WORKSHOP

Basic Collections Care for

Archives, Artifacts and Artwork
The W.I. Federal Archives Centre/Cave Hill Campus Archives will be hosting
two half-day workshops entitled, Basic Collections Care for Archives,
Artifacts and Artwork as part of its Archives Awareness Month celebrations
in the month of May. The half-day workshops will be held on 23rd and 25th
May 2011 from 10.00am – 1.00pm.

Objective of the Workshop

The workshop will introduce participants to basic care and management

techniques & practices, equipping them with an understanding of how to
care for their institutional and personal archival treasures for long-term use.

Cost of the Workshop

This workshop will be free of cost as part of the community outreach

programme of the Archives.

Who is Eligible?

Anyone with an interest in preserving archives, artifacts or artwork for

future generations to enjoy.

How to Register?

Interested persons must complete the attached registration form.

Method of Selection

The first thirty (30) individuals to complete registration forms and return
them to the Archives by post or e-mail will be entered into the workshop.

• The Importance of Collections Care

• Documenting Your Collection
• Proper Handling of Objects, Stabilization, Storage and Cleaning
• Appropriate Exhibition and Rotation

Attendees will be expected to participate in practical sessions using basic

collections care techniques for cleaning and stabilizing archives, artifacts
and artwork.

Participants will also be provided with an informative leaflet covering the

themes on the workshop.

Participants will be awarded Certificates of Participation.

Light refreshments will be served!
