Dear Fellow Northeast Ohio Chapter SMPS Members:

Spring has arrived and it is time in the SMPS Program year to begin thinking about the
Northeast Ohio Chapter Board of Directors and Committee Co-Chairs for 2011-2012. We
have had a successful year despite the difficult economy and we want to maintain that
momentum going into the next program year. The Board has a wide variety of positions
requiring different talents; however, the most important characteristic a Board member
must possess is the ability to be forward-thinking, positive, and committed to making the
Northeast Ohio Chapter one of the best in the country. Does this describe you or someone
you know?

There are many benefits to serving on the Board, both professionally and personally. The
experience exposes you to more than 60 members of the Northeast Chapter, in addition to
your 6,000 colleagues across the country. This experience provides the opportunity to
groom your leadership skills and allows you to mold the Chapter for years to come and
make a difference in your profession.

The terms of Nominations and Elections are outlined in the Northeast Chapter’s by-laws.
The nominations may be made by individuals, self-nominations, or by petitions, and will be
received by Nominations and Elections Committee. The Committee then determines a
ballot with the slate of candidates; the ballot is then distributed and voted upon by the
Chapter membership.

There are requirements one must meet in order to be eligible for a board position. If you are
not eligible this year, now is an excellent time to join a committee, the first step to becoming
a leader in the Chapter.

1) In order to be eligible for election as President-Elect, you must have served on the
Board of Directors for one year or as a Committee Chair for one year.
2) In order to be eligible for election as Secretary, Treasurer or Director’s position, you
must have served on a Chapter committee for one year.
3) In order to be eligible for election in any Director’s position, you must have been a
Regular or Distinguished member for one year.
