Dear Friends,
This year we are celebrating our third anniversary at Archivia. Since we opened our doors on November 1, 2007, we’ve been count-
ing our blessings: devoted clients and friends, and the privilege of being surrounded by beautiful books in our lovely shop. To this
we can add the embarrassment of riches in the season’s new books, which gives everyone hope and optimism for the future as well
as for illustrated book publishing and the elegant shops in which to buy them.
This year our catalogue is a bit different. We were motivated by the most interesting list of new books we’ve seen in a long time.
Our goal with this catalogue is to bring you into the shop through the wonderful photographs by Sam Fryer, our newest Archivian.
Sam’s very talented eye has captured the ambience, the details, the elements of the physical space, and presents our selection
much as you would see them arrayed on our main table, without descriptive text to allow for more books. It reflects the importance,
and the power of books and the shops that sell them.
Call or email us – we’ll describe the books in detail, tell you the specifications, explain why we love them. We don’t twitter, blog or
facebook, but rather prefer if you come or call. Nothing can replace the tactile, aural, and physical experience of being in a book-
shop. Here you can see and feel the new bindings, the mylar wraps, the tinted and deckled edges, silk ribbon place holders, the fire
of a red linen binding.
Come in and let us recommend our considered choices. Revel in our growing collection of vintage and foreign titles. No digital
experience can replicate the wonder and intellectual inspiration of browsing while listening to Bach fugues or Brazilian jazz, Hotel
Costes or Buddha Bar, solo piano or choral cantatas, all to remind that bookstores are places of culture, tastemakers and beacons
for a deeper philosophical approach to living. Today’s technology has its advantages but also its tyrannical side. With too much of it
bookstores will simply cease to exist, depriving you of the simple joy and pleasure of buying your books from a bookstore.

Heart by Alex Trokel

Here at Archivia we’re doing everything in our power to make that experience worth it.
One final note .. our Julie is leaving us for tango and yoga, Argentina and Paris. She’s been with us from that very first
day in November 2007. We are bereft at the thought of losing her but wish her every success in her new passions. Come
see us soon, and in the meanwhile, a very happy and healthy new year to all,
Cynthia + Will

L’OEUVRE INTEGRAL 1962-2002

YVES SAINT LAURENT Haute Couture
Fondation Pierre Berge – Yves Saint Laurent
A Limited, Numbered Series of 500 Boxed Sets, $ 3000

This unique ensemble presents forty years of

Saint Laurent’s design: all 81 couture collections
presented in 1,283 production drawings. From the
Mondrian dress of 1965 to the “Forties” collections
that caused a scandal in 1971, from the 1976
“Russian” collection to the homage to Vincent van
Gogh in 1988, each design is presented on large
format loose sheets, housed in four brown linen
clamshell cases, documenting the sketches and
fabric samples. Each production drawing includes
the name of the couture atelier that produced the
piece, the name of the model who wore it, and the garment’s runway order. The entire wardrobe is arranged
from day wear to evening wear, including the pea jacket, the safari jacket, the tuxedo and the wedding
dress. The production drawings are accompanied by a slipcased 96-page bilingual volume with the viewing
guide, the show programs, a preface by Pierre Berge and photographs of Yves Saint Laurent in his studio.
