INTRODUCTION

Background of the Study

Nurses save and improve lives as front line members of the health care delivery team. They
independently assess and monitor patients, and taking a holistic approach, determine what patients need
to attain and preserve their health. Nurses then provide care and, if needed, alert other health care
professionals to assist. For instance, emergency department nurses triage all incoming patients, deciding
which are the sickest and in what order they require the attention of other health care professionals. Thus,
nurses coordinate care delivery by physicians, nurse practitioners, social workers, physical therapists and
others. Nurses assess whether care is successful. If not, they create a different plan of action.

DISCUSSION

Unemployed new graduate registered nurses (RN's) are increasing in number, and their
joblessness is a contradiction to widely publicized nursing shortage.

Most RN in the Philippines are unemployed because most of the hospitals here stopped hiring
nurses. Why? because there no vacancies anymore in the hospitals. Some of RN are now working in call
centers and some work in the hospitals as a volunteer. This means that they don't get salary or even
allowances from the hospitals where they give care to their patients .It is sad to see this situation.

Nursing, which everyone thought that is in demand, has an overflowing supply nowadays. Even
doctors, are taking up nursing. People believe that this course will be their stepping stone in order to fly
abroad, have a stable job that will lead to better life. But, it is not easy to go abroad. There¶s so many
process that you need to do before you can go there and most of the time you must have at least 2-3
years experience in the hospitals. Some may be lucky to have a work in the hospitals but not all have this
chance.

When Nursing Schools Recruit More Students There will be another increase of unemployed
Nurses in the future. But still you will see that there¶s so many nursing student here in the
Philippines. They didn¶t think how difficult it is to look for a nursing career after graduation and its not easy
to go abroad even if they already passed the local board.
