DIRECTOR’S NOTE

Latitude 28 is set to celebrate its 2nd
anniversary with a dynamic and eclectic
collection of artworks in ‘The Annual’. The
show marks the gallery’s relation to the varied
and challenging body of artworks its space
has come to display so far. The intent of the
gallery from its initiation has been to provide
the art community, a snapshot of a vibrant
generation of artists working across a range of
media, from painting, sculpture to installation
and video. These visual interventions, have
been in sync with the active social and
cultural engagement on part of the artists
accompanied in an equal amount with all
their enthusiasm and commitment to help
the gallery realize its set goals and ambitions.
Latitude 28 in view of such associations,
has been popularly staking a position which
is free of narrow specializations, allowing
artists an aesthetic playground where they
can engage and experiment with the thoughts
and sensations that connect with their own
experiences. Equally for the viewer, it has
provided an opportunity to breathe for a
while the scent of freedom that works of art
emit. With this show, an attempt is not only to
celebrate the unique and vibrant compilation
the gallery has to offer but also to reciprocate
to the exuberant and daring ‘zeitgeist’
consuming the art industry.

Deriving its nomenclature from the geographical location of New Delhi, LATITUDE 28 is located
at the art district of Lado Sarai. The shows conceived and presented under LATITUDE 28 are
a concocted gesture implicating a grounded and innovative curatorial strategy. The initiative is
not only to present a strand of artists through exhibitions but to foster a discursive dialogue
enriching the process of an artistic rendezvous.

A consortium of defined services also includes art management facilitation, building effective
portfolio for clients, consultancy, art funds, research and documentation. And though the gallery
aims to present artworks largely in sync with cutting edge trends, there is a large repository of
works of masters and senior contemporaries the gallery has in its collection.

The gallery attempts at representing contemporary Indian art not only through exhibitions in the
white cube of a gallery space, but also by supporting residencies, and organization of outreach
programs, seminars, and talks. Bhavna Kakar, the founder of LATITUDE 28 with a degree in
Art History and Painting, also essays the role of an Editor/Publisher of TAKE on art, an art
quarterly published from India that extends the vision of its outreach programs. Not confining
its presence within its own local premises, LATITUDE 28 represents artists under its brand at
international fairs such as Art Stage Singapore, Art HK, Scope Basel. Some of the forthcoming
shows are a curated exhibition titled ‘Love is the Devil’, Solo exhibitions of artists - Anupam Sud,
Chila Kumari Burman, Rajesh Ram, Kartik Sood and Anandita Bhattacharya. Through this the
gallery aims to exemplify the essential component of ‘the contemporary’ at important art tangents
signaling a shift away from simple survey exhibitions.
