the territorial dispute, decreed that the two lands should be divided equally between Horus and Seth. Horus was bequeathed the governorship of Lower Egypt while Seth was appointed ruler of Upper Egypt/' Note that the traditional previous area of Horus had been southern Egypt. VVeche says that Seth's followers displaced Horus to the north. The High Priests of Ptah of the new northern capital Memphis devised The Memphite Theology (i.e. the theology of the Egyptian Delta region, Memphis was near Cairo), with the god Ptah as its central deity. Ptah gave life to all things through his divine speech, or logos. The characteristic Ennead features of Ptah are the tongue, lips and teeth giving rise to all things, whereas those of Amun-Re (Ra) were his fingers and semen. Ptah transmits life by thinking and commanding.192 In terms of the three social divisions reconstructed for PIE society, the god of the followers of Seth, Amun-Re (Ra the sun god), had essential qualities of creation associated with fertility (semen) and handiwork (fingers), which we would probably classify as showing association with the third PIE fertility/ agricultural function: the Vanir/Devas. On the other hand, Ptah, the god of 1 lorus' followers, bestowed creative activity through his lips and teeth, i.e., by thinking and speaking.193 We would associate these attributes with the PIE first class of priests and kings: with the Aesir/Asuras living in "lower Egypt", which would be the lowlands and northern coast of the Black Sea Basin. Seth, on the other hand, was granted "upper Egypt", or control of the Bosporus complex and its environs before the myths were exported to historical Egypt. Thus, the royal brothers Seth and Osiris (with his son Horus) are perhaps associated with distinct identifiable elements of our reconstructed PIE society. This strongly suggests a cultural mixed marriage between PIE social functions within the ruling household. Notably, Geb (agricultural goddessworshipping Vanir/ Deva) was of the earth while his bride Nut (pastoral sun- worshipping Aesir/Asura/De Danaan) was a sky goddess. Assuming that the Fomorians imposed a system of matrilineal ascendancy to the kingship (through the female lineage) upon the otherwise patrilineal De Danaan, an aspiring fertility class contender for the throne would have to marry
