Are you Thirsty?

Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink (Jn 7:37).

What must we thirst for? Matthew 5:6, “Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after
righteousness: for they shall be filled.” Those who thirst after righteousness must come unto
Jesus to drink so that they may be filled.

What do we drink? The Lord tells us that we must ask Him for living water (Jn 4:10). Jesus is
referring to the Holy Ghost. John 7:38-39, “He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said,
out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they
that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus
was not yet glorified.)” John the Baptist had said: Mark 1:8, “I indeed have baptized you with
water: but he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost.” After Jesus was crucified (was
glorified), He ascended to the Father. Acts 2:33, “Therefore being by the right hand of God
exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth
this, which ye now see and hear.”

Why do we need the Holy Ghost? He leadeth in the paths of righteousness (Ps 23:3). Romans
8:14, “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.” John 16:8, “And
when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment.”
Romans 8:4-5, “That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after
the flesh, but after the Spirit. For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh;
but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.” To mind the things of the Spirit is to
walk in righteousness.

How does the Holy Ghost lead us in righteousness? John 14:26, “But the Comforter, which is
the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and
bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.” The Holy Ghost
leads and teaches us to walk in God’s way which is righteousness. The Spirit testifies of Jesus
who is the way, the truth and the life (Jn 14:6, 15:26, 1 Jn 5:16). 1 Corinthians 2:10, “But
God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep
things of God.” The Spirit leads us to die to the flesh and live as unto God. Romans 8:13, “For
if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the
body, ye shall live (also Rm 8:11, 1 Pt 3:18).” For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and
righteousness and truth (Eph 5:9).

The Holy Ghost is God’s grace working His purposes in you! The Holy Spirit conforms you
to the image of Christ (Rm 8:29). 2 Corinthians 3:18, “But we all, with open face beholding as
in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as
by the Spirit of the Lord.”

Jesus was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit (1 Tim 3:16). Christ’s followers are also
justified in the Spirit: 1 Corinthians 6:11 And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but
ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our
God. Therefore: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous (1 Jn 3:7).

Jesus says: “I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely (Rev
21:6). Revelation 22:17, “And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth
say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life
freely.”
