Opportunity
Youtube:

2nd largest search engine in the world

35 hours of video is uploaded per minute
Youtube is 60% of all online video content
90% is UGC
Mobile viewing up 160% in 2010 over 2009
Advertising <display> interest up 10x over 2009

Problem(s)
Water, Water Everywhere...

Classifying video is a nightmare. Most uploaded video lacks description, tags and
proper titles. Compounded, this means search is broken.

Content and audience is fragmented. Session times need to be improved and

audience needs a compelling reason to stay.

A Premium content play is needed. Brands don’t know what their ads are getting
paired against. The only decent targeting is against demographics and geography.

Summary: To make ‘Web TV’ a win (i.e., attract brand ad dollars and normals)
online video needs superior discovery + classification + delivery

Solution
Curated ‘TV’ Stations:

People should discover video (push), not search for it (pull)

Classifying video isn’t about facial recognition or transcription.

Algorithm + Crowd = Superior Discovery (Quora, Oyster, Groupon)

Youtube is missing the ability for *people* to edit, reclassify and aggregate
content.Youtube is only one source (albeit a big one)

Creating a seamless experience around hyper-specific “stations” offers an

experience no cable network can match

Solution
Quora has developed an extremely powerful “curation engine” that combines
human + algorithm. Intangible Labs is applying this type of approach to video

Your personalized TV programming evolves/improves based on the topics and

people you engage with = curated content + intelligent discovery

The improved data our community builds around video assets can be leveraged
by partners for superior ad targeting and repurposing

We aim to be the go-to mobile/web app for consuming online video. We help
Boxee, Google TV, Apple TV and Youtube.

Our classification/discovery engine transcends video: photos, documents, etc

Status
Alpha currently in development.
>>Technology Stack: Rails/Mongo + Mobile

Already expressed interest from CBS + Comcast

>>Comcast wants to develop hyper-specific ‘stations’ for content it
receives from independent carriers such as Black Planet (largest African
America online community)

Youtube launched a very early version of ‘personalized TV’, but lacking a

human curation engine. We view this as a solid proof point:

Win-Win
What if...

Online video could be aggregated, tagged (with topics) and summarized by

a community that cares about that subject matter?
>> superior search and advertising

Youtube had a team of editors curating the best content to develop

personalized programming just for you? (pandora for video)
>> extended session times, richer community

You could ‘subscribe’ to new video content about any person, place or thing
of interest to you? (video rss)
>> superior discovery and real-time consumption
