Interested in an adventure?
Thanks for your interest in volunteering with Scout Adventures in the UK.

We’ve got some great opportunities available to volunteer at our Scout Adventures locations
across England and Scotland. We’re looking for passionate and enthusiastic people to be part of
the most important teams on centres; helping to deliver life changing experiences to young people.
You can be sure of a challenge whilst volunteering with us; but we hope you also find your stay
enjoyable, exciting and hugely rewarding. Your time, energy and enthusiasm help to ensure that
thousands of children and adults each year are able to participate in top quality outdoor
experiences, challenge themselves, and try something new.

About us
All of our sites are owned and run by
either The Scout Association (UK) or
The Scout Association (Scotland) and
are all part of the Scout Adventures
Network. We offer residential
accommodation, camping and activities
to over one hundred thousand young
people every year.

Our Volunteer Programme
Our Volunteers are our most important team members. We have around 150 placements available
per year, varying in length and location. We accept applications from both Scouts and non-Scouts
- having a passion for young people and the outdoors is most important to us.

The programme has been running for over 10 years now and has seen volunteers from over 50
nations take part. As well as having an opportunity to change the lives of young people on our
centres; you’ll also make loads of new friends from across the world.

The placements:
We generally have the following placements available:
February – October: 8 months
August - August: 12 months
There are various locations available, depending on the size of site and number of volunteer spaces
available.

The role:
All of our volunteers are trained as an Activity Instructor; you’ll be trained to deliver a wide variety
of activity sessions from orienteering to archery, climbing to campfires. You’ll be supervising groups
of both children and adults, providing an outstanding level of customer service and ensuring that all
activities are delivered to the highest health and safety standards.
To keep our centres running smoothly, there’s loads of other things that need doing, so we’ll also
ask you to help us maintain our centres and keep them clean, you could also find yourself working
in reception welcoming our guests, checking them in and showing them to their accommodation.
You might also spend some time working in our shops or helping out in the kitchen.

FAQ’s
I don’t have a UK or EU passport

Scout Adventures can issue you with a Certificate of Sponsorship to support you in applying for a visa to come
to the UK. This shows that we are willing to support you during your time in the UK and that you have a
certified placement to attend. Certificates will normally be issued no more than 3 months prior to your
placement start date.

Can I travel in the UK during my placement?

Yes! We encourage you to see as much of the UK as possible whilst you are here. Generally, our volunteers
take a couple of days per week to explore.

Do I have to be over 18?

Yes. We can only accept applications for those who will be aged over 18 on their date of arrival.

Does it cost to be part of the programme?

No, however you will need to pay for your own visa, travel and any health surcharges.

I can’t afford the flights to the UK

If you don’t manage to raise the funds by yourself, we may be able to support you with purchasing your
flights to the UK. This generally means that we will buy the flights for you and then deduct a small amount
from your weekly expenses. Please contact our volunteering team for more information as availability is
limited.
