SME/E-smith-6.01.01 Server
HARDWARE

Components needed:

1 computer (Pentium III or higher, 256M Ram or higher, 10G Drive, CD, Keyboard,
Monitor, network connection to the Internet).

PC BIOS must be configurable to boot from the CDRom.

SOFTWARE NEEDED

Contribs.org v 6.01 Installation CD

…OR…

Create the installation cd from the CD Image (*.iso) that can be downloaded from the
following location.

Version: 6.01 http://contribs.org/modules/phpwiki/index.php/Downloads

SETUP PROCESS

Set the PC you will be using to boot from the CD.

Installing SME Version 6.01
1) Set the computer to boot from the CDRom by changing the BIOS setting.
2) Startup the computer with the CD in the CD drive
3) Type "install" (without quotes) at the [boot:] prompt.
4) Press [ Enter ]
5) Tab to the "ACCEPT" choice and press [ Enter ]
6) Select (up/down arrow) "Install using Single Hard Drive
7) Tab to "OK" and press [ Enter ]
8) Type "proceed" at the prompt and press [ Enter ]
9) Wait…. (for formatting, file transfer, etc.)
10) When prompted to create a Boot Diskette, insert a diskette in the drive and type
press [ Enter ] to select "Yes"
11) Press [ Enter ] to select "OK"
12) Press [ Enter ] and be ready to eject the CD.
13) Remove the CD while the system is shutting down.
14) Remove the boot floppy.
15) Wait… for the reboot process to complete.

Configuring the SME Server

1) When prompted for the admin password, type in a password, press [ Enter ]
2) Retype the password, press [ Enter ]
3) Tab to "Yes" press [ Enter ]
4) Enter a valid IP Address (or a domain name if you have one) from your local
network for the domain name.
5) Tab to "next" and press [ Enter ]
6) Type in a server name (i.e e-smith, etc.) tab to "Next", press [ Enter ]
7) Confirm that your Ethernet card(s) has(have) been detected.
Press [ Enter ] to select.
8) Enter the IP Address you used for the domain name or one on your network.
9) Tab to "Next" and press [ Enter ]
10) Enter the subnet mask for your network (255.255.255.___)
11) Tab to "Next" and press [ Enter ]
12) Operation Mode: select Server Only
13) DNS: Leave blank, tab to "Next" press [ Enter ]
14) Proxy: NO - tab to "Next" press [ Enter ]
15) Status to e-smith: NO press [ Enter ]
16) Console: Login arrow down to login, tab to "Next" press [ Enter ]
17) Notify updates by e-mail, (enter address or not) Press [ Enter ]
18) Activate Configuration: YES press [ Enter ]
19) Wait….. for reboot.
20) You are now ready to install the ISDW software.
