Juvenile Arrests for Drug Abuse Offenses 2

Problem Identification: Juvenile Arrests for Drug Abuse and Offenses (1980-2008)

Problem Description: This particular census assessment was based off of juveniles (a person who is
under age, usually below 18) who were arrested for drug abuse. It was reported that juveniles documented
for this particular survey experimented with drugs such as:

 Heroine/Cocaine
 Marijuana
 Synthetic narcotics
 Dangerous nonnarcotic drugs

The statistics in this survey are said to be represented for persons who not only experiment with illegal
drugs but in some cases or another were arrested for distribution and possession. Thus said persons
documented in this study could have been represented multiple times throughout the recorded time frame.

We find in research today that African Americans are the largest populated race held in incarceration
today. One tribute to that is the distribution of narcotics and sales. Law enforcement officers take pride in
the apprehension of illegal felons and those entering into the penal system. African Americans need to be
informed/ educated on the misappropriation of the illegal activities that seem to keep reoccurring in the
black communities. We as a people need to be reformed into believing there is another way to make a
living.

Findings: The data table found was based on the Unites States Census Bureau dating for 1980 to 2008.

A. Magnitude: Since 1980 the rate of narcotic distributions and arrest have increased to twice as
many arrest every year between the years of 1980 until 2000 where from there on the rate of
arrest flat line to a steady low increase of growth from 2000 and beyond stopping at 2008.
B. Scope: the statistic reports shown in the data table are derived from the United States Census
Bureau. An estimated amount of 169,439,000 reports shown for the years of 1980-2008. Every
year the amount of arrest grow. In specific categories of certain drugs have become more popular
than others and it shows through the increase of distribution arrest as well as the arrest for
possession of illegal substances.
C. Changes: The distribution and possession of illegal drugs have increased over time therefore the
amount of arrest has also increased. As stated before certain illegal substances has become a
higher commodity than others while in 1980 possession of marijuana reported arrest totaled a
64,456. While twenty years later the arrest rate sky rockets to almost twice the amount as before,
scaling to 93,042 arrests in 2008.
D. Disparities: There were no differences in terms of race or sex that would dictate the ratings of
this material. This survey is based off of recordings for juveniles who were arrested for drug
abuse offenses.
