Chapter 1. Introduction

This document explains how to install and run the JD Edwards EnterpriseOne 9.0/8.98
Standalone Client, hereafter referred to as Standalone Client. This version of the
Standalone Client supports only the Microsoft SQL Server Express Edition (SSE) as the
local database.

To install the Standalone Client that supports Oracle Enterprise Edition (OEE) as the
local database, you will need to obtain a separate download of the installer and follow the
instructions in the document JD Edwards EnterpriseOne 9.0/8.98 Standalone Client
Using Oracle Universal Installer (OUI) and Oracle Enterprise Edition (OEE) Database.

The Standalone Installation Guides are available in this document on My Oracle Support:

JD Edwards EnterpriseOne 9.0 Standalone Client Installation Guide, Update

(Doc ID 705516.1)
https://support.us.oracle.com/oip/faces/secure/km/DocumentDisplay.jspx?id=705516.1

The major steps in installing the Standalone Client include:

 Prepare target system

Make sure your system meets the Minimum Technical Requirements.

 Prepare the installation

Use one of the installation methods:

1. Copy the DVD to a hard drive.
2. Download an image of the installation DVD from the Oracle E-Delivery
web site.
This step also entails downloading and installing the correct database driver, if
needed.

 Install the components

Install the requested database if it is not already installed and the Standalone
Client.

This installation can include non-English languages.

Chapter 1. Introduction

 Troubleshoot the installation

Analyze and correct any problems that arise during the installation.

 Install the required JDK

After installing the Standalone Client, you must install a supported Java
Development Kit (JDK) for the Standalone Client.

Other tasks covered by this document include:

 Start the Standalone Client

Run the client and troubleshoot any startup errors.

 Start the Web Client

Run the web client as part of the Standalone Client and troubleshoot any
startup errors.

 Replace the JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Tools Component

Chapter 2. Prerequisites

Additional Considerations

1. Be sure the MTRs are met before starting the Standalone Client installation.

2. JDK 1.5 is required. Use the latest available update to JDK 1.5.

Notes: Renamed JDK. Several Java products were renamed such that
nomenclature of the release levels no longer is prefixed with 1. That
is, the JDK release formerly referred to as JDK 1.6 is now JDK 6,
while JDK 1.5 is now JDK 5, and so on.

In addition, whereas the Java Platform, Standard Edition was

formerly abbreviated as J2SE, it is now referred to as Java SE.

Although JDK 5.0 with Java EE may be used, the JDK 5.0 for SE is
smaller and may be used on the Standalone Client. On the Oracle
download site this is called JDK 5.0 Update 22 (the Update
number may be different; use the latest update).

JDK 6 not validated. JDK 6 and higher have not been validated
with EnterpriseOne as of December, 2010.

Use JDK – not JRE. The Java Development Kit (JDK) is required
for the Standalone Client – not just the Java Runtime Environment
(JRE). The JDK contains a JRE. Ensure you download the
complete JDK.

3. Microsoft Visual Studio is not required unless you are building business
functions. The installation of the Standalone Client installs the Microsoft libraries
that are necessary to run EnterpriseOne, but if you plan to build business
functions, you will need the compiler and additional libraries that Visual Studio
provides.

4. Verify that all previous releases of JD Edwards EnterpriseOne (Standalone

Clients and normal clients) have been completely uninstalled or saved via
Snapshot before installing the Standalone Client. For instructions on how to
uninstall the Standalone Client, refer to the section of this guide entitled:
Uninstalling the Standalone Client.

5. Standalone Client does not require Software Protection Codes (SPCs) to run so
you will not need to perform the steps for applying SPCs that previous
EnterpriseOne releases required.

Copyright © 2010, Oracle. All rights reserved GA.Rev3 5

Chapter 2. Prerequisites

6. This version of the Standalone Client supports only the Microsoft SQL Server
Express Edition (SSE) as the local database.

This version of the Standalone Client does not support Oracle Enterprise Edition
(OEE) as the local database.

7. If you previously had SQL Server 2005 Express Edition (SSE) installed as the
local database and you are reinstalling the Standalone Client, you do not have to
uninstall the database first. However, if you need to reinstall the database for
some reason, follow the instructions in the section of this guide entitled:
Uninstalling the Standalone Client.

Chapter 3. Installation Methods

Depending on several factors, you can install the Standalone Client using one of these
methods:

Method Method Requirements

From a copy of a DVD You have a DVD
Use the procedures described in the section in this
chapter entitled: Copying the Installation DVD.
From a E-Delivery You have access to the Oracle E-Delivery website
download
Use the procedures described in the section in this
chapter entitled: Downloading from the Oracle E-
Delivery Website.

Note: SEE Local Database. You cannot install directly from a DVD. The reason
is because you must copy the Microsoft JDBC drivers to the Standalone
Client installer location prior to running the installer, thus allowing the
installer to function properly.

Chapter 3. Installation Methods

Copying the Installation DVD

Perform these steps if you are copying the installation DVD to a hard drive, either locally
or to a network location. You may want to do this so additional users can install from a
single location.

► To copy the installation DVD

1. On the hard drive onto which you want to copy the installation DVD, create a
temporary installation directory. The recommended name is:
\Standalone_9.00

2. Copy the contents of the installation DVD to the temporary installation directory
you created in Step 1 above.

Chapter 3. Installation Methods

8. Save the .zip file to the temporary installation directory you created in Step 1.
If you followed the recommendation, this is the directory name:

\Standalone_9.00

9. After you finish downloading the first item, labeled (Part 1 of 2), select the
corresponding row for the second item labeled (Part 2 of 2) and click the
Download button.

10. Again, save the .zip file to the same directory where you saved the previous
.zip file.

11. After you finish downloading all parts of your item, use Microsoft Windows
Explorer to navigate to the temporary folder and double click the first .zip file.

12. When prompted, extract the contents of this file to the temporary installation
directory you created in Step 1. If you followed the recommendation, the
directory is named:

\Standalone_9.00

Note: Extract Option. When extracting, be sure to click in the checkbox to enable
this option:

Use folder names

13. In the same manner, extract the remaining .zip file(s).

Copyright © 2010, Oracle. All rights reserved GA.Rev3 11

Chapter 3. Installation Methods

Note: JDBC Drivers. You must download the JDBC drivers for SSE and place
them into the proper location under the temporary installation directory (for
example, \Standalone_9.00). This procedure is described in the next
section of this guide entitled: Installing the JDBC Database Driver (SSE
Local Database Only).
This example screen illustrates the directory structure for when the .zip files
are extracted into the recommended temporary installation directory
(Standalone_9.00):

Chapter 4. Installing the JDBC Database Driver

Database drivers are used to connect to a database installed locally on your Standalone
Client workstation. These are called JDBC database drivers and are specific to the type
of database that you are using.
You must download the appropriate JDBC driver from Microsoft before installing the
Standalone Client. To complete this task, follow the steps in this chapter. You should
check applicable licensing requirements before downloading Microsoft SSE database
drivers.

► To install the required JDBC drivers

1. Change to the temporary installation directory where you copied the installation
DVD or the installation download for Standalone Client. If you followed the
recommendation this directory is:

c:\Standalone_9.00

2. Assuming you followed the recommendation for the temporary installation

directory, create this subdirectory structure:
c:\Standalone_9.00\ThirdParty\WebDevFeature\JDBC

3. On the client workstation, create a temporary download directory in which to

place the downloaded drivers. For example:
c:\TEMP\JDBC

4. To obtain the JDBC drivers from Microsoft, navigate to the Microsoft Download
Center or use this link:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads

5. On the Microsoft Download Center, search for:

SQL Server 2005 JDBC Driver

6. Select the highest versioned (most current) driver from the list.

Note: SQL Server 2005. Ensure that you select the driver for SQL Server 2005,
and not any other version of SQL Server such as 2000 or 2008.

Copyright © 2009, Oracle. All rights reserved GA.Rev3 13

Chapter 4. Installing the JDBC Database Driver

7. Perform the steps necessary to download the selected driver and extract it to the
JDBC driver download directory that you created in Step 3 (if you followed the
recommendation, the directory is c:\TEMP\JDBC).

8. In Microsoft Windows Explorer, navigate to this directory:

c:\Temp\JDBC\sqljdbc_x.y\enu
where x.y is the version of the JDBC driver that you downloaded.

9. Copy the sqljdbc.jar file from that directory to this directory:

c:\Standalone_9.00\ThirdParty\WebDevFeature\JDBC

Note: JDBC Driver Directory Considerations. Be sure to copy the JDBC driver
to the \ThirdParty\WebDevFeature\JDBC folder as documented
above before installing the Standalone Client. When executing, the
Standalone Client installer programmatically copies the driver from the
above directory to the \misc directory under your installation directory.
The \misc is the correct directory for Standalone Client, regardless of any
other documentation that might state that you must copy the driver to some
other location, such as \system\oc4j\j2ee\home\applib directory
under your installation directory.

If for some reason you must copy in the JDBC driver after installing the
Standalone Client (for example, you obtained a newer driver), you must
manually copy it into the \misc directory under your installation directory.
Warning: You must ensure that only the specified version of this file
exists and if necessary you must delete any lower versions of this file.

Chapter 5. Installing the Standalone Client

Before You Begin

Verify that your system meets the Minimum Technical Requirements.

Ensure you have installed the requisite JDBC drivers using the instructions in
the section of this guide entitled: Chapter 4. Installing the JDBC Database
Driver.

You can install the Standalone Client from a copy of the DVD or a download from E-
Delivery. Refer to Chapter 3. Installation Methods for additional details.

Notes: Assumptions. The instructions in this chapter assume you are installing
from a copy of the DVD.

These instructions assume that the drive letter is “C”. Substitute the correct
drive letter where appropriate.

If you are installing from a copy of the DVD or a download from E-Delivery,
the installation program will be in the directory into which you copied the
DVD or into which you expanded the downloaded files. If you followed the
recommendation, this directory is:

c:\Standalone_9.00

As is the case with all installations on Microsoft Windows machines

(including Microsoft Windows XP and Vista), in order to run the installer for
the Standalone Client, you must be logged onto Microsoft Windows as a user
with Administrator rights.

Chapter 5. Installing the Standalone Client

Note: Non-English Versions. Due to the maximum SSE database size restrictions,
the SSE non-English versions of the Standalone Client are segmented into
three different installations. In this case, there is a different Install
Manager welcome screen. In such cases, you must follow slightly different
steps as described in the section of this guide entitled: Installing the
Languages Standalone Client for SSE. Upon completion, when you finish
those instructions, continue with Step 3 below.

Chapter 5. Installing the Standalone Client

Note: Java Compiler Not Correctly Installed. You will receive this message
because you cannot install the Java compiler until after the Standalone Client
has been installed and the correct directory structure exists as a result of the
installation. Until the Java compiler is correctly installed the Web
Development environment cannot function correctly.

In some versions of the Standalone Client, this message may indicate that the
JDK should be placed into the <E1_install_dir>\system\jdk\system
folder. This is incorrect. The JDK should be placed as a subfolder in the
<E1_install_dir>\system folder. For example:
C:\E900\system\JDK.

Although this problem has been fixed, you may see this erroneous message if
you are running an older version of the Standalone Client installer that does
not have the fix.

12. Click Next to complete the installation of the Standalone Client.

13. On Client Workstation Setup, click OK to finish the installation of the Standalone
Client.

Chapter 5. Installing the Standalone Client

Warning: Examine the Installer Logs. Regardless of whether you get the above message
indicating the Standalone Client installer succeeded, you should always check
the logs before you attempt to run the Standalone Client. The installer log file is
called:
c:\jdeinst.log file

You should address any errors indicated in this log file with the exception of the
following benign errors:
AddWorkstationInfoFile(): Directory permissions on
'\package_inf\feature_inf\VS2005RTL_1.INF' are invalid.
AddWorkstationInfoFile(): Directory permissions on
'\Package_inf\Feature_inf\WebDevelF_1.inf' are invalid.

14. Perform the tasks in the section of this guide entitled: Chapter 6. Installing the
Required JDK.

Chapter 5. Installing the Standalone Client

Installing the Languages Standalone Client

This section applies only to installing the Languages Standalone Client running against
a local SSE database.
For technical reasons related to database size limitations in SEE, the JD Edwards
EnterpriseOne application database specifications for the multiple language version of the
Standalone Client are split into multiple installation files. These files were split in an
arbitrary grouping of languages.

1. Run the InstallManager.exe for the SSE version of the multiple languages
Standalone Client installer.

Note: Vista and Greater on Microsoft Windows. When running the installation
program on Vista and higher versions of Microsoft Windows, you must right
click on the executable and select Run as Administrator.

Upon execution, InstallManager displays this screen of language options:

Chapter 5. Installing the Standalone Client

2. Locate the language you wish to install and select the applicable link for the
column (Option A, Option B, or Option C) in which the language resides:
Select an option to install the EnterpriseOne E900 Standalone Client
Option A Option B Option C
English English English
Dutch Arabic Danish
French Czech Korean
German Finnish Traditional Chinese
Italian Greek Simplified Chinese
Japanese Hungarian Polish
Portuguese Norwegian Swedish
Spanish Russian
Turkish

The JD Edwards EnterpriseOne application spec database for the corresponding

option will be installed on this machine along with the Standalone Client. Note
that because each option contains multiple languages, all of those languages in the
option that you select will be available at run time. You can select the language
to use by changing the user preferences from within EnterpriseOne.

3. Continue with the rest of the installation instructions in the section Installing the
Standalone Client.

Note: Changing Languages. If you later need to change the group of languages to
use, you can:

1. Use the Snapshot.exe program to save off the existing Standalone

Client installation.

2. Rerun the InstallManager.exe.

3. Select the desired language option.

4. Complete the rest of the installation.

Chapter 6. Installing the Required JDK

After installing the Standalone Client, you must install a supported Java Development Kit
(JDK) for the Standalone Client. The Standalone Client installation installs a version of
the Oracle Application Server that requires a JDK. Currently, Oracle Corporation cannot
distribute a JDK with this Standalone Client installer, so you must download and install a
JDK. The JDK must reside in a directory on the Standalone Client workstation.
To complete this task, you must obtain the required JDK from Oracle and install it on the
Standalone Client machine. Refer to the Minimum Technical Requirements section to
determine the correct JDK required for this installation.

Note: Network Connectivity. It is strongly advised that the machine on which you
are installing has network connectivity when installing your JDK. This is
because various updates and libraries may be required from the Oracle site as
the installation proceeds. If the machine does not have network connectivity,
the installer may appear to complete normally, but the complete directory
structure required for Standalone Client may not be present.

► To install the required JDK

1. On the Standalone Client, create these two directories in which you will place the
JDK:
c:\Temp\JDK
<E1_install_dir>\system\JDK
where <E1_install_dir> is the directory in which you installed the
Standalone Client.
2. Determine the required JDK version specified in the Minimum Technical
Requirements and Additional Considerations sections for the Standalone Client.

3. Navigate to this Oracle website:

http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/index.html

Copyright © 2009, Oracle. All rights reserved GA.Rev3 30

Chapter 6. Installing the Required JDK

4. On the displayed web page, locate the required JDK version. If the current
release of the JDK version is greater than that specified by the MTRs, you may
need to drill down further on the Oracle web site. For example, from the main
index there may be a tab or a link for Previous Releases of the JDK.

5. Once you have located the requisite JDK, click the download button, review the
license agreement and if you choose to accept, select the Accept option to accept
the license agreement.

6. Save the JDK self-extracting executable to a temporary directory on your local

drive. For example:
c:\Temp

7. The program downloads the JDK self-extracting executable to the temporary

directory.

Warning: JDK Download Directory. Do not download the .exe file of

the JDK into the JDK directory that you created in Step 1. The
reason is because when you extract this file, the file cannot exist
in the same directory into which the extraction occurs.

8. From Microsoft Windows Explorer, navigate to the temporary directory from

Step 6, and double click the downloaded executable program to run it.

9. If you receive a security warning, select Run.

10. Accept the Oracle license agreement.

11. Install the JDK into the directory that you created in step 1:

c:\Temp\JDK

Note: JDK Installation Directory. You cannot select the same folder
where the install executable is located; the installation destination
folder must be different.

12. Accept all other default values during the installation setup, although if desired
you can deselect all Browser Registration options.

The installation process takes several minutes.

13. When the process is complete, click Finish.

Chapter 7. Starting the Standalone Client

► To start the Standalone Client

1. Launch the Standalone Client by double clicking the shortcut EnterpriseOne

Solution Explorer either on your desktop or under Start > All Programs.

Note: Vista and Greater on Microsoft Windows. When running the installation
program on Vista and higher versions of Microsoft Windows, you must right
click on the shortcut or executable and select Run as Administrator.

Optionally, you can double click the program activConsole.exe from this
directory:
<E1_install_dir>\system\bin32

2. Enter the default user ID, which is DEMO and the default password, which is also
DEMO. If the environment and role fields are shown, you can accept the
defaults, which are environment DEMO900 and role *ALL.

Chapter 7. Starting the Standalone Client

3. If you have installed any Oracle Business Accelerators (OBA), click the Options
button to display the environment and role fields. In this case, you should enter
the role: DEMOROLE and take the default environment: DEMO900.

4. Click the OK button to login into the Standalone Client.

Note: Startup Time. You should allow sufficient startup time for the JD
Edwards EnterpriseOne background process jdenet_n.exe,
which acts as the security server on the Standalone Client. Ensure
this program has completed its initialization steps before you click
OK on the logon screen.

This can be immediately.

Chapter 7. Starting the Standalone Client

Troubleshooting Standalone Client Startup Errors

This section describes these troubleshooting tasks:

General
Cannot Connect to the Security Server
Still Cannot Connect to the Security Server

General

If you have any trouble running the Standalone Client, turn on additional logging and
rerun the Standalone Client.

1. Run the Microsoft Windows Task Manager.

2. Click the Processes tab.

3. If the column headed PID is not displayed, use this procedure to turn it on:

a. In the menu, go to View > Select Columns…

b. Turn on the checkbox next to PID (Process Identifier).

c. Click OK.

4. Kill these processes if they are running:

activConsole.exe
jdenet_n.exe

5. Edit this file:

c:\Windows\jde.ini

6. In the [DEBUG] section, change the value of the Output key to FILE, as shown
below:
[DEBUG]
Output=FILE

7. Note the names of the log files specified for the JobFile and DebugFile keys in the
Debug section so you can locate them when needed.

8. Run activConsole.exe from this directory:

<E1_install_dir>\system\bin32

Copyright © 2010, Oracle. All rights reserved GA.Rev3 35

Chapter 7. Starting the Standalone Client

9. Attempt to sign into the Standalone Client.

Logs are generated in the directory specified by the JobFile and DebugFile
keys in the [DEBUG] section of the jde.ini. However, the names of the files
will be of the forms jde_pid_mmddyy.log and
jdedebug_pid_mmddyy.log where:
pid is the ID of the process generating the log.
mmddyy is the month, day, and year in which the log was generated.

You can determine which process ID belongs to each EnterpriseOne process by

noting the process IDs and names shown in the Microsoft Windows Task
Explorer and by examining the first few lines of the generated logs.

Chapter 7. Starting the Standalone Client

Cannot Connect to the Security Server

Problem:

You get an error (either in a pop-up window or in the logs) indicating that the Standalone
Client could not connect to the security server.

Resolution:

Try the following:

1. Try again to sign on. The security server (process jdenet_n.exe) may have
simply been slow in starting causing the activConsole.exe to time out.

2. By default, the Standalone Client attempts to start the web client at the same time
that activConsole.exe starts. This could cause the security server (process
jdenet_n.exe) to take too long to start causing the activConsole.exe to
time out.
You can specify that the web client should start only when you attempt to bring
up the Web menu (described in the next section entitled: Still Cannot Connect to
the Security Server). To do so, follow these steps:
a. Run the Microsoft Windows Task Manager.

b. Kill these processes if they are running:

activConsole.exe
jdenet_n.exe

c. Edit the c:\windows\jde.ini file.

d. Change the value of the StartAppServer key in the [LOCALWEB]

section to ONDEMAND. For example:

[LOCALWEB]
StartAppServer=ONDEMAND
e. Rerun activConsole.exe.

Chapter 7. Starting the Standalone Client

Still Cannot Connect to the Security Server

Problem:

After doing the above, you again get an error (either in a pop-up window or in the logs)
indicating that the Standalone Client could not connect to the security server.

Resolution:

Verify that the local database service(s) is running using this procedure:

1. Go to Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services.

2. Verify that the status of this service is Started:

SQL Server (JDESSELOCAL)

If not, click on it and then click Action > Start in the menu.

3. Try to sign in again by following these steps:

a. Run the Microsoft Windows Task Manager.

b. Kill these processes if they are running:

activConsole.exe
jdenet_n.exe

c. Rerun activConsole.exe .

Chapter 8. Starting the Standalone Web Client

► To start Standalone Client Web Applications

1. Follow the steps in the section Starting the Standalone Client.

2. Select Tools > EnterpriseOne Menu.

The Standalone Client should automatically sign you into the Standalone Web
Client.

Troubleshooting Standalone Web Client Startup Errors

This section discusses these troubleshooting topics:

General
Cannot Connect to the Security Server

Chapter 8. Starting the Standalone Web Client

General

If you have any trouble running the Web Client, look at the Web Client logs.

1. In Microsoft Windows Explorer, drill down to the location of the Web Client
logs. By default, the logs are located in this directory:

<E1_install_dir>\system\OC4J\j2ee\home\log

2. Examine any logs that were recently created, especially logs that are prefixed with
either:

jas
jde

3. If you do not find any logs with the above prefixes, the logs may be in another
folder. Use this procedure to determine the location of those logs:
a. In Microsoft Windows Explorer, drill down to this directory:
<E1_install_dir>\system\OC4J\j2ee\home\applications\
webclient.ear\webclient\WEB-INF\classes

b. Edit the file jdelog.properties.

Note: The information at the top of the jdelog.properties file

explains the uses and possible values of all the keys in the file.

Search through the file and note the value of the FILE key. In each of the
sections that describes a log file there are section headers that are enclosed in
square brackets ([ and ]). If a section header or the FILE key is commented
out with a pound sign (#), you can ignore that section. For example:
#[E1LOG]
or
# File=log\jderoot.log

The value of the FILE key in each section is the name and path of a log file
associated with that section. For example:

File=log\jderoot.log

Copyright © 2010, Oracle. All rights reserved GA.Rev3 40

Chapter 8. Starting the Standalone Web Client

The actual file name will be the value of the FILE key with an underscore and
the current date appended. For example:
jderoot_090109.log

If a log file name and path starts with a drive letter followed by a colon and
slash, the path is absolute. This means that the log file will be located on the
specified drive in the specified directory. For example:

File=c:\standalone_logs\jas_090109.log

If a log file name and path starts with a slash, the path is also absolute. This
means that the log file will be located on the drive on which the E1
Standalone Client is installed and in the specified directory. For example:

File=\log\jderoot_090109.log

If a log file name and path start with neither a drive letter nor a backslash, the
path is relative to this folder:
<E1_install_dir>\system\OC4J\j2ee\home

For example, if the value for the FILE key is log\jas.log and the
Standalone Client is installed in c:\E900, the log file is written to:

c:\E900\system\OC4J\j2ee\home\log

Chapter 8. Starting the Standalone Web Client

Cannot Connect to the Security Server

Problem:

After starting the Standalone Web Client from the Standalone Client, you get an error on
the screen indicating that the Web Client could not connect to the security server.

Resolution:

Verify that the local database service(s) is running using this procedure:

1. Go to Start > Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services.

2. Verify that the status of this service is Started:

SQL Server (JDESSELOCAL)

If not, click on it and then click Action > Start in the menu.

3. Try to sign in again by following these steps:

a. Exit from the Standalone Web Client and Standalone Client.

b. Run the Microsoft Windows Task Manager.

c. Wait for these processes to die:

activConsole.exe
jdenet_n.exe
java.exe

Copyright © 2010, Oracle. All rights reserved GA.Rev3 42

Chapter 8. Starting the Standalone Web Client

Note: The java.exe program is used by a variety of programs

written in the Java programming language. One of these
programs is the Standalone Web Client; however, it could be
running for any number of other Java programs. It is difficult to
tell in Microsoft Windows Task Manager if the java.exe is
associated with the Standalone Web Client or with some other
program. If you wait for a minute or more and a java.exe
remains running, you can assume that it is associated with a Java
program other than the Standalone Web Client. In that case,
continue to the next step.

d. Rerun activConsole.exe to restart the Standalone Client, sign in,

and start the Standalone Web Client (select Tools > EnterpriseOne Menu
from the Standalone Client).

Chapter 9. Replacing the JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Tools
Release Component

The JD Edwards EnterpriseOne 9.0/8.98 Standalone Client is shipped with a specific

release of the Tools component, for example, 8.98.0.1. (The Tools component of the
Standalone Client is also known as "system.") You can determine this particular release
by examining the contents of the <E1_install_dir>\system\bin32\ptf.log
file. If Global Customer Support instructs you to update the Tools component to a newer
release, follow the instructions in this chapter.
Also as directed by Global Customer Support, because you will run the Web
Development Client installer to configure some files, you must also replace the Web
Development Client installer with a newer installer.

Notes: Because you are replacing part of the Standalone Client installer, you will
need to either copy the installer from a DVD to a hard drive or download the
installer from E-Delivery. Follow the instructions in the section Copying
the Installation DVD or Downloading from the Oracle E-Delivery Website.

For the following instructions, it is assumed that the folder where the
Standalone Client installer resides is:

<drive>:\Standalone_9.00

► To Replace the Tools component

1. If EnterpriseOne is running, stop it.

2. Use Task Manager to verify these processes are stopped:

activConsole.exe
jdenet_n.exe

If either or both of these processes are running, either wait for them to finish or
kill them via Task Manager.

3. Because the entire system is to be replaced, you should backup your existing
system directory in your installed Standalone Client. To do so, rename the
directory. For example:

Copyright © 2009, Oracle. All rights reserved GA.Rev3 44

Chapter 9. Replacing the JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Tools Release Component

ren <E1_install_dir>\system <E1_install_dir>\system_old

Note: Unable to Rename. If Microsoft Windows does not allow you to

rename the directory, one or more running java.exe processes may
have the directory locked. In this case, either reboot your machine or
use Microsoft Windows Task Manager to kill the java.exe
process(es).

4. Make a backup copy of the Web Development Client installer file which is
named:
<drive>:\Standalone_9.00\ThirdParty\WebDevFeature\OH4A1013_setup.exe

5. Download the appropriate Tools Release WINCLIENT from the Update Center.

The download is transferred to your machine as a .par file. This file may be
opened with the standard WinZip program.

Warning: Improper Unzipping. You should not open the .par file by
double clicking on it. It is a self-extracting file that is normally
installed on a deployment server. If you double-click on it, it
will assume that your workstation is a deployment server and
attempt to install it in an incompatible manner.

6. Open the .par file with WinZip.

7. Inside the .par file are multiple .CAB files in the Disk1\System folder. The
files are called SystemX.CAB where X is either nonexistent or a whole number.
Extract these .CAB files into a temporary folder. Be sure to specify Use folder
names in WinZip.

The system .CAB files are extracted to this structure under your temporary folder:

Disk 1\System

8. Open each of these .CAB files in turn in WinZip and expand them into the
Disk 1\System folder under your temporary folder.

When extracting the .CAB files, be sure to specify Use folder names.

9. Copy the new system directory and all its files and subdirectories to your
installed Standalone Client (for example: c:\E900).

Copyright © 2010, Oracle. All rights reserved GA.Rev3 45

Chapter 9. Replacing the JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Tools Release Component

10. Also inside the .par file will be the Web Development Client installer, which is
called:
Disk 1\ThirdParty\WebDevFeature\OH4A1013_setup.exe

Extract this file to this directory:

<drive>:\Standalone_9.00\ThirdParty\WebDevFeature

11. If the SSE version of the Standalone Client is installed, follow the instructions in
the section of this guide entitled: Chapter 4. Installing the JDBC Database Driver.

12. Run the Web Development Client installer named:

<drive>:\Standalone_9.00\ThirdParty\WebDevFeature\OH4A1013_setup.exe

13. Follow the instructions in the section of this guide entitled: Installing the Required
JDK. If the Minimum Technical Requirement for the JDK for the Standalone
Client has not changed from the original installation of the Standalone Client, you
may copy the JDK from the original installation into the new system. For
example:
c:\E900\system_old\jdk

14. Clear the cache in your browser using these browser-dependent procedures:

Microsoft Internet Explorer

a. Go to Tools > Internet Options.

b. On the General tab, click the Delete Files... button.

c. Click the OK button.

d. Click the OK button.

e. Exit Internet Explorer.

Mozilla Firefox
a. Go to Tools > Options.
