson Apollo 1

The Apollo 1 installation is a Standalone tri-pod arrangement that can

accommodate up to 5 RRU’s. It does not necessarily need a flat surface as the
legs are fully adjustable to accommodate a indifference in height of around 30
cm. This design is an Ericsson design and is still undergoing testing and
evaluation.

4.2 Installation Option 2 – Tyco Free Standing

4.3 Installation Option 3 – Wall mount

The RRUW must always be installed with the cable connections facing
downwards

To prevent hot air from one RRUW heating the intake air of another RRUW,
RRUWs must never be installed above one another

To ensure adequate airflow between the units, allow a minimum of 400mm free
space above and 300mm free space minimum below each RRUW. Allow a
minimum of 200mm free space between RRUs installed side by side. A minimum
of 1 meter free space is required in front of the RRUs

4.4 Installation Option 4 – Pole mount

4.5 Installation Option 4 – Existing Structures

This request covers the Vodafone site design requirements for the following site types with regards the deployment of
remote radio heads. A remote radio head should be considered to be around 17 litres and weigh up to 20 Kg:

Roof Top Designs

• All roof tops should allow for a minimum of 4 remote radio positions per sector.

• Major cities should allow for 5 remote radio units per sector or if the site already has 900, 1800 and 2100 MHz.

• During the installation of any remote radio unit, the power and fibre should be dimensioned to allow for the
upgrade of the site to a full complement of remote radio heads. The fibre type should be the same as the initial
radio head installed.
