Automatic Attendance Machine With Finger Print

Sensing Technique

This Project includes the mechanism of automatic attendance machine with

finger print sensor for avoiding unauthorized attendance. Various main parts
of the project is as follows:

Why Use Biometrics

Biometrics, the use of physiological or behavioral characteristics to
determine or verify an individual’s identity, is a dynamic technology that is
rapidly taking hold in homes, businesses and government facilities across
the globe. From PCs, to mobile phones to access control devices, biometrics
provides a convenient, reliable and cost-effective means for providing
security and other value-added benefits to the end-user.

Before biometrics emerged as the answer for convenient and reliable

security, individuals relied on more traditional security means such as
passwords, pins and keys. While these basic methods are proven to work,
they are not ideal for all situations.

Passwords, once perceived as a simple security solution, have become

cumbersome, vulnerable, expensive and prone to misuse. On average,
individuals have to remember 30 passwords and companies often spend $25
to $100 annually per employee to resolve password problems. To solve this
problem, leading manufacturers have turned to biometric technology to
protect critical computer information as they enable convenient security for
desktop and Internet applications – as well as a host of other benefits such as
fast-user-switching and easy access to secure web pages. There are tens of
millions of biometric laptop computers and peripherals on the market today.

Similarly, many cell phone users are forced to type in cumbersome pins on a
tiny keypad to gain access to the increasing about of valuable data, including
corporate email, pictures, data files, contact lists, and other sensitive
information, that is stored on their device. If users forget their pin or lose
their device, they are unable to access – or protect – this critical information.
What’s more, one of the latest developments in convergence is mobile
commerce, turning wireless devices into money phones or mobile wallets
much like a credit or debit card. This occurrence will make handhelds even
more valuable and more vulnerable to fraud or theft. For these reasons,
manufacturers and corporate buyers are looking to biometrics to provide a
solution.

Even locks and keys, the most traditional security method, can cause worry,
inconvenience and lost time if misplaced or stolen. Homeowners have
expressed concern about house keys being unknowingly copied as well as
the hassles associated with losing a key while most businesses and
government organizations need to restrict access in parts of their facilities to
employees with special clearances.

To help individuals overcome these common problems, biometrics have

been effectively integrated into a range of common access control systems,
such as home door locks, garage door openers, time and attendance systems
and office buildings – leading to rapid market expansion and adoption in
recent years. While all forms of biometrics follow the same general process
of enrollment, comparison and identification, it is clear that not all
biometrics are created equally – certain technologies are more ideally suited
for specific applications, based on vital factors such as security, ease of use
and cost. Based on these key performance measures, fingerprint biometrics
quickly emerged as the frontrunner in the biometrics arena and is continues
to be adopted into new markets and applications at a rapid pace. As the
global leader and innovator in fingerprint biometrics, AuthenTec invites you
to explore the endless applications and benefits that this technology
provides.
FINGER PRINT SENSOR MODULE:

It consists of a finger print sensor as the sensor plate and the IC which is
feeding data to that plate attached itself to the whole module. IC
continuously scans data from the sensor plate and convert it into digital
formats further it if followed by the interfacing of the microcontroller with
this IC. Controller will continuously catches data from sensor IC and made
calculations according to there need.

LCD and KEYPAD Module:

It consists of a LCD which is driven by the microcontroller. What ever user

write there in the controller like the date of attendance it will directly shown
on the LCD. Even It will show the roll no. automatically when user put there
thumb to sensor plate.

MOTHER CONTROLLER:

There is a mother controller which acts as a master and will command over
all other ICs take the commands from controller and acts according to there
need. It takes data from sensor IC and write it into the EPROM as to save
the attendance regularly and after one or two months user will take the
Printout with connecting this module to PC.
AES2510 Sensor

The AES2510 is the industry's most proven slide sensor and is used for
embedded access control applications in addition to handheld devices. The
AES2510 is a swipe sensor and thus smaller than conventional touch sensors
designed for the access control market. Due to its size and versatility, the
AES2510 is popular in mass market biometric security applications such as
home door locks and garage door openers.

What is a silicon fingerprint? Like a human fingerprint, a silicon fingerprint

is generated at birth. The one we gather is based on random and unique
manufacturing anomalies. A silicon fingerprint is unique and it can't be
changed, copied or forged. No two silicon fingerprints ever will be the same.
Both human and silicon fingerprints can be read at any time, using various
methods for identification or verification.

A silicon fingerprint gives the user the ability to trace back to a particular die
on a wafer and to store that information for later use. The applications for
this include: work-in-progress tracking to address issues such as process
variations, yield data, failure rates and yield enhancement; detection and
deterrence of rebranding of high-value parts (for example, parts are marked
with a different part number by someone to get a higher price, e.g., 200MHz
parts re-marked as 350MHz parts); and performance improvement tracking
for parts that can't be tested at speed until packaged. (And if a part doesn't
meet spec, the manufacturer needs to track back to where it came from, i.e.,
which die on which wafer - to diagnose the problems.)

Other major applications include pinpointing random defects in a

subpopulation to limit the liability of recalling parts and tracking the lineage
of a part used in high-reliability products such as medical devices and
military applications. Intellectual property (IP) can be tagged for royalty
purposes as well as for a deterrent to misuse. In this case, the IP provider can
do a field audit by electronically reading IDs and can look in his/her
database to find invalid applications.
Why should we care? Because if we don't use silicon fingerprinting, more
bad die will go out the door and there will be no way to figure out what the
problems are and no way to trace the source of the manufacturing glitch.

So what? Well, if yields go south, manufacturing costs increase, making

end-products a lot more expensive, less reliable and late to market. Those
Star Trek applications that we're just starting to see could stop coming off
the assembly lines for want of working chips. Or worse, they could come out
and not work correctly. That's not a major problem for your cell phone, but
could be catastrophic in your car, or in your pacemaker.
