To create a gauge chart, execute the following steps. gauge-chart.xls

1. Select the range H2:I6.

2. On the Insert tab, in the Charts group, choose Other Charts, and select Doughnut. Follow Excel Easy

3. Select each data point and click Format Selection to change the fill (Solid fill or No fill). Below this is already
done for the Donut series (4 data points). For the Pie series (3 data points), change the fills to No fill, black (small
part) and No fill. On the Format tab, you can select the Donut series or Pie series. Use the ← and → keys to
select a data point.

4. Select the Donut series, click Format Selection, and change the angle to 270 degrees.

5. Select the chart, right click, click Format Chart Area and change to No fill and No line.

6. Remove the legend.

7. Select the Pie series and change the chart type to Pie.

8. Select the Pie series, click Format selection, and change the angle to 270 degrees and plot the series on the
secondary axis.

Result. The Pie chart is nothing more than a transparent slice of 75 points, a black slice of 1 point (the needle)
and a transparent slice of 124 points.

9. Use the Spin Button to change the value in cell I3 from 75 to 76. The Pie chart changes to a transparent slice of
76 points, a black slice of 1 point (the needle), and a transparent slice of 200 - 1 - 76 = 123 points. The formula in
cell I5 ensures that the 3 slices sum up to 200 points.
