Parents who want to give their children the opportunity to learn
how to swim this autumn need look no further than Aura Youghal
Leisure Centre who is now taking enrolments for the next course
of its popular ‘Swim Academy’.
The Aura ‘Swim Academy’ offers children of all levels and abili-
ties the opportunity to have fun and build their confidence in the
water over a 10-week period.
Aura’s experienced instructors will be on hand to guide each child
through the basics of swimming and improve their skills through
a programme of gradual progression and motivation.
“Learning to swim has become hugely popular with children, not
only because it is an essential skill but because of the enjoyment
factor as well,” explained Tracy Kenneally, Operations Manager at
Aura Youghal Leisure Centre.
“Each child who enrols on the academy will be assessed and

In this way, they will be learning alongside swimmers of the same
standard and progressing at their own pace,” added Tracy.
Enrolment costs €69 for the ten weeks and includes a free skills
assessment. Early booking is advised to avoid disappointment and
a 10% discount applies for Aura members.
Aura would also like to remind people of their upcoming free
‘Health and Fitness Night’ which is now taking place on Monday,
5th October.
The Open Evening will also give visitors the opportunity to
inspect all of the facilities at the centre, which include a 25 metre
pool, kiddies and leaner pools, state of the art gym, group fitness
studio and health suite.
“Aura’s fully qualified fitness instructors will be on hand to pro-
vide body fat testing and advise people on any nutritional or
dietary questions they may have. It promises to be a great night
where people can learn loads and more importantly see how we
can help them with their personal health and fitness goals,” added
Tracy. There will also be free half hour fitness classes taking place
from 6.30 p.m. to 8. 30 p.m. Classes on offer include everything Group pictured at the Swim Week
from ‘Boxercise’, ‘Indoor Cycling’, ‘Step Aerobics’ and ‘Total

Heat Your Home for Less

Although here in Ireland our climate is usually fairly mild, the
wind and dampness cause a high level of heat loss from our build-
ings. An uninsulated building is an enormous drain on heat, and
the heating bills paid on it are essentially money down the drain.
Insulation is something which any homeowner cannot afford to
ignore. Whether your motivations are saving the planet, or simply
saving your pocket, there are many important benefits of home
insulation including reduced heating bills and reduced carbon
emissions.
Two of the main types of home insulation are attic insulation and
bonded bead cavity wall insulation. The latter is a process where-
by the cavity space between a building's inner and outer walls are
filled with polystyrene beads, which are injected into the cavity via SPECIAL OFFER FOR OCTOBER

Drugs Awareness Week

By Michael Twomey
Drugs Awareness Week, which runs from the 5th to the 9th of
October, will see the Youghal Community Drugs Initiative, in con-
junction with Foróige, host two evenings to help public awareness
with all aspects of drug and alcohol mis-use. Development Worker
for the Southern Regional Drugs Task Force (SRDTF), Gordon
Kingsley explained. "There will be different activities within 8
towns in the region. These activities will involve information
evenings, workshops, launching of projects, and will involve fam-
ily members highlighting work they have done," he said. Part of
the awareness week will also see the local agency try to raise its
profile in a town that has a growing drug problem, while highlight-
ing the role the SRDTF can play in affecting positive change.
The Youghal project will hold information evenings on the specif-
ic work of the project in various locations throughout the town.
This will include information around substance misuse and the
developments within the project. There will be two evenings;
Monday 5th at the Holy Family church hall and Wednesday 7th
Oct. at Nagle House, South Abbey, Youghal. Both events start at
8pm. and are open to the general public. A piece of work devel-
oped by the family support group will be on display. This work
highlights how the person, family and wider community are
affected by drugs and alcohol. The piece will be on display at the
Southern Regional Drugs taskforce conference in conjunction
with Kerry-life education on the 8th of Oct in Killarney called the
'Getting A Grip Conference'.
Meanwhile, in Cobh, the Cobh community drugs Initiative and the
local management group will present the findings of an internal
evaluation of the project to the wider community on Tuesday 6th
0ct 2009 at 7.30pm. The YMCA building on main street Cobh will
host the event and it is open to the general public. A formal launch
of the project will happen on the evening with various speakers
having an input with information on other developments that are
currently in the pipeline. For further information in Youghal con-
tact Eric Trihy Youghal community Drugs worker on 086-3842183

A total of 65 cyclists of
various nationalities departed Navan on "the world's second tough-

Oh Dad I really didn’t want to let you go. My Dad was someone special
Someone to be admired. We know he’s looking out for us
In everything we do. And so we know that where he is , he’s watching in full God looked around his garden and saw an empty space
view, Looking out from Heavens window ; Leaning on Heavens gate.
Its a lonely home without you Dad, an empty bed an empty chair He then looked down upon Earth and saw your tired face
A Fathers love no longer there. The happy smile you always had He put his arms around you and lifted you to rest
When we walked in the door. All that is gone for evermore.
Many memories in my mind, sometimes I laugh, sometimes I cry, Gods garden must be beautiful He only takes the best
The times we shared, the laughs we had, the love and the kisses we got God knew that you were reasy and that your time had come
from you Dad. These are the things I miss the most.
A true friend I could turn to, when times were good or bad. So he closed your eyes and took you home

Paddy Savage, of Park Youghal. Grandad and great-grandad, Park, Youghal who
went to join Mam in heaven 29th Sept. 08.
An empty bed where once you lay, Our Lady of the Rosary pray for him
You had no choice, you could not stay. I know all my life I'll miss you, for you meant the world to me.
An empty chair - you'd quietly rest, I have such great memories of you, that others cannot see.
God had great taste, he took the best. They are mine to keep forever from which I'll never part,
An empty house, our heavy hearts, I'll hold them very close to me, locked deep within my heart.
They say time heals, we've yet to start. In heaven one day I'll find you dad, and all this hurt will go.
Father, Grandad and special friend, I'll put my arms around you and Mam and say I've missed you so.
Gentle and loving, 'til the bitter end. Love and miss you Dad
Your hearty laugh, your hands so strong,

Whose anniversary is on 29th September. Who went to heaven a year ago today.
On his soul sweet Jesus have mercy.
The 29th of September comes with sad regret the This day I will always remember, with heartache and regret,
day I lost my dad and my best friend. It's the day you were taken from us, how could I ever forget.
The winds of love blow softly, just enough for you to hear,
I miss the way you held my hand and tell me things would be alright. But I still love and miss you, and wish that you were here.
I miss your smile, your unconditional love, You made the world a better place, in your own special way,
My life has not been the same since you went away from us, And you're still loved so very much, and missed more every day.
But I know you are free from pain and with mam together again. Your leaving caused a lot of tears, and so much grieving too,
It was the hardest thing of all to say goodbye to you.
Light a special candle Lord, Hold my Dad real tight, You gave your love until one day, you heard the angels call,
Tell him I love and miss him every morning, noon and night. And above us now in heaven lives the best Dad of them all.
Loved and ever missed your loving daughter Monica & John. Fondly remembered and sadly missed

final, there was a rush of activity to get some practice in. The final
was held on Friday, September 11th and a large crowd had gath-
ered early on for this eagerly anticipated final. Club members
again pulled through and came up with trays of sandwiches, fruit Traditional Irish Cuisine
and biscuits for all to enjoy while watching the games.
First up on the night was Dwaine O’Shea against Kalin Kelly. Night at Padrone Restaurant
Dwaine played well and took an easy 2-0 win. Next up were num-
ber 1 seeds, Keith Gallogley and Dwaine Magner. After a cracker
of a match it was Dwaine that came though to win on a 2-1 score.
Third game of the night was the doubles match where Olan
McCarthy and Jody Cooper faced the Fermoy duo of David
Callanan and Shane McLoughlin. After a cracking game of dou-
bles, again it was Youghal that came through on a 2-0 scoreline.
The fourth match of the night saw Wayne Fitzgerald up against
Johnny O’Keeney. Unfortunately for Youghal it was Johnny that
came through on a 2-0 scoreline. Both clubs were tied on two
matches each and it was down to the last game of the night to
decide who would keep the silverware for the year.
So to decide the competition we had Barry Goggin up against
Chris Carey. Chris started very strong and took the first game
from Barry. But Barry was confident and was hungry to keep his Padrone Staff members Lisa, Mohommad Ali, Carmella, Anna, Chester, Rebecca
winning streak from last season going. Chris was not expecting and Cebulia
this and Barry took the second game comfortably. The gallery
were roaring as the entire competition was now going down to a
single game to 11. It all seemed to be going over Barry’s head as
he was as cool as a breeze and taking in all the excitement. One
could not say the same about Chris though and this was surprising
considering that this is a player that represented Ireland at junior
level and is a highly ranked player on the Irish circuit. No bother
for Barry though and he stormed through to take the tie-breaker
game on an 11-1 score giving a final tally of Youghal 3-2 Fermoy.
This was a great achievement for the Youghal club and this was
acknowledged by the Fermoy and Touraneena players. All the
clubs involved were very happy with how the competition played
out and we are already planning on next season.
Seeded Doubled Competition.
The first round of the seeded doubles competition kicked off on Brendan White, Mohommad Ali, Donnacha O’Cearuil and Chris Kenefick
Wednesday, September 16th. After a good night of Racquetball
the teams of Olan McCarthy & Keith Walsh, Jody Cooper & Tom
Buckley, Dwaine O’Shea & Killian McCarthy that took a round
one exit. The quarter finals were held the following week,
September 23rd. The teams that lost out in this round were Colin
Kennedy & Kevin Landers, Ian Ryan & John Kenefick, Steve
O’Shea & Brian Fitzgerald, MJ Curley & Brian Coakley. The four
quarter final games took almost four hours to complete and three
of the four went to tie-breaker games. Again a very enjoyable
night. This sets us up for the semi-finals on Wednesday,
September 30th. We will have Keith Gallogley & Siobhán
Downing up against Barry Goggin & Ian Ryan, the second semi-
final will see Jason Browne & John O’Callaghan up against Wayne
Fitzgerald & Simon Primm. Games will start at 7.30pm and I am
sure we are in for another entertaining night of Racquetball.

HEAT YOUR HOME

FOR LESS
Although here in Ireland our climate is usually fairly mild, the
wind and dampness cause a high level of heat loss from our
buildings. An uninsulated building is an enormous drain on
heat, and the heating bills paid on it are essentially money
down the drain.
Insulation is something which any homeowner cannot afford to
ignore. Whether your motivations are saving the planet, or sim-
ply saving your pocket, there are many important benefits of
home insulation including reduced heating bills and reduced
carbon emissions.

Two of the main types of home insulation are attic insulation

and bonded bead cavity wall insulation. The latter is a process
whereby the cavity space between a building's inner and outer
walls are filled with polystyrene beads, which are injected into
the cavity via small holes.

The Irish Government recently introduced a grant scheme

towards home insulation which can cover approximately 50%
of the cost of insulating your home (depending on size).
Announcing the scheme, the Minister for Communications,
Energy and Natural Resources Eamon Ryan explained that the
new measures could lead to heating bill reductions of about
€700 per annum for individual households. The application
process is straightforward and the scheme is open to all houses
built before 2006. See www.sei.ie for further details or contact
your local grant approved insulation provider, ECOWISE
INSULATION directly on 024 20714.
