Memo 2

Completing the simulation “Using Probability Distribution in Research Simulation”

involved the usage of statistical tools such as probability distribution and the critical limit

theorem which help in making decisions about buying machinery. The stakeholders in the

simulation have different opinions as to the proper course of action the organization should take.

Howard Grey (CEO) which is one of four stakeholders in the simulation. Howard has

been with the company for a long time (ten years). When is come to purchasing machinery,

Howard believes that the product (watches) does not have a future if the quality is not sufficient.

The second stakeholder Jean Dubois, (VP, of Mechanical Watches Division) the simulation

states the she played a big role in establishing the product division. Jean is a inventor and patents

this product using effective techniques. The third stakeholder Uma Gardner (VP, Production of

Mechanical Watches Division) is the person who manages the production center. Uma knows

how the product industry operates and has knowledge of the processes implemented in this

company. The last stakeholder, Amanda Hamilton (the VP of Marketing) has been responsible

for increasing the company’s brand value and promoting the company as a maker of luxurious

products.

During the simulation a decision had to be made about buying machinery and which

machineries to purchase. I chose to purchase the poison machines, timing machines and

customized movement holders. These three machines were chosen to improve the manufacturing

of the company’s product (watches). A brief description of the poison machine is a machine used

to balance the wheel. Poison machines are important to determine the accuracy of the movement

of various positions. A brief description of a timing machine is an indispensable tool for

watchmakers and it allows them to help test the movements’ performance. It is used as a

diagnostic tool while assembling the movement. It also is used as a final time regulation tool.

Through timing machines, the latest computerized machines give the daily rate, the beat error

and the aptitude on an LCD screen. Finally, the customized movement holder holds the base

plate of the movement, keeping it flat and secured so the rest of the movement can be assembled.

There were two other machines that would have helped the production of this product but the

simulation had a budget. However the simulation did tell me I made good decision choosing

machinery to buy.
