EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Vietnam garment industry has been booming for the past few years, many favorable
conditions have enabled garment manufacturers to grow rapidly. However it also leads
to the fact that many new comers are entering the industry and gradually making the
competition become so stiff. In order to outperform its competitors, Regent Garment
Factory has selected IT deployment as one of its competitive strategies so managing
and using IT system effectively have become an increasingly important requirement.
Among IT systems that have been deployed at Regent, Garment Professional (G.PRO)
is considered the most important one. G.PRO is a powerful management tool to help
managers at all levels to track progress, make decision and intervene when necessary.
Information and data need to be collected and analyzed to provide feedback at any
points of time of production floor process. It also helps staff and management to track
progress of activities against targets, plans and schedules, and last but not least it helps
to increase transparency and accountability.

The thesis is aimed at improving the current G.PRO system of Regent by first
performing an in-depth assessment of its current situation then proposes Regent an
upgrade plan for their consideration. The foundation of the thesis is based on in-depth
interviews with users at all levels, on study of documents available and through
observation of the researcher. The Thesis consists of five parts. The introduction part
presents readers with the research objectives, research questions, methodology, outputs,
scope and limitation. The second part provides readers with conceptual background of
the terms which are used in the study. The third part provides an insight of G.PRO
system, its opportunities and challenges in the time to come. The fourth part proposes a
detail action plan and recommendations for improvement. The last part is the thesis
conclusion.
