Traces of Graces
In case you have not met this fine fellow of our parish community, please meet Ryan Holke. His is an amazing story
of growth in faith and a tremendous heart for the poor. Ryan is following a call from Christ and his Church to minis-
ter in a culture and language which is not native to him. This takes tremendous courage and a step out in great faith.
Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers !
Together in Christ;
Fr. Steve

My name is Ryan Holke and I have been a member of Saint Edward’s Parish since I was in the fifth
Grade, however recently I have been living in Brazil as a Missionary studying to be a Priest! After
graduating High school I decided to take a year off to do volunteer work before going on to Col-
lege. I ended up in Brazil with a group called the Father Kolbe Missionaries of the Immaculata, men
consecrated to God through the vows of poverty, chastity and obedience. In the course of my
time with them, through prayer and seeing their enthusiastic example, I realized that God was calling me to serve
Him and His people in this way. Our mission is simple – Win all hearts for Christ through the intercession of the
Immaculata our Blessed Mother, using, like our inspirer St. Maximilian Kolbe, all means licit, and in a special way, the
mass media. In a nutshell, we try to show God’s great love and mercy to the world by the total offering of ourselves
to Mary in order to, like her, say a complete “yes” to God and allow Him to work in us and through us, allow Him to
come into the world once more. I am studying now to be a “Kolbean” priest and have just professed the vows of
poverty, chastity and obedience on August 14, 2010. Our formation process is 10 years long, so I
am now halfway through. I thank God everyday for my vocation and I ask that all of you please
pray for me that I may be generous and perseverant in my response to God’s calling. I never for-
get my hometown and all of you are in my prayers. I hope that someday I may come back and
celebrate the sacred Mysteries with you all as a Priest.
