LEKIN® – Flexible Job-Shop Scheduling System

Announcement: The version that can be downloaded has been upgraded
and allows now for 50 jobs, 20 work centers and 100 machines.
LEKIN® is a scheduling system developed at the Stern School of Business, NYU. Major parts of the
system were designed and coded by Columbia University students. LEKIN® was created as an educational
tool with the main purpose of introducing the students to scheduling theory and its applications. Besides
that, the system’s extensibility allows (and encourages) to use it in algorithm development. The project has
been directed by Professor Michael L. Pinedo, Professor Xiuli Chao and Professor Joseph Leung. This
development has been partially supported by the National Science Foundation.

With your comments and suggestions, you are always welcome to contact Michael Pinedo or Andrew
Feldman. Before reporting a bug, please download the newest version and make sure that this bug has not
been fixed yet.

friend, Ya Yang. She was a great person and a talented scholar. In our
will always be with us.

The authors would like to thank Rungson Samroengraja, Manish Choudhury, Melanie Drake, Jenny
Poon and other students of Operations Consulting class, Spring 1998, Stern School of Business, NYU for
extensive testing and useful comments that helped debugging and improving LEKIN®.

The Academic version of LEKIN® is available for download. The Industrial version of the system is in the
design stage.

Download the latest version of LEKIN® (April, 2002)

Download LEKIN® ver. 2.4!

The self-extractable executable file, available for download on this page, can be used for two purposes:

• to install the Demo version of LEKIN®;

• to upgrade an existing installation.

Latest update: April 1, 2002.

Lekin.exe (1.67MB)
Installation instructions.

• Run Lekin.exe file.

• Wait while the files are unpacked. InstallShield will start.

• Select an installation directory for LEKIN®. Default is C:\Program Files\Lekin; you can change it
as you wish.

• Select a directory for LEKIN® algorithm files. Default is <ProgDir>\Alg, where <ProgDir> is the
main installation directory.

• If you intend to use LEKIN® for developing your own algorithms and sending them out, you
should identify yourself – more or less uniquely. Otherwise, when someone tries to import your
algorithm into his system, it may wipe out one of the previously imported algorithms. You should
choose a "call sign" for yourself. The name of your company, possibly accompanied by your own
name, should do the trick.

• Choose the Folder for the program icons.

• LEKIN® will now install itself onto your system.

• Press "Finish". LEKIN® was successfully installed!

Upgrade instructions.
If you have a customized version of LEKIN® and would like to upgrade it, please do the following:

• Download Lekin.exe file from this page.

• Insert your original LEKIN® disk in the floppy drive.

• Run Lekin.exe and follow the installation instructions. The original LEKIN® disk must be in the
drive throughout the installation.

Modification List.
Here is the list of modifications made in versions 2.2, 2.3, and 2.4.

• Bug fixed: LEKIN® crashes if the right mouse button is clicked on the program icon in the task
bar.

• Bug fixed: Load Setup Matrix dialog box crashes.

• Bug fixed: Weights are lost when a job file is saved.

• Bug fixed: Local Search crashes.

• Bug fixed: Operation start and end times in the Job Pool window are incorrect.

• Added one more external algorithm.

• Export feature cleaned up.

• Smarter dispatching rule mechanism.

• User algorithm development simplified.

• Added indentation of late jobs on the Gantt chart.

• Joined Print and Print Setup commands into the modified Print dialog box.

• Added the possibility to print the Gantt chart on more than one page.
