South East Asia’s patient monitoring market reached USD60 million in 2007

with growth led by emerging market, Vietnam

Clearstate’s study in SEA provide detailed and granular on patient monitoring placement,
usage and perceptions.

Clearstate tracking of the medical devices market in South East Asia reveals that the region’s
patient monitoring devices market reached USD60 million in 2006. The market is set to grow at
a moderate pace of 4 to 6%, reaching USD68 – 70million in 2010.

According to Clearstate’s bi-annual tracking of

to be the fastest growing market in the region.

Philips and GE lead the market for patient monitors across the region, followed by Japanese
player Nihon Kohden. A number of regional brands are growing in popularity in the basic
segment on the strength of their lower prices, particularly in Indonesia, Philippines and
Vietnam; this segment is likely to show strong competition in the 2 to 3 parameters segment
during the next few years.

Clearstate’s study found over 29,000 patient monitor units installed in South East Asia. High-

SEA patient monitor database planned

Following the highly successful IVD Gateway, Clearstate will add patient monitoring to its
pioneering line of usage and demand pattern databases this year. The patient monitoring
database will compile data collected from over 1,500 hospitals in South East Asia, and will
include granular information on unit installation, penetration of key brands by segment, region
and unit location. The large user size of the database (nearly one-third of the relevant universe
of facilities) will need little extrapolation and will accurately reflect real usage and consumption
of patient monitoring devices in South East Asia.

Clearstate’s comprehensive database will enable patient monitoring suppliers to:

track market performance and competition over time
 determine user preferences and trends
 determine replacement cycles
reliably and accurately plan sales strategies, and
 assess opportunity by geography

Besides strategic impact, the database’s granularity will enable patient monitoring suppliers to
track their market performance vis-à-vis competition over time, and monitor changes in usage
and buying behavior.
