ESSENTIAL TOPIC Sports Organization and Management
SPECIFIC TOPIC Planning and Organizing in Sports
Demonstrates understanding of sports in optimizing one’s health as a habit; as requisite for PA performance, and as a
CONTENT STANDARD: career opportunity.

PERFORMANCE STANDARD: Organize an inter-class sport tournament that will maximize student’s full potential in terms of sports performance in playing
and officiating.
The students in a class is assigned a designated task for an inter-class sports fest. As a member of the committee, students
CULMINATING PERFORMANCE will determine the specific task to be delivered for the event either as a players, committee members and officiating officials.
STANDARD They will be assessed according to proficiency in the delivery of the tasks and the efficiency of the task delivered in relation
to the success of the sport event conducted.
LC 13. Participants in an organized event that addresses health/sports issues and concerns

At the end of the lesson, the learners will be able to:


1. Participates in the planning and organizing the sports tournament;
SPECIFIC LEARNING OUTCOME: 2. Showcase one’s organizational skills;
3. Displays initiative, responsibility and leadership in the planning session.

TIME ALLOTMENT: 3 hrs. (3 meetings) HEALTH OPTIMIZING PHYSICAL EDUCATION 1 (H.O.P.E 1) is given 60 minutes per week.

Week 1: Opening Speech (5 minutes)


Surely, there are sports people everywhere. Whether in school, office or community, people enjoy sports activity,
such as intramurals. Aside from the fun, showcase of talents and skills, and having a break from work and school life, a
INTRODUCTION sports event is also a a good venue to develop camaraderie and good relationships among peers.

In almost every school and big companies in the country, intramurals are commonly held to foster good bond
among students, teachers, employees and staff. Behind these successful sports events are the people who work hard and
understand how to manage and organize these special events.

Guide Question:
 Have you tried managing any event in school? If yes, how do you find the experience?
 What specific responsibility have you performed and how do you manage to do your task to make the event
successful?
 If given a chance to performance the same task/s again in the future, what are the things you need to improve?

Note: The teacher shall emphasize that, in this lesson the learners will be able to; Participants in the planning and organizing the
sports tournament; showcase one’s organizational skills; and Displays initiative, responsibility and leadership in the planning session
that will help them to prepare for the performance task.

Week 1: Activity No. 1 “Organizers List” (15 minutes)


Given a chance to organize events, the group shall create a list of items to consider in the planning process. After 15
minutes, the class shall paste the groups output on the board. (using ½ manila paper and marker)

The planning should involve the following List of items to consider in the planning process:

A very good tool to ensure a sound planning process of your tournament is to appoint an event committee – The members
of the committee have to be trustworthy, skilled, committed, and reliable. – The size of the committee depends on the size
and complexity of an event. – For events in the community you don’t need a big number of members. To sum it up, the
event committee is responsible for strategic decisions about the event – In some cases the event committee is also
responsible for appointing and overseeing the event coordinator.

Week 2: Activity No. 3 “Review” (10 minutes)
The teacher shall facilities on the recap from the previous meetings activity and be able to connect the students’ learning to the
next activities to enhance students understanding on the lesson.

 Among the different sports management process what interest you most and why?
Week 2: Activity No. 4 “Job Description” (10 minutes)

Week 2: Activity No. 5 “Reporting” (20 minutes)


1. Over-all In-charge of the Event/Event Coordinator – oversees the flow of the work of the different committee – Ensures
the smooth run of the event implementation
2. Logistics/Secretariat – responsible for working all paperwork – related activities such as CERTIFICATES,
REGISTRATION, RESULTS OF THE GAME, BOOKINGS< PERMITS, etc.
3. Program Committee – responsible in organizing lie events such as OPENING CEREMON, PA Booth and AWARDING
CEREMONY – provide entertainment to all participants

4. Officiating Officials – responsible in organizing the game – Act as referee, umpire, linesmen, commentator, time
keeper, score and the like
5. Marketing and Design – responsible for looking for potential participants who will join the event by sending formal letter
of invitation – craft the t-shirt design.
6. Food and Budget – responsible for preparing food to the different working committees – feed the hardworking people
behind the event
7. Safety, Security and First – Aid – responsible food to the different working committees – feed the hardworking people
behind the event
Week 2: Activity No. 6 “What’s My Task – Assignment” (10 minutes)
The class is be divided into seven (7) groups. Each group is assign to one of the different committee assignment and
shall draft a plan for the following items:

Week 3: Activity No. 7 “Review (10 minutes)


The teacher shall facilities on the recap from the previous meetings activity and be able to connect the students’
learning to the next activities to enhance students understanding on the lesson.

 Identify one Committee Designation and explain their job description.
ENRICHMENT  Which among the identified committee designation you don’t find yourself performing well and why?

Week 3: Activity No. 8 “Presentation of Out-put” (30 minutes)


Each committee shall present their out-put in class and required to make recommendations after each presentation using the
template below.

Week 3: Activity No.9 “Presentation Report Evaluation” (5 minutes)


 Content criteria are used to evaluate the degree of a student’s knowledge and understand of facts, concepts and
principles.
 Process criteria are used to evaluate the proficiency level of performance of a skill or process, as well as the
effectiveness of the methods and procedures used in a task.
 Quality criteria are used to evaluate the overall quality and craftsmanship of a product or performance.
 Impact criteria are used to evaluate the overall results or effects of a product or performance given its purpose and
audience.

Week 3: Activity No. 10 “Teacher / Peer Evaluation” (5 minutes)


Evaluate your fellow group members by assigning numbers based on individual performance in the group setting. The purpose of
this evaluation is to help individuals understand how their work is perceived by others. Evaluations will be anonymous and will help the
instructor assign points for class participation.

Performance Task: An inter-class sports tournament will be organized by the students. They will be assigned to a designated task specifically identifying members
of the committee. Determining the specific task to be delivered for the event as a player, coaching, technical committee (logistics, budget, and safety and
security), officiating officials (table officials, referee/umpire, scorer/statistics and records). Students will be assessed base on their proficiency in the delivery of the
task.
