The US and Pakistan hope to resolve the recent tensions in mutual relationships as their
representatives meet for the three-day Strategic Dialogue here. The dialogue comes closely after
the killing of three Pakistani soldiers in a NATO strike prompted Islamabad to enforce a brief
closure of a key supply route to Afghanistan.
On the other hand, it is the November mid-term elections in US so America would be willing to
give Pakistan some room, including military and economic aid; provided it can give Obama
administration a boost before the election. This boost can come in no other form than the North
Waziristan operation. These talks will be taking place just before Obama's visit to New Delhi
and NATO summit in Lisbon on November 19th. Thus, not only who controls US Congress is at
stake but also the future of NATO. This article looks at the significance of US-Pakistan talks in
the context of current regional and global geopolitical realities.

So These Strategic dialogues are very much important for both the countries, both the countries
have their agenda on these talks but America¶s main focus is on the terrorist activities, The

The third round of Pak-America Strategic Dialogue was started on October 20, 2010 in
Washington; the agenda of these dialogues was vey much diversified: the issues which were
discussed were mainly related to power, agriculture, education and security, civil nuclear
agreement between America and Pakistan and Trade between America and Pakistan. The
Pakistani delegation was led by Pakistani Foreign Minister, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Pakistani
Chief of Army staff General Kayani, FM Qureshi, Finance Minister Abdul Hafeez Sheikh and
other senior officials also attended the dialogues while the U.S. Delegation as led by US
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. India¶s violation of Indus river water treaty was also in the
agenda and demanded US to play its role in this regard.
Foreign Office sources said that Pakistan will demand from US for establishment of
Reconstruction Zones (RoZs) in the Tribal Areas while urge various Members of the Congress
for methodical legislation and immediate removal of hurdles in this regard. During their stay,
COAS, FM will meet US Defense Secretary Robert Gates, United States Chairman Joint Chiefs
of Staff Admiral Mike Mullen besides US National Security Advisors and other high ups to
throw light on some of the thorny issues like war against terrorism, security, Defense and
enhancing cooperation on military and other fields in length

In the Strategic Dialogues America is focusing mainly on:

½Ê Kill Jalalud din Afghani¶s and Mulla Umer¶s Group, wherever they are, whether in South
Waziristan
½Ê Do not close the supplies of NATO and Americans should be permitted whatever they
want to do in Pakistan regarding operations, whether they do drone attacks or send black
water to Pakistan or send American or NATO army but Pakistan cannot not condemn it.
½Ê Governor Awais Ghani should be removed from NWFP and they want to elect their own
person just like karzai. As already ANP has destroyed the province.
½Ê Only Kyani is defending the Pakistan¶s welfare and contradicting American policies.
Because governor Awais Ghani is like federation of the province, if he would be removed
then the whole province would be lost from Pakistan because there are militants from
Tehrik-e-Taliban or incompetent MNA¶s Molvi or ANP only one person is representing

the federation that is Awais Ghani and America is putting pressures on it while PPP has
even proposed the names for the seat
½Ê Americans are threatening Pak-army in other words by saying that they want democracy
in Pakistan and want this corrupt government to fulfill its tenure
½Ê Gilani said that no drones are allowed in Pakistan, that permission was given by the
previous Govt. not by us.

Discussion with general kyani regarding Haqani group is being held because all the decisions in
Pakistan, related to security are taken by the general. These discussions are being done with
General Kyani because more American forces are there and more attacks can be done due to
which more deaths can occur and Haqani network and cross border militants would be
responsible for it. So Americans are trying to start dialogues with them and Pakistan¶s help is
required in this perspective.
Second thing which was discussed in the dialogues was that, America wants big operations in
Waziristan but Pakistan cannot do so due to American¶s bad security policies regarding Pakistan.
American¶s are just focusing on killing the terrorists in Waziristan without any safety for the
innocent tribes and people living there and General Kyani is not willing to do so as Local People
who are residing there are not safe due to these operations.
On first day agriculture, power and technology were being discussed mainly in the dialogues,
some positive results for Pakistan came out of these talks, America has promised to help Pakistan
out with the aid, it was promised that America would give more than 3.5 million dollar in
agriculture sector to Pakistan which is apart of the aid given for the flood relief, as the agriculture
sector is being destroyed due to flood in Pakistan. The help includes with the preparation of land
for cultivation, high quality seeds, fertilizers and earth moving machinery so that irrigation
system can be improved.

America knows that irresistible Pakistanis do not consider America as a friend and they are
striking against America regarding different aspects of life, so America is working on it by
helping Pakistan and by giving aids in different sectors of life.
Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Pakistani Foreign Minister said in his speech in Washington, that we do
not need aid but we want trade with America as Europe Union has opened for Pakistan, so that
our factories starts running, our production starts again and our youth would not be worried
about their future and employment because factories are shutting down and industries are closed
due to flood and economic crisis in Pakistan In response to it, America is looking forward to it.
Secondly, Military aid is to be granted by US to Pakistan apart from the civil aid and the
technology regarding military will also be transferred to Pakistan in order to enhance the
Pakistani defense and military power for the peace purposes and in order to use that aid for the
drones or operations in Waziristan.
The Obama administration, is giving final touches to a security assistance package of two billion
dollars for Pakistan to help Pakistan fight extremists. The aid will help the Islamabad purchase
helicopters, weapons systems and equipment to intercept communications.
