Centre for Alternative Technology 2009 – To date
Completed the MSc course - “Renewable Energy in the Built Environment”.
The modular course held at C.A.T. covered:
Solar PV, Solar Thermal, Small Scale Wind, Hydro, Biomass and Building Related Issues.
Familiar with software packages Tsol, PVsyst & HydrA/Lowflow2000. Completed Thesis
within deadline which was based on an experiment investigating the extents and impact of a
specific micro heat loss mechanism from DHW cylinders.

HSBC 1997 - 2009


2005 to 2009: Emergency I.T. trouble shooter providing highly technical live support to
HSBC’s major banking systems. Part of a small team, often working under high pressure and
tight timescales to ensure extremely high value 24/7 I.T. systems remained operational. This
included nightshifts as well as evening and weekend working. Supervisory roles: Team
Leader on the departments Support Help Desk and occasional Shift Team Leader responsible
for the overnight team.

1997 – 2005: Secured a place on the graduate trainee programme then worked as a
mainframe programmer on various large development projects, predominantly HSBC’s
Internet Banking system. Highly Experienced on IBM platform OS/390 with COBOL, CICS,
DB2. Also experienced on AS400 platform with CL and RPG language skills.

Interests
 Renewable Energy. Member of the newly formed Peak Hydro Forum. Involved in a
couple of Hydropower feasibility studies, one of which contributed to the Friends of
the Peak District’s ‘Peak Power’ report. Also completed a number of feasibility
studies during the MSc for PV, small scale wind and biomass heating systems.
 Thermography – Own a Flir Thermal Imaging Camera.
 Environment – Awarded place on HSBC/Earthwatch Alaskan Glaciers Expedition
assisting a Research team for 2 weeks surveying on the Bearing Glacier.
 Caving - Secretary of the Eldon Pothole Club. Helped organise and participated in a
very successful expedition to ‘The Accursed Mountains’ in Northern Albania in 2010.
Weekend job at school was as a tour guide at Treak Cliff Cavern in Castleton.
 Climbing – Over 20 years experience. Gap year was predominantly spent rock
climbing in the UK, France & Spain.
 D.I.Y. – Recently installed a Rainwater Harvesting system in a rural family property.
