Using the mode button
• A rubber button on the head unit is used to change beams and to turn on and off.
• Click the button to change beam settings: the power mode will move from
flashing, to low and through to higher powers.
• To turn off, hold button down for 1 second
• To turn on, a brief click.

Using the mode skip function.

• NiteFlux lights offer a wide range of power settings but scrolling through them
all while riding along can be tedious and even confusing at times. You can use a
simple button hold to delete power settings that you won't use, keeping only your
favorites active. Most riders will opt for something low, and something high
with actual power depending on the riding conditions, desired runtimes and of
course personal preferences.
• Skipping a power setting is very easy. Just click the mode button until you get to
the power that you want to remove. Then hold the button down and the light will
turn off. Keep holding the button down. After 5 seconds continuous hold, the
light will come back on and the unwanted power setting will be gone. The light
will come back in the power that is next on the list.
• NB: while it is very easy to skip a single power setting, skipping several and
keeping track of the power settings that remain is more difficult. It is
recommended that you sit in a quiet location so that you can concentrate. Write
out a list with all 6 power settings on. Cross off the power settings as you
deactivate them.
• If you skip five of the modes, leaving just one remaining, then the mode button
behaves as simple click-on, click-off and there is no need for one-second hold to
turn off. This configuration makes a great hand torch.
• If you use the 5-second hold to skip the last remaining power setting, the whole
list will return and you can start over again.

Low battery warnings
Constant power technology means constant brightness throughout the entire ride.
With the many other-brand lighting systems on the market the intensity of light
output significantly drops-off with the natural decrease in voltage in the battery as it
progresses through its discharge cycle. Because you have constant lighting you
need a low battery warning otherwise you would not realize that you where running
out of battery power.

NiteFlux have incorporated a low battery warning to occur near the end of the
battery discharge cycle. This low warning signal is a brief blink through the
headlight’s output, the blink will increase in frequency as the end of the battery
cycle approaches.
NOTE: once the blink is happening every few seconds, it is time to dismount
the bicycle and recharge the battery.

If the light is in flash mode, the blinking pattern changes from 4 quick flashes to
one flash near the end of battery discharge.

If the battery is completely discharged, it will shut down and will not power the
light again until connected to a charger. The battery should be put back on charge
as soon as reasonably possible after discharge.

NOTE: as the battery gets older, individual cells may shut down before low
battery warnings commence. Do not use these warnings as the only
mechanism for safety when riding in dark areas.

Connecting the VisionStick as a hand torch
• To use the headlight as a flashlight all you have to do is screw the head unit to the
alloy stick battery housing.
• Note: Be careful when transporting the lighting system as a flashlight as you
could accidentally turn it on without realising if not stored properly.
• Note: it is normal for the head unit to heat up if used as a hand torch (not rushing
through air on a bicycle). Internal temperature control will prevent the unit from
overheating.

Fitting the Head Unit:

1. Firmly hold the head unit in your left hand
and the battery with your right.
2. Guide the 3 x cell Li-Ion battery into the
back of the alloy head unit.
3. Make sure the battery is correctly centered
and level with the head unit.
4. Push the battery gently forward with a
clockwise turning battery away from you
until you feel the battery thread starts take-
up.
5. Twist firmly and at a quarter of a turn the
battery will be fully engaged.

Removing the Head unit: (this is the reverse of the fitting process)
1. Firmly hold the head unit in your left hand and turn the battery towards you with
your right hand.
2. It will take firm pressure to break the seal of rubber o–ring friction seal that is
situated at the top of the battery.
3. One quarter turn will remove the battery from the head unit.

Installing the head unit on a bike
1. Mount Head Unit to Handlebar
Bracket

• Position alloy head unit so that

switch is on top and centered.
(Diagram 1)
• Place alloy head unit into
handlebar cradle.
• Push in until it is seated inside
the handlebar cradle housing.
(Diagram 2)
• Push the alloy head unit gently
forward while turning the
rotating fixing dial at the rear of
the bracket in a clockwise
direction until you feel the
thread start take-up.
• Twist the fixing dial firmly and
after a quarter turn the dial will
be fully engaged. (Diagram 3)

2. Head Unit Mounting Locations

The head unit can be mounted either on top of or underneath the handlebar,
however alternative locations may also be suitable. Make sure the chosen mounting
location of the headlight will not interfere with the steering of the bicycle or the
movement of the cables on the bicycle.

NiteFlux VisionStick Enduro Models (2010) Page 7 of 16

3. Mounting headlight to a bicycle
The handlebar bracket is a hinged “c-type” bracket
with a thumbnut-adjusting bolt located on the
central pivoting pin. When the head unit is
positioned in preferred location:
1) Swing the thumbnut down over the slotted raised
dimple in lower “c-type” bracket.
2) Screw the thumbnut clockwise until it pulls up
over the raised dimple.
3) Dial in desired tension – the head unit should not
rotate easily once set.
4) Pull over rubber holding cap and cap the excess
bolt thread. (See diagrams A–D)

• This style of handlebar bracket allows for quick

attachment to a variety of handlebar diameters,
allowing for many different mounting locations.
• The handlebar bracket will adjust from 21mm to
32mm diameter when used in combination with
the rubber sizing pads provided. (This wide range
of adjustment allows for oversize handlebars)
• The handlebar bracket also has a swivel feature
allowing you to direct the headlight in variety of
positions. Tension of the swivel can be adjusted
via the Phillips head screw located underneath the
handlebar mount. Turn screw clockwise to tighten.
Check this part from time to time and keep firm
(See diagram E).
• If you have very large bars, you may end up
fitting only one of the 4 rubber pads. Make sure
that you have your remaining one pad covering
the swivel tension screw. This will prevent the
screw accidentally scratching your handlebar.

Helmet mounting
The Helmet Mount Bracket is designed to fit any bicycle helmet and can usually be
adapted to other helmets for multi-sport functions.
Important: The VisionStick Battery must be carried on the rider when using the
helmet mount, the battery can be stored in a hydration pack, cycle jersey pocket or
a backpack. The battery fits easily into most styles of packs. The NiteFlux range of
cycling jerseys has a pocket specially for a 3-cell VisionStick battery.

1. Mount Head Unit to Helmet Mount Bracket

The head unit mounts into the bracket as per the handlebar bracket
2. Mount Headlight Assembly to Helmet
Thread the Velcro strap on the bracket through helmet vents. Additional hook and
loop adhesive Velcro pads can be used in conjunction with Velcro strap for extra
secure attachment.

WARNINGS FOR USE OF HELMET MOUNTED HEADLIGHTS

• When using OFF-ROAD, do not look directly in the eyes of other riders or car
drivers due to risk of dazzling.
• Helmet mounted headlights are not intended for ON-ROAD use. The risk of
dazzling car drivers is increased and dangerous. Not having a handlebar
mounted light reduces your visibility to on-coming traffic, when you are not
looking straight ahead. In many states, it is illegal to ride without a light fixed to
the front of the bicycle

Mounting battery on a bike
Determine Mount Location
The double bracket mounts to the frame via the two
threaded bolt hole points (bosses) that are commonly
included on bicycle frames for drink bottle cage mounting:
(See diagram F)
1. Down tube (descends from the head tube to the bottom
bracket). On non-traditional frames eg dual suspension
mountain bikes, the bolting locations may be underneath
the down tube.
2. Seat tube (descends from the seat to the bottom bracket).
Mount Bracket to Frame
1. Apply thin layer of grease to bolt threads.
2. Attach bracket with bolts.
3. Using an Allen Key, screw in clockwise – do not over-
tighten.
(See diagram G)
The double bracket is positioned with the straps facing up
and can be fitted underneath bottle cages. Pumps of a
similar diameter to the battery can be carried on the
opposite side when not being used for the optional extra
battery.
Insert Battery
1. Battery snaps into bracket easily.
2. Pull the rubber strap over the battery to the first rung in
the ladder, hooking it over the anchor point on the double
bracket. Check the battery for secure fit. (See diagrams H,
I)
3. Make sure the battery is not obstructing any moving part
of the bike.

Attaching the Expanding Power Lead
1. The expanding power lead has a plug end and a socket
end. Fit the plug end to battery. (See diagram J – previous
page)
2. Wrap the expanding lead carefully around the frame
without obstructing the movement of the cables.
3. Line up the socket end with the rear of the handlebar
bracket. (See diagrams K, L)
4. Press the socket all the way in until it mounts flush with
rear of the bracket. (See diagram M)
5. Confirm the VisionStick battery is securely mounted in
the bracket and is not obstructing any part of the bicycle.
Make sure the expanding lead is not affecting steering of the
bike and that it can not be entangled in any part of the
moving bike.

Universal Charger
The charger accepts voltage input from 100 volt to
240 volt.
If you have the right plug attachments it should work
in most countries around the world. Slide-on plug
adapters are available for Australia, UK, and Europe.
For USA, the plugs fold out and no adapter is
required. Adapters can be bought direct from the NiteFlux online store.

NB: because charge control is built into every NiteFlux Li-Ion battery, you can use
the same charger/power supply to charge all batteries in the NiteFlux range. DO
NOT use this charger on any other batteries other than NiteFlux Li-Ion batteries
with integrated charge control.

Battery charging
• NiteFlux Li-Ion batteries have a battery management module built in that
manages a range of charging functions and fail-safes to optimize battery
performance and safety. This module accepts power from the included NiteFlux
charger and this power supply can be used to charge all batteries in the NiteFlux
range.
• Your battery is shipped to you from the factory in a partially charged condition.
For the best performance, charge your battery overnight before first use. After
this, typical charge time from empty is 4hrs.
• There is no need to discharge batteries prior to charge. Charge can be applied at
any time and in general it is best to keep fully charged.
• Connect your battery to the supplied NiteFlux Charger and switch on the power
point. NB: with a battery connected, the green light on the power supply may
light up, even if the power is not on at the wall. Always be sure to check that the
charger is switched on at the wall.
• The clear end of the NiteFlux battery will turn orange during charge and green
when complete.
• The battery can be left on charger in green state indefinitely and the standby
power consumption of the charger is very low, much less than a typical TV or
radio left on standby.
• A red light at the end of the VisionStick represents a fault. Disconnect the
power supply, wait for the red light to go out. Reconnect the charger and try
again. If fault persists, contact NiteFlux for assistance.
• The battery may shut down if heavily discharged. In this case it will not power
the light. Recharge before next use.

Warning: Only use the supplied charger. This power supply is compatible with
NiteFlux 1 cell, 3-cell and 4-cell Li-Ion batteries.

Battery care
• Charge after use.
• Charge before storage. Recharge again every 6 months.
• Keep in a cool dry place. Do not expose to temperatures over 60°C (140°F) for
example on fireplace or inside hot car.

Faster charging using “piggy back” technique
All the NiteFlux Li-Ion batteries mentioned below can be charged faster by
combining the output of two chargers (#00135) through the use of a y-cord to
connect to one battery. The battery will recharge in half the time; 2hours instead of
the standard 4hour recharge time.
Please Note: you will need to purchase a second 18volt NiteFlux charger and a
NiteFlux y-cord from the NiteFlux website.

General care of your lighting system
• Keep all connections free of dirt and moisture, a tiny amount of Vaseline®
applied to the male plugs can help keep connections free of corrosion. Wipe
plugs clean before applying thin layer of Vaseline®.
• A small smear of Vaseline on the threads can greatly assist the connection of the
battery or mounting rings to the threaded section at rear of the head unit.
• The Headlight, battery and extension cords should only be wiped down with a
damp cloth when needed, be careful around the battery terminal; leaving the plug
in is advisable.
• The light comes with three major seals at the front and one at the rear. The head
unit is highly water resistant provided everything is tight and in place.
Periodically checking the tightness of the bezel will ensure a good seal is
maintained.
• The light is suitable for use in all weather conditions, including heavy rain. It is
not intended for underwater use.
• If water gets inside the unit, undo the front bezel and push the internal module
out from the rear. Use a hairdryer to dry out as well as possible. Take care
during reassembly; when replacing the front bezel there are three seals that
should all be seated properly. Ask NiteFlux for assistance if necessary.

General safety precautions

• Always wear a helmet and bright reflective clothes when riding at night.
• Before you begin your night time activities, make sure your batteries are fully
charged and your light system is in good working order.
• Bicycle lights are nit intended to replace the reflectors supplied with your bicycle.
• The law requires use of approved reflectors in conjunction with a lighting system.
This may vary from country to country, check with your local road authority.
• No amount of lighting will protect you from a motorist who may not be alert or
not concentrating.
• NiteFlux recommends reducing your reliance on any one product for your total
safety. Malfunctions may happen to any product, so a second lighting device is
advisable.
