Prospect of Acquiring Education

As usual, first of all we have got to check for the presence of the
combinations indicating the possibility of having some serious
physical or mental handicaps. Although such things are really very
rare, still there are certain serious handicaps, which can totally block
the prospect of education. If any serious affliction to eye-sight and/
or serious kind of mental unsoundness is found to be present in the
chart, then it would be manifestly absurd to proceed any further.

Judging the prospect of education is not at all an easy task, which can
be done merely at a glance. The process is rather very complex --
since so many houses and so many planets are involved. It is to be
remembered that for judging education, we have to check the
concerned houses (which are far too many) and the concerned
planets (which are also many) - both main and subsidiary. It should
not and must not be concluded from a single house (like the 4th or
the 5th), and a single planet (Mercury) as it's natural significator.

IMPORTANCE OF THE 2nd HOUSE : The 2nd-house indicates

'aptitude' and proficiency, and the Moon can be taken as the natural
significator for it. If the 2nd-lord is situated in exaltation-sign or in
own-sign or in own-nakshatra, or natural benefic planet/s is/ are
situated in the 2nd-house, or natural benefic planet/s aspect the 2nd-
house, or if an exalted planet is situated in the 2nd-house, or if the
Moon is situated in the 2nd-house, or if the Moon and the 2nd-lord
are conjoined together or if these two planets aspect each other, then
excellent aptitude and proficiency are indicated. If the Ascendant-lord
and the 2nd-lord are involved in sign-exchange or nakshatra-
exchange, or the Ascendant-lord is situated in the 2nd-house, or the
2nd-lord is situated in the Ascendant, then also the indications will be
similar.

IMPORTANCE OF THE 3rd HOUSE : Among other things, the 3rd-

house indicates patience and 'informal studies'; Saturn can be taken
as the natural significator for these. If the 3rd-lord is situated in
exaltation-sign or in own-sign or in own-nakshatra, or natural benefic
planet/s is/ are situated in the 3rd-house, or natural benefic planet/s
aspect the 3rd-house, or if an exalted planet is situated in the 3rd-
house, or if Saturn is situated in the 3rd-house, or if Saturn and the
3rd-lord are conjoined together, or if these two planets aspect each
other, then extreme patience and informal studies to an exceptional
extent are indicated. If the Ascendant-lord and the 3rd-lord are
involved in sign-exchange or nakshatra-exchange, or the Ascendant-
lord is situated in the 3rd-house, or the 3rd-lord is situated in the
Ascendant, then also the indications will be similar.

The very same 3rd-house also indicates personality, writing ability

and 'hand-writing'; the Sun can be taken as the natural significator
2

for these. If the 3rd-lord is situated in exaltation-sign or in own-sign

or in own-nakshatra, or natural benefic planet/s is/ are situated in the
3rd-house, or natural benefic planet/s aspect the 3rd-house, or if an
exalted planet is situated in the 3rd-house, or if the Sun is situated in
the 3rd-house, or if the Sun and the 3rd-lord are conjoined together,
or if these two planets aspect each other, then impressive
personality, exceptional writing ability and 'beautiful' handwriting are
indicated. If the Ascendant-lord and the 3rd-lord are involved in sign-
exchange or nakshatra-exchange, or the Ascendant-lord is situated in
the 3rd-house, or the 3rd-lord is situated in the Ascendant, then also
the indications will be similar.

SPECIAL ROLE OF THE ASCENDANT-LORD : The Ascendant-lord --

even if it is a natural malefic planet -- is the 'super-benefic' planet in
the chart. If the Ascendant-lord is situated in a sign or aspect it, then
the strength of the sign is increased; and if the Ascendant-lord is
conjoined with a planet or aspects it, then the strength of the planet
is increased. If the Ascendant-lord is situated in the 4th-house or the
5th-house, or if it aspects the 4th-house or the 5th-house, or if it is
conjoined with the 4th-lord or the 5th-lord, or if aspects the 4th-lord
or the 5th-lord, then it is a favorable indication for having very good
education.

CHECKING FOR "AFFLICTIONS" OF PLANETS : In general, if a

planet is debilitated or combust or eclipsed or retrograde or conjoined
with a natural malefic planet or a natural malefic planet aspects it,
then it is considered to be afflicted. But when we are specifically
considering the prospect of education, certain special points deserve
to be duly noted -- since many of these so-called 'affliction' may not
act as a hindering factor at all.

Debilitation : For education, except for the Moon, debilitation can

be ignored altogether. But if Moon is found to be debilitated, then the
native may not have good aptitude, or may not be endowed with
good proficiency -- particularly during the early age-period (till about
standard VIII or so); if other things are favorable, then proficiency
might become gradually improved up to a considerable extent --
beginning from around the indicated time-period.

Combustion : For education, combustion of Mercury is totally

ignored. A combust Mercury may and can rather give good proficiency
and aptitude for learning things. But the combustion of major planets
(Mars, Jupiter and Saturn) deserves to be noted with care -- since it
can adversely affect the prospect of having good education; it will be
more so if the combust planet becomes the lord of- or situated in- the
4th- or the 5th- or the 2nd- houses. The adverse effect of combustion
will be more if the Ascendant is Leo (since the combustion-causing
planet -- the Sun -- itself becomes the Ascendant-lord).
3

In case of combustion, the effect will definitely depend on the

longitudinal distance from the Sun. If the distance is not more than
1*, then the affliction is really very serious (as it indicates possible
serious health-affection, and surely indicates serious problem with
eye-sight); if the distance is more than 1* but not more than 3*20',
then also it is a hindering factor for education (and profession). If the
distance is more than 3*20', then the effect won't be much adverse.

'Eclipsed' condition (close to either Rahu or Ketu) : For want of a

better term, closeness to Rahu or Ketu had been termed as 'eclipsed'
condition. As usual, the effect is more if the Sun or the Moon gets
'eclipsed'. Mercury enjoys the complete exception -- as being in an
angular (kendra) house from Rahu, it gains strength. For the
remaining planets (Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn), it is only a
minor hindering factor; however, this is dependent on the longitudinal
distance (from Rahu or Ketu) -- the affliction is very serious if the
distance is not more than 1*; and if the distance is more than 1* but
within 3*20', then also things might be pretty bad.

If the distance (from Rahu or Ketu) is 6* or more, then the adverse

influence of conjunction with Rahu or Ketu can be ignored altogether.

Retrogression : For education, except for the Venus, retrogression

is rather beneficial; if an education-related planet is retrograde, then
it can be taken as a source of strength. If Mercury is retrograde, then
the person becomes clever and very practical; if Mars is retrograde,
then the person becomes ambitious and is endowed with a sense of
pride (which is indirectly an encouraging factor for having good for
education); if Jupiter is retrograde, then although the person may
have lopsided views and is very much money-minded, he/ she
possesses excellent knowledge in grammar, language and literature;
if Saturn* is retrograde, then the person is endowed with
concentration and he/ she is very much likely to acquire good
command in languages other than mother-tongue, including 'foreign'
languages (like English, French, German, etc) -- both spoken and
written.

However, if Saturn* is retrograde, we have got to look for the

presence of the modifying influences in the chart as it may and can
give temporary- or permanent- "break" in education. If Saturn is
strong (exalted or in own-house or in own-nakshatra), then the
"break" in education is likely to be temporary and it may result owing
to change of circumstances, or for some undesired constraints; but if
Saturn is not strong, or if in spite of being strong it is much afflicted,
then the "break" may be permanent and/ or it may result owing to
lack of proficiency or failure in qualifying examination (which may
even be admission test or preliminary screening).
4

If Venus is not strong (i.e., not in exaltation, or in own-sign, or in

own-nakshatra), and if it is retrograde, then we have to check
whether some modifying influences are operating in the chart;
otherwise, with the onset of adolescence, the person may develop
unusual interest in matters concerning the 'other' gender -- which
may and can adversely affect academic proficiency, and in turn may
mar the prospect of having higher education.

Conjunction with (or aspected by) natural malefic planets :

(a) Conjunction with (or aspected by) the Ascendant-lord : As

mentioned earlier, even if the Ascendant-lord is a natural malefic, it is
functionally a 'super-benefic'. So, conjunction with the Ascendant-lord
will be very beneficial for education.

(b) Conjunction with (or aspected by) a "yoga-karaka" planet

(natural- or temporal-) : If the natural malefic planet is a natural-
or temporal- 'yoga-karaka' planet, then it's conjunction with- or
aspect to- any education-related planet will only have desirable- and
beneficial- influences.

(c) Conjunction with Rahu : Except for the Moon, conjunction of

Rahu is quite beneficial; if the Moon is situated in close conjunction
with Rahu, then the person's thinking might become confused --
which is not at all desirable for having good education. As Rahu
signifies 'intution' (or capacity to conclude without much of thinking)
and also 'desire' for having the best things of life, Rahu's conjunction
with any education-related planet will make him/ her aspire for good
education -- so that he/ she can become quite 'respectable' in society
by dint of his/ her educational accomplishments.

(d) Conjunction with Ketu : Ketu is the significator for Computer-

education. If Mercury is strong (in exaltation, or in own-sign, or in
own-nakshatra), and if it is situated in an education-related house
(the 4th, 5th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th or 11th), while Ketu is also placed in
any of such houses, then the person can look forward to acquiring
good proficiency in Computer operations -- which has been becoming
increasingly popular now-a-days.

However, Ketu's close conjunction with Saturn is not very desirable. If

modifying influences are not found to be present in the chart, then it
indicates the possibility of having serious family-problems, or
probable loss of some close relation/s by untimely demise or
separation, and/ or acute financial constraints during sometime in life
-- which may become a hindering factor, and may become the root-
cause for having either temporary- or permanent- "break" in
education.
5

IMPORTANCE OF THE 4th & THE 5th HOUSES : The 4th-house

indicates general education, whereas the 5th-house indicates
intellect, memory and merit. The natural significator for both the
houses is Mercury. The planets situated in either or both of these two
houses (if any), and the planets aspecting either- or both- of these
two houses (if any) have much of bearing on the prospect of
education. The sign-position, house-position, etc conditions of the
4th-lord and the 5th-lord have also to be taken into account.

If the 4th-lord is situated in exaltation sign or in own-sign or in own

nakshatra, or one or more natural benefic planet/s is/ are situated in
the 4th-house, or natural benefic planet/s aspect the 4th-house, or if
an exalted planet is situated in the 4th-house, or if Mercury is
situated in the 4th-house, or if Mercury and the 4th-lord are
conjoined together, or if these two planets aspect each other, then it
can very safely be concluded that the person will have good
education.

If the 5th-lord is situated in exaltation sign or in own-sign or in own

nakshatra, or one or more natural benefic planet(s) is/ are situated in
the 5th-house, or natural benefic planet(s) is/ are aspecting the 5th-
house, or if an exalted planet is situated in the 5th-house, or if
Mercury is situated in the 5th-house, or if Mercury and the 5th-lord
are conjoined together, or if these two planets aspect each other,
then also it can very safely be concluded that the person will have
good education.

INTER-RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE ANGULAR- & TRINAL-

LORDS : Any connection between the 4th-house (or 4th-lord) and
the 5th-house (or 5th-lord) gives 'application-oriented' or professional
education; like engineering, technology, medicine, accountancy, law,
etc. Thus, if the 4th-lord and the 5th-lord are involved in sign-
exchange or nakshatra-exchange, or if these two lords are conjoined
together, or if they aspect each other -- while Mercury is also strong
-- then 'application-oriented' or professional education may and can
be expected.

Besides Ascendant and the 4th, there are other angular (kendra)
houses -- the 7th and the 10th. And, besides the 5th, the 9th is also
a trinal (trikona) house. Any exchange or one-way relationship
between the lord of an angular house in a trinal house, or vice versa,
is also a very favorable indication for having good education. The
connection involving the 5th- (house or lord) generally gives
'application-oriented' education; if the connection involves the 7th,
then it may have some connection with business or law; if the
connection involves the 9th, then it may give higher education, and/
or it may have some connection with medical education.
6

IMPORTANCE OF THE 8th, 9th & 12th HOUSES : HIGHER

EDUCATION & RESEARCH :

IMPORTANCE OF THE 9th HOUSE : The 9th-house (and 9th-lord)

indicates higher education/ qualification (general post-graduation,
higher professional education, 'formal' research*, etc). Jupiter is the
significator for wisdom; as such, it is considered to be a natural
significator for higher education.

If the 4th-lord is situated in the 9th-house, or if the 9th-lord is

situated in the 4th-house, or if these two lords are conjoined
together, or these two lords aspect each other, then the person will
have higher education/ professional education, in which connection
he/ she may have to go to a distant- (or even foreign-) place.

If the 5th-lord is situated in the 9th-house, or if the 9th-lord is

situated in the 5th-house, or if these two lords are conjoined
together, or these two lords aspect each other, then the person will
have higher education/ professional education; he/ she may secure a
professional qualification from a foreign institute of repute and/ or
through a correspondence course.

IMPORTANCE OF THE 12th HOUSE : However, serious research*

(or 'real search' -- which might be informal studies continued for a
very long duration) comes under the governance of the 12th-house
(and 12th-lord). Here, Saturn may be taken as a co-significator; this
is in addition to the general significator Mercury and special
significator Jupiter. If Saturn is situated in the 12th-house or aspects
it, while the 4th-lord or the 9th-lord is also situated in the same
house or aspects it, then it is a favorable indication : the person will
continue his/ her informal studies for a very long duration, and will
probably come out with some special findings or observations of your
own.

As the 12th happens to be the 4th from the 9th (or the 9th from the
4th), it signifies temporary shifting of residence in connection with
education. If education-related planets are inter-related with the
12th-house, then the person may go to a distant inland place (or
even a foreign country) in connection with education. If the lord of
the 4th- or the 5th- or the 9th- is situated in the 12th-house, or if the
12th-lord is situated in any of these houses (the 4th- or the 5th- or
the 9th-), then the person may have to go to a distant place and stay
there for a long duration in connection with higher education/
professional education. Alternately, even if you do not go to a distant
place, there are chances that you may have to stay in a school/
college/ university hostel/ boarding house.

IMPORTANCE OF THE 8th HOUSE : The 8th-house has governance

over untoward happenings, accidental mishaps, death, mysteries,
7

forensic studies, mystique and occult subjects (like Astrology, etc). If

the 8th-house or the 8th-lord becomes related to the 4th-house or
4th-lord or the 5th-house or 5th-lord, the 5th-house is well-disposed,
and Mercury is also strong, then a person may have advance studies
and conduct researches in the fields of mystique and occult subjects
like Astrology. A strong Mars in relation to the 8th-house may give
informal studies and/ or higher education in connection with crimes
and criminal- psychology, behavior, proceedings, laws, clauses,
terms, etc and/ or also about detective investigation, forensic
procedures, etc.

IMPORTANCE OF THE NATURAL SIGNIFICATOR PLANET

(MERCURY) :

The natural significator for education -- formal and informal, general

and professional -- is the planet Mercury. So, we must look for the
sign-position, house-position, etc conditions* of Mercury in the chart.
If Mercury is situated in exaltation sign or in own-sign or in own-
nakshatra, then Mercury is deemed to be strong.

IMPORTANCE OF BHINNA-ASHTAKAVARGA OF MERCURY : The

Bhinna-Ashtakavarga strength of Mercury in it's placement in the
chart, and also in all the houses -- most of which are either directly-
or indirectly- related to education and/ or information in some way or
other -- may and can offer some vital and very useful information not
only regarding the prospect of education but also about the possible
areas of interest. Not only in it's own placement sign, but also in the
other signs (corresponding to various houses), if the number of
benefic dots in Mercury's Bhinna-Ashtakavarga is found to be 7 or 8,
definitely it is a source of strength; the beneficial results which will
accrue will have to be interpreted from the significations of the
concerned house, wherein it is found.

IMPORTANCE OF THE 10th HOUSE : The 10th-house and the

10th-lord rules over "Knowledge", which would find effective
utilization in the person's profession. If the 10th-house or the 10th-
lord has any connection with the 4th-house or 4th-lord or the 5th-
house or 5th-lord -- that is, if the 10th-lord is conjoined with- or
aspected by- the 4th-lord, or if the 10th-lord is conjoined with- or
aspected by- the 5th-lord, or if the 10th-lord is situated in the
nakshatra of the 5th-lord or a planet situated in the 5th-house, or if
the 10th-lord is situated in the nakshatra of the 4th-lord or a planet
situated in the 4th-house, then it may safely concluded that the
person will have good education and informal studies as well -- which
will have effective utilization in his/ her profession throughout his/ her
working life.

CONSIDERATIONS FROM THE DIVISIONAL CHART

"CHATURVIMSHAMSHA" : Chaturvimshamsha (or D-24) is the
8

divisional chart, which is given importance for judging the quality-

and extent- of education. Every divisional chart has it's own
significator (or karaka) -- whose sign-position, house-position,
essential dignity (that is, if exalted or in own-sign), it's association,
etc -- all in the same D-24 divisional chart is carefully considered.

The situation of planets in the various education-related houses (2nd

= Aptitude, proficiency; 3rd = Skill of writing, informal studies; 4th =
General education (graduation degree/ diploma); 5th = Intelligence,
memory, merit; 9th = Higher education (Post-graduation/
professional qualification; 10th = Knowledge; 11th = Realization of
the object in view) are to be noted carefully.

Mercury's situation in movable (chara) signs in the D-24 chart

indicates that the person will be capable of thinking very fast and
arrive at conclusions almost instantly. The situation of Mars in any
sign of Mercury (Gemini or Virgo) further enhances it.

The situation of the 4th-lord -- of the natal chart -- if situated in any

sign of Mercury (Gemini or Virgo) indicates the possibility of having
good education (graduation degree/ diploma). Similarly the situation
of the 9th-lord -- again of the natal chart -- if situated in any sign of
Mercury (Gemini or Virgo) indicates the possibility of having higher
education (post-graduation/ professional qualification).

As is customarily considered in natal charts, in D-24 chart also, if the

lord of an angular (kendra) house is situated in a trinal (trikona)
house, or vice-versa, or if one angular lord is conjoined with one
trinal lord, then it indicates a fair degree of possibility that the person
will have education in an "application-oriented" field; engineering or
technology may have some chance.

Special role of the planet (if any) situated in the 11th-house in the D-
24 chart : Planets situated in the 11th-house in the D-24 chart are
important. If there is a natural benefic planet is situated in the 11th-
house in the D-24 chart, good education is assured. If Jupiter or
Venus or Mercury is situated in the 11th-house in the D-24 chart, the
person is very much likely to acquire an educational/ professional
qualification from a highly reputed and prestigious institution.

If in the Chaturvimshamsha (D-24) chart, a planet is found to be

situated in the 11th from the Ascendant, then the person is very
much likely to acquire an educational-/ professional- qualification
from a highly reputed and prestigious institution. It's additional
indication in respect of the stream of education might be concluded
accordingly as given under :
9

Jupiter : It is possible that your education might have some

connection with the fields like finance, accountancy, law, education,
religion, etc.

Venus : It is possible that your education might have some

connection with the fields like engineering, business management,
optics, fashion-design, etc.

Mercury : It is possible that your education might have some

connection with the fields like science, technology, journalism,
commerce, foreign trade, etc.

Mars : It is possible that your education might have some connection

with the fields like metallurgy, chemicals, architecture, surgery,
dentistry, hotel management, etc.

Saturn : It is possible that your education might have some

connection with the fields like agriculture, geology, geophysics,
mining, industry, actuary, etc.

Moon : It is possible that your education might be in general stream;

although medicine or pharmacy also has some chance. (but in respect
of your profession, you may have connection with the general public.)

Sun : It is possible that your education might be in general stream;

(but in respect of your profession, you may have connection with the
senior officials of various government departments.)

SPECIAL NOTE for Astrology learners and interested readers (in

respect of divisional chart, D-24) :

It is to be carefully remembered that since the D-24 divisional chart is

a highly "magnified" (24 times) chart, high degree of accuracy of the
time of birth is a very crucial factor. It can be well understood as the
Ascendant in the D-24 chart changes sign within about 5 minutes of
time! So, if someone's furnished time of birth is expected to be
accurate within about 15 minutes of time on either side, then it will
obviously be manifestly absurd to check the house-positions in D-24
chart at all.

And, even if the furnished time of birth is believed to be very

accurate, then also we should check whether the Ascendant's
krishamsha (i.e., longitude bereft of sign falls anywhere close to 0*,
or 1*15' or it's multiples. This is because, in such cases, the position
can as well be shifted to an adjacent sign (previous or next as the
case may be) instead, and the entire "picture" could be capable of
being changed altogether.
10

It is to be clearly borne in mind that the planetary "aspects" are not

considered in the divisional charts.

Above all, undue emphasis should not be laid on the divisional charts
(including this D-24). This is for the simple reason that -- after all --
the divisional charts are not the factual "astronomical" picture of the
heavens; and their significations are considered to be "symbolic"
only.

IMPORTANCE OF THE BHINNA-ASTAKAVARGA STRENGTH (OF

BENEFIC PLANETS) : The natural benefic planets are : Jupiter,
Venus, Mercury and the (waxing) Moon. Besides these, the
Ascendant-lord, the natural "yoga-karaka" planet (if any), the
temporal "yoga-karaka" planet (if any), any planet is in exaltation, in
own-sign or in own-nakshatra (if any), then -- even if these are
natural malefic -- they are to be considered as to be circumstantially
"benefic" planets -- for the purpose of judging the prospect of
education.

We have got to check the individual contribution of benefic dots of

these planets in the various house-signs (all of which somehow
become connected with education -- either directly or indirectly). If
the cumulative contribution of the benefic dots are found to be fairly-
to really- good in at least two of the main education-related house-
signs (the 2nd-, the 4th-, the 5th- and the 9th-), it goes without
saying that the person will surely acquire good- to excellent-
education.

If in the Ascendant, the total number of benefic dots (contributed by

the planets favorably disposed for education) is found to be very
good, then it will make the person intelligent, suave and alert -- in
respect of gathering useful information, and he/ she will be capable of
putting them into use in an effective way and purposeful manner.

If in the 2nd-house, the total number of benefic dots (contributed by

the planets favorably disposed for education) is found to be very
good, then the person will be endowed with good aptitude and
academic proficiency; he/ she will possess the gift of eloquence and
will be very dependable in respect of monetary transactions.

If in the 3rd-house, the total number of benefic dots (contributed by

the planets favorably disposed for education) is found to be very
good, then the person will be endowed with exceptional writing
ability; he/ she will be very efficient in respect of handling
correspondence/ communications and dealing with ever-changing lot
of information about the latest developments.

If in the 4th-house, the total number of benefic dots (contributed by

the planets favorably disposed for education) is found to be very
11

good, then it is a highly fortunate combination, and the person will be

very fortunate in respect of having a good level of education.

If in the 5th-house, the total number of benefic dots (contributed by

the planets favorably disposed for education) is found to be very
good, then the person will be endowed with sharp intelligence and
retentive memory. He/ she will be fortunate in respect of having a
good level of education, which might be in an application-oriented
field. You might have some interest in- and good knowledge of-
speculative investments (as in shares, etc).

If in the 6th-house, the total number of benefic dots (contributed by

the planets favorably disposed for education) is found to be very
good, then if the person has the inclination, then he/ she may acquire
considerable knowledge and information about diseases/ medicines
by having formal or informal studies. (Even if he/ she does not
become a qualified medical practitioner, his/ her profession or hobby
may have some connection with medicines.)

If in the 7th-house, the total number of benefic dots (contributed by

the planets favorably disposed for education) is found to be very
good, then the person will be endowed with sharp intelligence, ready
wit and a good sense of humor. His/ her business sense will be quite
well developed and he/ she will be very successful in public dealings.

If in the 8th-house, the total number of benefic dots (contributed by

the planets favorably disposed for education) is found to be very
good, then the person are very much likely to have much of interest
in the occult and mystique subjects (like Astrology, Palmistry,
Numerology, etc).

If in the 9th-house, the total number of benefic dots (contributed by

the planets favorably disposed for education) is found to be very
good, then the person is very much likely to have higher education; it
appears entirely possible that he/ she may successfully complete
some professional course for enhancing his/ her worth.

If in the 10th-house, the total number of benefic dots (contributed by

the planets favorably disposed for education) is found to be very
good, then it is a highly favorable combination; the person is very
much likely to gather in-depth knowledge and useful information
about the latest technological developments, which he/ she would
effectively utilize in your area of profession.

If in the 11th-house, the total number of benefic dots (contributed by

the planets favorably disposed for education) is found to be very
good, then it is a favorable combination; the person will have deep
interest in a diverse range of subjects, in which he/ she will gather
knowledge and information. This will help him/ her to become the
12

center of attraction in the circle of his/ her friends and acquaintances,

who will value his/ her opinions and occasionally look forward to him/
her for advice.

If in the 12th-house, the total number of benefic dots (contributed by

the planets favorably disposed for education) is found to be very
good, then the person will have deep interest in some subject of
special interest and will continue your informal studies for a very long
duration; he/ she may probably come up with some special findings
or observations of his/ her own.

CHECKING FROM EXCHANGE OF PLANETARY "TERMS" :

Egyptian "planetary terms" are relatively more popularly used, and
these appear to be more reliable. The "terms" are certain longitudinal
sections in every sign, somewhat differing from sign to sign. These
are similar to "Hadda-Chakra" originally used in Varshaphala charts of
Tajaka-system. These are also used in Western Astrology --
particularly in Horary charts; some more open-minded experimenters
have used them in natal charts also, and reported as having
successfully obtained some notable results. The five 'tara'-grahas
(Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus and Saturn) can become the term-
lords; but the Sun and the Moon cannot.

When a pair of planets are situated in each other's "term", they

behave as if they are influencing each other, and the qualitative
characteristics which are in common to both seem to become more
pronounced. The exchange of planetary "terms" are considered for
ascertaining the person's inclinations and interest. However, for
obtaining beneficial results, it is a pre-requisite that Mercury should
be strong (in exaltation or in own-sign or in own-nakshatra) and/ or
well-placed in the chart.

Mars and Saturn both are pronouncedly "technical" planets, and both
of them are chiefly concerned with the usefulness in practical fields of
application. As such, if Mars and Saturn are involved in "term"-
exchange, it indicates that the person will have much of interest for
studying "application-oriented" subjects like Engineering or
Technology. He/ she may also easily acquire considerable expertise in
various kinds of advanced Computer applications.

Mercury is the planet of intelligence and education, where Jupiter is

the natural significator for wisdom, prudence, growth and abundance.
As such, if Mercury and Jupiter are involved in "term"-exchange, it
indicates that the person will have much of interest for studying
language and literature. He/ she is very much likely to have extra-
ordinary writing ability; it also appears quite probable that he/ she
may be a contributor in some journals, or even may become an
author.
13

Mercury is the planet of intelligence and education, where Venus is

the natural significator for culture, refinement and fine arts. As such,
if Mercury and Venus are involved in "term"-exchange, it indicates
that the person will have much of interest for studying language and
literature. He/ she is very much likely to have artistic inclinations in a
profound degree, or you may be greatly interested in photography.
(Your profession or hobby may have some connection with some field
of fine arts, or the camera.)

Similarly, Jupiter stands for justness and righteousness, whereas

Venus signifies perfect order, balance and harmony; both the planets
are significators for affluence as well. As such, if Jupiter and Venus
are involved in "term"-exchange, it indicates that the person will have
keen interest for studying law or finance-management. (Alternately,
you might be overly occupied with the affairs of running a brisk
business of your own -- which will keep you amidst plenty and
abundance.)

The Sun and the Moon are political planets. They are the significators
for authority and power by virtue of being heirs. If the Sun and the
Moon are involved in "term"-exchange, it indicates that the person is
very much likely to have high aspirations, and prepare himself/
herself for successfully competing in the examinations for the top-
notch administrative service.

The Sun and Mars both signify such distinguished people, who are in
a position to exercise punishment power. If the Sun and Mars are
involved in "term"-exchange, it indicates that person is very much
likely to have high aspirations, and prepare himself/ herself for
occupying senior and powerful positions. The field of active politics,
defence or police establishments, etc may attract him/ her;
alternately, it might be surgery.

DETERMINING VARIOUS STREAMS OF EDUCATION

:MEDICINE/ SURGERY/ PHARMACY : As usual, since 'Medicine' is
an application-oriented field, there must at first be some inter-
relationship with the 4th- and 5th- houses and/ or their lords (or such
a relationship should be found between any other angular and trinal
houses). The Ascendant-lord situated in the 9th or the 9th-lord
situated in the Ascendant, or if these two lords are conjoined together
or aspect each other, then it may and can induce the interest in the
native's mind for studying medicine.

The Moon denotes medicines; so the Moon should have some

connection with the 4th- or 5th- or 9th- or 10th- houses (and/ or the
respective lords). Since the 6th-house indicates the 'disease', and the
11th-house indicates the 'cure', if the 4th-house and/ or it's lord is/
are connected with the 6th-house or the 6th-lord or the 11th-house
or the 11th-lord, then a person is very much likely to be interested to
14

study medicine. The 8th-house indicates accidental mishaps, serious

injuries, danger to life, etc. So, the connection of the 8th-house and/
or 8th-lord may take one to Surgery.

Since the purpose of studying medicine is for saving life, the

significator for life -- Jupiter -- should be well-placed, and should be
free from serious affliction. However, if Jupiter is debilitated, and it is
in close conjunction with Mars (exalted) or Saturn (own-sign) , then it
may rather be an advantageous factor for studying medicine. But if
Jupiter is situated very close to Sun (that is, becoming badly
combust), then it is very much likely to be a handicap.

Since good academic proficiency is a pre-requisite, Mercury should be

well-placed and/ or the 4th-house (or the 5th-house) should be
strong (that is, the lord of the house-sign should be in exaltation or in
own-sign or in own-nakshatra; or a planet having similar strength
should remain in the house). As the course requires clearing an
entrance examination, the presence of a natural malefic planet in the
6th (or in the 3rd or in the 11th) will be very desired. If good
academic proficiency and/ or capacity to successfully clear the
competitive entrance examination are/ is not indicated in the chart,
then it can take one to the next level -- like Pharmacy.

The close conjunction of the Sun and Ketu are often found in the
charts of medical men. If the Sun is stronger than Mars, then the
stream may be medicine proper; but if Mars is a stronger and if it is
found to exert more influences, then the native may take up Surgery.
The close conjunction of Rahu takes one to Anesthesia. Similarly
placed Saturn may take one to orthopedics or pathology. The
modifying influences of various planets and also those of various
signs will have to be checked for the purpose of ascertaining the
probable specific areas of specialization.

ENGINEERING/ TECHNOLOGY : As usual, since 'Engineering/

Technology' are application-oriented fields, there must at first be
some inter-relationship with the 4th- and 5th- houses and/ or their
lords (or such a relationship should be found between any other
angular and trinal houses). The combined influence of Mars and
Saturn leads one to study of Engineering and/ or Technology. As
such, the combinations can be : (i) Mars and Saturn conjoined
together, or (ii) Mars aspecting Saturn, or (iii) Saturn aspecting Mars.

If Mars is exalted or debilitated, and is in conjunction with Saturn, the

possibility of Engineering becomes more in comparison; if Mars
aspects Saturn, then also it induces the inclination of taking up the
study of Engineering. If Venus is in exaltation or in own-sign or in
own-nakshatra, or is conjoined with or aspected by Jupiter, then the
chances of taking up Engineering is considerably increased.
15

Similarly, if Saturn is exalted or debilitated, and is in conjunction with

Mars, the possibility of Technology becomes more in comparison; if
Saturn aspects Mars, then also it induces the inclination of taking up
the study of Technology. If Venus is neither in exaltation nor in own-
sign nor in own-nakshatra, and is conjoined with or aspected by
Saturn, then the chances of taking up Technology is considerably
increased.

COMPUTER EDUCATION : The strength of Mercury is the prime

indicator; if Mercury is in exaltation or in own-sign or in own-
nakshatra, and it is situated in the 4th- or 5th- or 8th- or 9th- or
10th- or 11th- houses, then it will be an asset. Ketu is the co-
significator. If Ketu situated in sign Scorpio or in own-nakshatra, or is
situated in any of the above-mentioned houses (4th- or 5th- or 8th-
or 9th- or 10th- or 11th-), then it will be an added advantage.

Mars is the significator for "Programming". If Mars is situated in

exaltation or in own-sign or in own-nakshatra, or is situated in any of
the above-mentioned houses (4th- or 5th- or 8th- or 9th- or 10th- or
11th-), or is situated in the Ascendant, then one may and can
become a good programmer.

Venus is the significator for "Graphic Design". If Venus is situated in

exaltation or in own-sign or in own-nakshatra, or is situated in any of
the above-mentioned houses (4th- or 5th- or 8th- or 9th- or 10th- or
11th-), or is situated in the Ascendant, then one may and can be a
good graphic designer.

If the 8th-lord is situated in the Ascendant or the 10th-house or the

5th-house, or aspects any of these houses, or is conjoined with the
lord of any of these houses, then the person is very much likely to
have some connection with programming and designing of software
related to subjects like Astrology.

SCIENCE SUBJECTS : The third- and the sixth- houses denote the
science subjects, and the natural malefic planets Mars, Saturn and
Rahu are the significators. Of course, at least one of these should
preferably have some connection with Mercury -- which is the natural
significator for general education. Out of Mars and Saturn, if one is
the influencing planet -- that is, the planet is the the 3rd-lord or the
6th-lord, or is situated in the 3rd-house or in the 6th-house, while the
other is the lord of the 4th-lord or the 5th-lord or is placed in the 4th-
house or the 5th-house, and both are influencing each other by
conjunction or aspect, or one of them is influencing the other by
aspect while the other is influencing the 3rd-lord or the 6th-lord by
conjunction or aspect, then study of Science subjects are indicated.

Saturn denotes Physics, Mars denotes Chemistry, while Mercury

denotes Mathematics. If Saturn is stronger, or is influencing Mercury
16

by conjunction or aspect, then stress is laid more on Physics; if Mars

is stronger, or is influencing Mercury by conjunction or aspect, then
stress is laid more on Chemistry; if Neither of these two planets
(Saturn and Mars) influences Mercury, then stress might be laid more
on Mathematics. Rahu denotes poisonous chemicals; as such, if Rahu
is in the 4th-house or in the 5th-house or is connected with the 4th-
lord or the 5th-lord or with Mars, then possibility of having higher
study in Chemistry becomes more. If the influence of Saturn is
absent, but that of Jupiter is present, then there is possibility of
studying Bio-Science (Zoology and Botany).

ARTS SUBJECTS : Mercury and Venus, are the significator planets

for Arts Subjects; to some extent, the Moon is also so. If one of these
two planets (Mercury or Venus) becomes the lord of the 4th-, or 5th-,
or 9th- or 10th- house, while another of these two is situated in any
of these houses will impart much of interest in Arts Subjects. If Venus
is situated in the 4th- or 5th- or 10th- house, and is conjoined with-
or involved in sign-exchange or nakshatra-exchange or term-
exchange with any natural benefic planet (Mercury or Moon or
Jupiter), then also there will be great interest in studying Arts
Subjects. If Mercury and Venus are conjoined together, or if Mercury
is in conjunction with the Moon, or if Venus is in conjunction with the
Moon, then also some special interest in Arts Subjects is signified.

LANGUAGE/ LITERATURE : Mercury and Jupiter are the significator

planets for Language and Literature. If one of these two planets
becomes the lord of the 4th-, or 5th-, or 9th- or 10th- house, while
another of these two is situated in any of these houses will impart
much of interest in Language and Literature. If Jupiter is situated in
the 4th- or 5th- or 10th- house, and is conjoined with- or involved in
sign-exchange or nakshatra-exchange or term- exchange with any
natural benefic planet (Mercury or Moon or Venus), then also there
will be great interest in studying Language/ Lterature. If Mercury and
Jupiter are conjoined together, or if Mercury is in conjunction with the
Moon, then also some special interest in Language/ Literature is
signified.

LAW : The sign Libra denotes the Law-Court, and the natural
significators are Venus and Jupiter. If either of these two planets are
the lord of 4th-, or 5th-, or 9th-, or 10th- house, or is situated in any
of these houses, while these two planets are in conjunction, or
opposition, or in mutually 6/ 8 position, then the person might be
interested in studying Law.

The mutual sign-exchange, or nakshatra-exchange between Jupiter

and Venus gives much of interest in studying Law. If such mutual
exchange is found between the 5th-lord and the 7th-lord, or between
the 5th-lord and the 10th-lord, or between the 7th-lord and the 10th-
17

lord, then also the person might be grossly interested in studying

Law.

If the 6th-lord or the 8th-lord is situated in own-house, or either of

these two lords is involved in sign-exchange or nakshatra-exchange
with any other planet, then also there might be some interest in
studying Law. If in this combination, Mars or Venus becomes the 6th-
lord, or either of these two planets is situated in the 6th-house, then
there could be some connection with Civil Law-suits; but if in this
combination, Mars or Venus becomes the 8th-lord instead, or either
of these two planets is situated in the 8th-house, then there could be
some connection with Crime and/ or Criminal proceedings.

If the Sun or Saturn is in opposition with Mars, or if either of these

two planets are involved in "square" aspect with Mars, then there
could be some interest in studying Law, or for gathering information
about legal matters -- as the person may face law-suit in connection
with Property-Matters. If the 11th-lord is situated in the 4th-house, or
if the 4th-lord is situated in the 11th-house, while a natural malefic
planet is also situated in the 4th-house (or in the 11th-house), then
also the indications could be quite similar in nature.

If the 7th-lord and the 8th-lord are involved in sign-exchange or

nakshatra-exchange, then there is some possibility of having legal
problems with marriage-partner, or business-partner, or the
marriage-partner of the second child. If Rahu and Ketu are involved
in nakshatra-exchange, then also the indications might be similar.

COMMERCE SUBJECTS : Mercury denotes transaction (and

accounting) and the Moon denotes public connections. Any of these
two planets situated in the 7th-house, while the other is having
relationship with any of the major education- or profession- related
houses (the 4th-, or the 5th- or the 10th-) may take one to
commerce. The conjunction of the Moon and Mercury in any of these
houses, or if one is situated while the other is aspecting, then also the
native may be interested in commerce subjects. If Jupiter or Venus is
also involved, then it confers comparatively higher rank and status.
But if Saturn is involved instead, then the education leads one to a
job, which involves responsibility and subordination -- with less
remuneration.

ACCOUNTANCY : More commonly, the sign Virgo (and less

commonly, the sign Gemini) is found to be important in the charts of
Accountants; since the profession involves the connection with pen-
and-paper, it's natural significator is Mercury. Jupiter or Venus (as
they are the planets of abundance) is often connected with either of
these signs or with their lord Mercury -- by conjunction or aspect.
These planets should also certain inter-connection with the main
education- or profession- related houses (the 4th-, or the 5th-, or the
18

10th-). Since Accountancy is also an application-oriented field, some

sort of inter-relationship between the angular- (kendra) and trinal-
(trikona) houses will be a very advantageous and supporting factor.
But as the job involves more of responsibilty, and less of authority,
Saturn's influence is frequently found to be present, and that of Mars
is more often found to be absent.

AGRICULTURE : The signs Cancer and Aquarius, and the planets

Moon and Saturn have much to do with Agriculture. If Saturn and
Moon are in conjunction in sign Aquarius, then a possibility is
indicated. Earthy signs Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn are also found to
have some connection pretty often; any of these signs or their lords
becoming inter-connected by conjunction or aspect, and also having
certain inter-connection with the main education- or profession-
related houses (the 4th-, or the 5th-, or the 10th-). Since Agriculture
is also an application-oriented field, some sort of inter-relationship
between the angular- (kendra) and trinal- (trikona) houses will be a
very advantageous and supporting factor.

ASTROLOGY : Mercury is the natural significator; it should be strong

(i.e., in exaltation, or in own-sign, or in own-nakshatra); it should
also be conjoined with- or in involved in mutual aspect with the 8th-
lord -- as Astrology is signified mainly by the 8th-house. The 5th-
house should be strong; the 5th-lord should be situated in the 5th-
house, or aspecting the same. The connection of Rahu or Ketu with
the planet Mercury, and with these houses (the 5th-house or the 8th-
house) and/ or their lords (the 5th-lord and the 8th-lord) is very
desirable.

The BAV-strength of Mercury in it's own placement-sign in it's own

BAV (>= 4 dots) is advantageous. If Ketu is situated in the 5th-house
or aspects it, it is conjoined with Mercury or the 5th-lord or the 8th-
lord, and in Mercury's BAV, it obtains at least 3 dots in it's placement-
sign, the combination may be said to be complete; these will make
the ground ready in all respects for making one an Astrologer.

If Jupiter is situated in the 10th-house, conjoined with the 2nd-lord or

the Moon, or aspecting the 2nd-lord or the Moon, then one can
acquire great proficiency in Astrology. As Saturn is the significator for
patience, perseverance, concentration, etc, Saturn's conjunction with
Jupiter or the Moon or the 2nd-lord, or it's aspect falling on any of
them may not at all be an unwelcome factor; it may rather be
favourable for improving the propensities. If in the above
combination, Jupiter is the 2nd-lord itself, then it will make the
person a great speaker, who will receive invitation from the
dignitaries for giving lectures in assemblies.

If Mercury is strong (i.e., in exaltation, or in own-sign, or in own-

nakshatra), or is situated in the 4th-house or the 5th-house (or
19

aspects any of these two houses), while the 8th-lord is situated in the
Ascendant or aspects it, then the person will have considerable
interest in Astrology -- at least during sometime in his/ her life.

If Mercury is strong (i.e., in exaltation, or in own-sign, or in own-

nakshatra), or is situated in the 4th-house or the 5th-house (or
aspects any of these two houses); and if the 8th-lord is situated in
the 10th-house or aspects it, or is conjoined with the 10th-lord or
involved in mutual aspect with it, then during sometime in his/ her
life, then the person might be grossly interested in Astrology in
connection with his/ her profession.

Astrology being an typical and uncommon subject, it comes under the

governance of Uranus. If Uranus is in close conjunction with the
Mercury or the 10th-lord or the 5th-lord, or situated in the sign of
Mercury or the 10th-lord or the 5th-lord, or situated in the nakshatra
of Mercury or the 10th-lord or the 5th-lord, then the person might be
grossly interested in Astrology, take up the study of this subject very
seriously, and even take up the stream as his/ her main line of
profession. He/ she switch over to this field between age 35 and age
49 -- when Uranus in transit will be crossing over the 7th- and the
8th-house from it's own placement.
