Counselor Connection 
Dear Parents and/or Guardians,

Hello, we hope you are as excited as we are for the start of the 2019
-2020 school year here at Morrisville Elementary Year – Round Elementary. I am
your School Counselor, Christina Brislin, serving all tracks this year. Many
exciting things are in store for your children. As your child’s Counselor, the most
important part of my job is to help students’ feel good about themselves. I am
concerned about his/her emotional well-being, academic progress, and
personal/social development. There are many programs I may use to accomplish
these tasks.  

The following are provided by our program:

1. ​Short term​ individual and possible small group counseling. Typically, I will see a student 4-6 times
about a particular problem. I will coordinate good times with your child’s teacher to pull them for
counseling.
2. Rotational classroom guidance lessons. Some topics include problem solving skills, how to resist
bullies, self-esteem, and academic success.
3. I will work collaboratively with students, parents, and teachers to help students who may be
struggling with behavior, emotional, and/or academic concerns.
4. I help to coordinate referrals to outside agencies for parents.

A Word About Individual Counseling…

If your child’s classroom teacher feels as though he/she needs to see the school counselor, I will ask that they
contact you for permission. However, if your child makes a self-referral, I will probably not need to contact you
unless there is a particular issue that is recurring or affects the child’s safety and well-being. In these cases, I will
certainly contact you. I am not required by law to keep detailed case notes on students. Therefore, I am usually
not able to testify in court cases involving custody/divorce.

How to get in touch with me…

Communication between school counselors and parents is vital. If you have a concern about
your child, you may call, email, and/or leave me a note. I will usually respond within two school days to
discuss your concerns.
If you have any questions about our counseling program, please call me or visit the counseling website
for updated information on current programs/volunteer opportunities/services. I look forward to
working with you in the coming year to help your child have a successful experience at Morrisville
Elementary.
