“Are You Building Houses for God” (Pt.

2)
(House- Greek word Oikia means, dwelling, residence)
- God uses the example of the house because the house has a door, and he wants to be the only
one you let in your House, he puts windows in, so he can see into your innermost parts to make
sure there are no cracks in your foundation and he puts a roof on top, signifying that he is the
head of your house or temple and nothing enters your house without his permission or you letting
something in.

Our objective as believers is to build people up. Jesus spent a lifetime building people. He spent
time with them, felt what they felt, sat where they sat, and saw the pains of life that many people
had to deal with and was able to bring forth solutions for their issues. Not only that, but he also
called others unto himself, taught, trained and sent them forth so they would know how to build
houses for the kingdom.

Luke 6: 12-16

And it came to pass in those days, that he went out into a mountain to

pray, and continued all night in prayer to God.

-Now this is some prayer. Jesus prayed all night, which shows that he was committed and
though he knew that those he would choose would have their faults and failures, he knew
that in the long run, when he got done building them, nothing would be able to stop them
from being houses that would shine bright and carry the Kingdom of God where ever they
went and bring forth the power of God to whoever encountered them. (Town, city, state)

And when it was day, he called unto him his disciples: and of them he chose twelve, whom
also he named apostles;

-God had not only chosen those that would carry the message of the gospel, but he also
called them by name. It’s a privilege to be called and chosen by God. God could have let
you perish, but he saw fit to save you, b/c he saw something in you significant that would
benefit the kingdom. (Ex. CCU-Meeting Greg)

Simon, (whom he also named Peter,) and Andrew his brother, James and John, Philip and
Bartholomew,

Matthew and Thomas, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon called Zelotes,

And Judas the brother of James, and Judas Iscariot, which also was the traitor.

-After he had called them, he didn’t just let them just sit back, but he taught them how to
build houses, how to build people and to show people that God is real and that he sees you
and is come to heal, deliver and set people free! That he didn’t just die on Calvary for
nothing, but so that ‘you would have life and life more abundantly’ (Jn. 10:10) Even having
to sometimes separate you from people not willing to go where God wants to take you. (Ex.
Friend Dream at work)

Luke 9:1-6
1
Then he called his twelve disciples together, and gave them power and authority over all devils,
and to cure diseases.
2
And he sent them to preach the kingdom of God, and to heal the sick.
3
And he said unto them, Take nothing for your journey, neither staves, nor scrip, neither bread,
neither money; neither have two coats apiece.

-He gave them power to heal and deliver people; he gave them authority over demons and
devils. Also he told them don’t take nothing with, Why? Because God had already
provided everything they would need. He was showing them, ‘it’s not by might nor by
force, but by my Spirit saith the Lord” (Zech. 4:6) When we go out to witness, Yes it’s
important to have the Word of God on us, but it’s also important to have God’s Word in
us.

-One day we might not have a bible, or have the right to carry a bible, but we have to be at
a place in God, to where we can build houses for God, by the Word shut up in our bones.
Jeremiah said “his word is in my heart like a fire, a fire shut up in my bones.
I am weary of holding it in; indeed, I cannot.” (Jer. 20:9. NIV)

-God, as you grow will teach you, as he did his disciples, how to build houses, even those
who look like they are on their last leg and won’t make it. God can use you, despite where
you came from, what you did, and what you used to be about to deliver somebody. It also
shows people, that if God can build your house, he can build there’s too.

And whatsoever house ye enter into, there abide, and thence depart.

And whosoever will not receive you, when ye go out of that city, shake off the very dust from
your feet for a testimony against them.
6
And they departed, and went through the towns, preaching the gospel, and healing every where.

-As we go to build houses, not everyone will receive the Gospel, but that doesn’t mean we
beat them over the head with it. We allow God to use us, and if they don’t receive it, or
don’t want it, we leave them at peace and just pray for them and move on. Shake the dust
off your feet, move on to the next soul and build some other person, out there who is
homeless in the Spirit, without a place to call home, in Jesus.
-Jesus was great at teaching people the significance of loving others and how to build other
people up. Here, Jesus shows us not only an important story, but how to build houses, how
to build people back up.

Luke 10:25-37
25
And, behold, a certain lawyer stood up, and tempted him, saying, Master, what shall I do to
inherit eternal life?
26
He said unto him, What is written in the law? how readest thou?
27
And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy
soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself.
28
And he said unto him, Thou hast answered right: this do, and thou shalt live.
29
But he, willing to justify himself, said unto Jesus, And who is my neighbour?
30
And Jesus answering said, A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell
among thieves, which stripped him of his raiment, and wounded him, and departed, leaving him
half dead.
31
And by chance there came down a certain priest that way: and when he saw him, he passed by
on the other side.

-Now a priest was suppose to be the ones in charge of the Law, ones who were suppose to
have compassion and mercy on the sick and afflicted, but they dropped the ball. Just like
some religious people have done in the lives of people we know. They have got beaten
down by life and even had people who were their family, friends, who love God turn their
back on them and now they are at a dead place, not wanting somebody religious to trust in
because they have been hurt too many times.

-They are those run-down houses on the corner with a foreclosure sign on them. In the
natural it’s a foreclosure sign, but in the Spirit, its Satan putting a sign on their house, on
that person, letting all those people around see and know, that this person has been
abandoned and left for dead, and now they are mine and I’m going to tear them down, to
where they end up being where I am, in a place of eternal despair. But the Devil is a lie,
God never leaves us to die.

And likewise a Levite, when he was at the place, came and looked on him, and passed by on
the other side.

-Another person saw him in despair and passed him by.

33
But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he had
compassion on him,
34
And went to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own
beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him.
35
And on the morrow when he departed, he took out two pence, and gave them to the host, and
said unto him, Take care of him; and whatsoever thou spendest more, when I come again, I will
repay thee.

-Out of all the people, a good Samaritan stopped by to see about him and look at the text.
It said he ‘came where he was.” That means he met him where he was. Jesus Christ
brought the Kingdom of Heaven to earth, and parked its power, its peace, and its joy right
next door to some wretches like us.

-We were those run-down houses with for sale signs on them, that turned into foreclosure
signs, houses that were on track to be bull-dozed and torn to pieces, never to see life again;
and a lot of our friends and family who knew us, got a nice cushioned seat and some
popcorn and watched a few clips of the movie that pertained to our life and left, before the
movie of our life was up, b/c they wrote us off, said me, & you were a suicide victim, you
are nothing but I’m glad, that Jesus didn’t let the movie of our life end the way people
think, and one day, that Property-owner named Jesus came down our street, and came
where we was;

-and before the Devil could tear us down, Jesus said stop, I’m going to buy this house, this
person, even though they don’t look like much now, they have some broken windows, and
some filthy places, but when I get done with them, people are going to flock to them, to see
who their owner is.

- Or if you were the popular person, who thought you had it all-together, that you were
that perfect house with 3 bedrooms and a Jacuzzi in the back yard, that couldn’t wait to be
picked, yet on the inside you were a mess, unstable, controlling, like Hollywood stars. Yet,
while you thought you had it altogether, there were some groups, some organizations, some
jobs, some people sent by the enemy, to pick you, to make a bid on you, to pull you in with
them, because they had plans for you, the enemy had plans to kill you and to keep you as
far as possible from your destiny.

-Yet when that same property owner named Jesus got in the crowd, all the devil could do
was drop his head, because he knew Jesus Christ was the only one who could make an offer
or bid on your life, your house, on your soul that nobody could match and that purchase
was with blood. The bible says:

1 Peter 1:18-19 “For you know that God paid a ransom to save you from the empty life you
inherited from your ancestors. And the ransom he paid was not mere gold or silver. 19 It was the
precious blood of Christ, the sinless, spotless Lamb of God.” (NLT) Here, the Samaritan built
the man back up, and he restored him.

Which now of these three, thinkest thou, was neighbour unto him that fell among the thieves?
37
And he said, He that shewed mercy on him. Then said Jesus unto him, Go, and do thou
likewise.

-Jesus said ‘do likewise.’ Build up your brothers and sisters. Just as God has re-modeled
your house and made you over again, do the same for others. Even those people, whose
House has been bull-dozed, ran over, abused by life, pain after pain, struggle, raped,
molestation, beaten and left for dead. People who say ‘it’s a doggy-dog World and the only
person I can trust is me.” People who put up walls, people off in the corner, that people
pass by, and don’t really pay too much attention to, people who feel they have no
significance. People who are scattered pieces of a puzzle.

-Shut up and Closed up in a Dark, cold box, waiting for someone to take the lid off and put
the broken pieces of their life back together.

-Broken families, relationships, and most of all.

-Restore their relationship with God. If they didn’t have a relationship, help them build
one; where they have that child-like heart to believe in God and trust in God! Are You
Building Houses For God?

-Jesus said to Peter Luke 22:31-32:

“31And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift
you as wheat:
32
But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy
brethren.”

-The Devil wanted to sift each of us as wheat, but God said not so, because he chose us and
called us by name. And after we have been converted it’s our job to go and get our
brothers and sisters the Devil desires to sift as wheat. (Ex: My testimony)

John 17:9, 17-21

I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which thou hast given me; for they are
thine.
 17
Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.
18
As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world.
19
And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth.
20
Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;
21
That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in
us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.

-Jesus prayed for his Disciples that they would be sanctified through the Truth and not
only did he pray for them, but he prayed for them that would believe on Jesus through
their Word, through their teaching. That is us, who have believed this Gospel, and now we
have to pray for people and take this Word to dying people, and build their house. Look at
the last verse, he prayed that we would be ONE!

-‘A House divided against itself can’t stand’. (Matt. 12:25) We as the body can’t be
divided, if God’s Word said it, it’s for us to believe it and for those who don’t have the
understanding, it’s for us to go and by God’s wisdom, expound and pray God opens their
understanding; not tear them down and send them to hell. Ex: Apollos- He was a man who
someone planted a Word in, but the text said:

- Acts 18:25 “This man was instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in the spirit, he
spake and taught diligently the things of the Lord, knowing only the baptism of John.”

-Someone planted the Word, but no one yet was there to water it. It wasn’t that he didn’t
love Jesus, he didn’t have full understanding like the Apostles, yet God always sends
someone to water the Word in you, and expound. The bible says Acts 18:26 “26And he
began to speak boldly in the synagogue: whom when Aquila and Priscilla had heard, they took
him unto them, and expounded unto him the way of God more perfectly.”

-After they watered the Word in him, (1 Corin. 3:7) he didn’t reject it, and say momma didn’t
teach me that, but he gladly received it, because they expounded on the Word and it opened his
understanding, something he was hungry for. And God brought the increase by the hands of
Paul.

-Acts 18:27 “And when he was disposed to pass into Achaia, the brethren wrote, exhorting
the disciples to receive him: who, when he was come, helped them much which had believed
through grace.” (Acts 19:1-6) and Even Paul was such a well put together house, it almost
caused King Agrippa to become a Christian.

Acts 26: 26-29 26”For the king knoweth of these things, before whom also I speak freely: for I
am persuaded that none of these things are hidden from him; for this thing was not done in a
corner.
27) King Agrippa believest thou the prophets? I know that thou believest.

28) King Agrippa said unto Paul, Almost thou persuadest me to be a Christian.”

29) And Paul said, I would to God, that not only thou, but also all that hear me this day, were
both almost, and altogether such as I am, except these bonds.”

-Many people would ask, why would God allow this story to be in the bible, if the King
didn’t become a Christian?

-King Agrippa said Almost. The Word to be is a Greek word Ginomai (1096) which means
to come to oneself, to recover ones understanding. Christian Greek word Christianos
(5546) to be directed by God. The King in some way, knew what Paul was saying was true
(26-Paul discerned it).

- King Agrippa was used to being directed by himself, ruling with his own power; he had a
famous family heritage and he was the great, great grandson of King Herod, he had
money, power, fame and status, but there is something about when a person comes in
contact with the anointing of God. Paul was anointed and was such a well put together
House, vessel for God to use, that a person who thought they had everything they needed to
be happy, thought they had arrived, yet had this battle going on in his mind;

- for a second that made him come to his senses and begin to reason in his mind, maybe I
should or maybe I shouldn’t, I don’t know. See all God needs is a seed to be planted (1
Corin. 3:7) to fight against that seed of the enemy, in a person that thinks that as long as I
got material things, popularity, money, I’m happy on the inside and out, a seed that will
bother them in the midnight hour, and make them realize there has to be more to life than
this, that’s why God allowed this to be in the bible, so that his people would realize if you
are willing to build Houses for God, there is no limit to who God can save or persuade to
become a Christian.

-Jay-Z and Beyonce have all that money, fame, and status and believe they are happy, and
the Devil may have total control of them, but all it takes is a person willing to Build houses
for God, and if you’re willing and obedient, the group Vessels, or any of you, God can put
you in a place, to minister to them, if you’re willing to Build some Houses, he will put you
in position to do exactly what Psalms 81:10.

-It’s not by chance, some of you are criminal justice and International affairs majors;
ambassadors, Spanish majors, doctors, policemen. In the spirit, Paul had his Doctorate in
Criminal Justice and International Affairs. He was an ambassador for the Lord, and God
had called us to be “ambassadors for Christ” (2 Corin. 5:20) Some of you, if you’re willing
to Build Houses for God, God will put you in positions of high authority, in the white
House, on the NFL sidelines, to preach the Gospel to people who may believe they have it
all, but you have to be willing to Build. Are You Building Houses for God?
-I know we are busy and things come up and we have tests to study for, and exams, but in
the 3 ½ years Jesus was on this earth, he had assignments, tests, exams and finals like us.

-He had an assignment to come through 42 generations, (Matt. 1) he had a syllabus that
included fasting for 40 days and 40 nights in the wilderness, (Matt. 4) he had his first tests
when he was tempted three times by the Devil in the wilderness. (Matt. 4) In Between
classes on the way to Medical exam, brought forth sight to a blind man named Bartimaeus,
who had been blind all his life, (Mark 10:52) was running late to his biology 101 lab,
because he got caught up in a crowd, and while in the crowd brought forth new life, to a
woman who for 12 years had an issue of blood and was slowly losing her life. (Matt. 9:22)

-Ace his Psychology and Philosophy exams (Matt. 9:3-4) and also taught the Professors
a.k.a the Pharisees and Sadducees that the real search for Knowledge, Truth and authority
was wrapped up in him, managed to get to the Court house and convince a group of angry
Jurors, with rocks in their hands and evidence before them, not to stone a woman caught in
the very act of committing adultery, (John 8:7) and just before the day was over managed
to grab himself something to eat and some sleep at a man named Zacchaeus house. (Luke
19:3-6)

-He took his final exam when he was crucified and said IT IS finished! (John 19:30) And
graduated with flying colors when he got up out of the grave 3 days later, (Luke 24:46) and
received his diploma, declaring that all power is in his hands. (Matt. 28:18) He did this all
in 3 ½ years; he changed the world, and built up people that others passed by. Are You
Building Houses for Me? In this school year, let us strive to not only build each other up,
but build up some houses we pass by on campus every day. Strive to build up people, who
Satan has deemed lost!!! Amen (Ex: Choir Concert, daney, popular guy helps nerd)
