Profile Family Creation
DEFINITION AND FUNCTION
PROFILE DIFFERENT TYPES OF PROFILE FAMILY TEMPLATES:

- A profile is a single line, chain of connected lines, or closed
loop that can be used to generate a form. Manipulate
profiles to change the geometry of a form.

Since “PROFILE” is mainly connected to modelling (for
physical appearance purposes) therefore, information of it CS
can be taken but not limited from “CONSTRUCTION
DRAWINGS, SPECIFICATION OF MATERIALS” as provided by
the “TRADE COORDINATORS”.

EXERCISE ON CREATING RECTANGULAR/ SQUARE USING “PROFILE”
1. To begin with creating a new

family, there are two method.

7. Then save the file as : “CCDC-RECTANGULAR PROFILE” to
the desired folder location.

EXERCISE ON CREATING CIRCULAR USING “PROFILE”
1. To begin with creating a new

family, there are two method.
2. From “New Family – Select

Template File” select “Metric
Profile”.

3. From ‘Create” Tab select Line

(LI) for Sketch Mode’’.
4. While on Sketch Mode, draw a “circle line”

as illustrated on the image on the right side.
Then press “Modify” tool command/ press
twice the “ESC” keyboard to end the current
command.

5. From “Create” Tab input the

given dimension using the
“Diameter” for dimension.

6. On the overall dimension assign label as shown.

7. Save with a file name: CCDC-CIRCULAR PROFILE on the
desired folder location.

- It has additional features/ functions such as Electrical
Connector, Duct Connector, Pipe Connector, Cable Tray
Connector and Conduit Connector.

be taken but not limited from “OPERATION MANUAL,
CATALOGUE, CONSTRUCTION DRAWINGS, SPECIFICATION
OF MATERIALS” as provided by the “TRADE

MEP FAMILY TEMPLATES COMMONLY USED
Under “Create” Tab, different MEP “Connectors” are on the
menu. These are the following:
❑ Electrical Connector – for Electrical Services.
❑ Duct Connector – for Ducting Services.
❑ Pipe Connector- for Cable Tray/ Trunking Services.
❑ Conduit Connector – for Services that is using Conduit.

EXERCISE ON CREATING RECTANGULAR/ SQUARE USING “DUCT CONNECTOR”
1. To begin with creating a

new family, there are two
method.

19. Click the “Associate Family Parameter” button to link the parameters of the linked family. Under “D” parameter select “Height for its “Associate
Family Parameter”. While “W” parameter select “Width” for its “Associate Family Parameter”. Refer to the image below.

20. After step 19 click “OK” to finish this procedure. 21. While on “3D View” click the “Create” Tab then select the “Duct Connector” to establish
the precise connector for the created family.
22. Then under “Placement” select “Face” to establish the connector position to the
created family.

23. Then place the connector to the face of the created solid form. 24. Select the “Duct Connector” the refer to its “Properties”
then under “Associate Family Parameter” button to link the
parameters of the linked family. Under “Height” parameter
select “Height” for its “Associate Family Parameter” then click
“OK”. While “Width” parameter select “Width” for its
“Associate Family Parameter” then click “OK” . Refer to the
image below.

25. After linking its “Height” and “Width” properties, change and follow the
image below for this “Duct Connector” properties.

click “Apply” to finish this proceeding. Then click “Ref Level” under
“Project Browser” to rotate the position of the “Duct Connector”.
26. Click “Modify” command tool/ press twice the “ESC” keyboard to
escape from the current command.

its “Associate Family Parameter”. Refer to the image below. Then click “OK”.

the precise connector for the created family.
