1 Introduction
This document describes how to connect an iPhone, iPad and iPod touch to the RMIT secure
wireless network (RMIT-WPA).
Note: iPhones should use the operating system version iOS (Operating System) 4 or later.
For further information about the network, please visit the RMIT wireless web page at:
www.rmit.edu.au/its/wireless
2 Instructions for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch
2.1 Preparation
Before beginning your wireless configuration, please ensure your network (NDS) account is
active - this is your staff ʻeʼ number or your student ʻsʼ number. You will also need a valid
password.
Step 1.Tap the Settings icon from the Home screen of your device.
Step 4. Press the centre Home button to return to the Home screen.
Note: Browsing the Internet at this stage will automatically display the RMIT Wireless
website.
Tap the “RMIT-WPA wireless profile for iPhone…. “ text in the middle of the setup guide
page.
Step 5. Please enter your staff or student number (RMIT ID) and then tap the Next button.
Step 6. Please enter your RMIT password and then tap the Next button.
Step 1. Tap the Settings icon from the Home screen of your device.
Step 2. Tap Manual from the bottom HTTP Proxy options (Swipe/scroll down to view this).
As part of RMIT Universityʼs new password standard, your network (NDS) password is
configured to expire after 90 days.
Please note that any changes to your password will not be reflected in mobile devices
connected to the RMIT University wireless network. As a result, you will need to re-instate
your profile each time your password changes i.e. every 90 days. The reason for this is
because your account and password were embedded into the device as part of your original
set up.
To do this, you will need to remove the current RMIT profile, and re-connect to the RMIT
wireless network (as you did when you connected to the RMIT wireless network for the first
time).
If you do not manually update your device, you will be unable to connect to the RMIT
network.
Step 1. Tap the Settings button on your Home screen
4 Troubleshooting
The iPhone and iPad come standard with accessibility features to assist people with a
disability or long-term medical condition. Please refer to the following websites:
If I have an old iPhone or iPod, can I still connect to the RMIT wireless network?
Although RMIT does support iOS version 3.2 and above, it is strongly recommend you
upgrade your OS to the current version. Go to : iTunes at: www.apple.com/au/itunes to
download the latest version.
To check which version you have on your device, go to the Home screen, and tap the
Settings icon. Then tap General and then About to see the software version. The number
shown next to Version is the iOS version.
Current iOS version can be found on the Apple website at: www.apple.com/au/ios
From the Home screen, tap Settings, then Wi-Fi and make sure you are connected to the
secure RMIT-WPA. Your device may be set to remember other networks that it has
connected to in the past.
If this is the case, you may have inadvertently connected back to the open RMIT wireless
network. Simply select the secure RMIT-WPA network and your access will be restored.
