In September 2009, Pastor Manuel Camacho (33) was
shot and killed outside his home in the village of
Choapal, Guaviare.
Pastor Camacho had previously received threats from a
local guerrilla group and was concerned about the safety of
his family. It is believed he was murdered because he was
successfully bringing people to Christ in the local area. His
church was growing, with 60 baptised members and 30 new

Camacho’s murder.
Pastor Camacho’s wife Gloria and her two children have since
moved to live with Gloria’s mother-in-law. Her plans are to
find a job and start a new life. "I thought it hurt more at the
beginning of the death of Manuel, but now I feel a great
emptiness that grows over time,” she says. “I have to recover
so that my children will believe in God’s restoration, as will
other believers who have experienced the loss of a loved one.
“I will not stop preaching,” she added. “My husband died like a
martyr and he is with our Father; we need to encourage each
other and continue.”

Pray for an end to the violent conflict that has rocked this
nation, and for peace and justice to be restored. Ask the
Lord to be a refuge and a stronghold to the small Christian
community during this period of uncertainty and upheaval.
Saturday 2 April – Libya
Thank God for the opportunities that satellite TV and radio
provide to reach people with the gospel (see Magazine p10).
Pray that many Libyans will be open to receive the message of
Christ at this time of change.
Sunday 3 April – Tunisia
Many people in Tunisia are beginning to show an interest in
Christianity. Ask God to use Christian TV and radio programmes
to open people’s minds to the truth of who Jesus is.
Monday 4 April – Algeria
Increasing numbers of people are coming to faith through
satellite TV and internet. Pray for wisdom and protection
for Open Doors partners involved in following up people’s
questions, or providing Bibles to those who

Tuesday 5 April – Ethiopia
At least one Christian died and around 4,000 were displaced
when Muslim extremists burnt down 59 churches and 28
homes in Jimma at the start of March. Pray for Open Doors
staff working to provide much-needed relief to the displaced.
Wednesday 6 April – South Sudan
Violent clashes in the Abyei region on 6 and 7 March left 100
people dead and up to 25,000 displaced. Pray for wisdom for
Open Doors workers to know how to address the need.
Thursday 7 April – Nigeria
Thank God for providing for the needs of Rebecca and Sarah
(see Magazine p6). Pray for complete healing for Sarah and
pray that her testimony will encourage other believers.
Friday 8 April – Nigeria
Scores of believers have been killed and many more injured
in pre-election violence in Plateau state since Christmas. Pray
for wisdom for Open Doors co-workers as they seek to bring
strength and encouragement to the Nigerian church.
Saturday 9 April – Nigeria
As the elections take place today, pray that the voting would
be peaceful, free and fair. Ask God to raise up leaders who fear
God and who love justice and righteousness.
Asia
Sunday 10 April – China
Thank God for the completion of Volume 1 of the Open Doors
Old Testament Youth Bible. Please pray for its safe delivery to
Christian youth all over China, and pray that it will help young
Christians develop a better understanding of God’s Word.
Monday 11 April – Vietnam
Open Doors runs training programmes to equip Christian
women to realise their God-given role in the family, society
and the church. Pray for women attending a course in the
north of the country, and ask God to help them pass on what
they have learned to their families and neighbours.

Tuesday 12 April – Bhutan
Bhutan is in the midst of significant political and religious
developments that could bring greater religious freedom to
the church. Pray for wisdom for pastors and church leaders in
responding to these changes, and pray that they would stand
united in seeking divine direction through prayer.
Wednesday 13 April – Burma
Despite successful national elections last year, there are
few signs of a transition to a democratic government. The
oppression and confinement of believers in poverty-stricken,
rat-infested areas is expected to continue. Ask God to make it
possible for outside help to reach these believers.
Thursday 14 April – India
Over 100 Christian families in Chhattisgarh have been pushed
out of their villages by Maoist rebels, after local villagers
accused them of being government sympathisers. Pray for
wisdom for Open Doors staff working to address the situation.
Friday 15 April – Bangladesh
The high illiteracy rate among believers hinders them
from maturing in their faith. Pray that Open Doors' literacy
programme would contribute to the spiritual growth of
believers, especially those living in remote villages.
