4.2 Coating materials and equipments:

 The contractor shall insure that all the regulations regarding health protection and

occupational safety are observed during the performance of the surface

Preparation and coating work and during the use the selected coating materials.

 Environmental protection regulations of local authorities shall also be observed.

 Document concerning the surface preparation and coating system / coating

material, with information in relation to:

 Coating work

 Requirements

 Supervision

 Properties / characteristic

 Miscellaneous

 control surface

 The color of each coating, edge protection included, shall be different. The color

of the last undercoat shall be hidden by the top coat.

qualified and experienced. The contractor for the relevant assemblies shall be

responsible in this connection.

 The location of the control surface for the relevant assemblies shall be selected by

all the contracting parties together.

 All surface preparation and coating work on control surface shall be performed in

the presence of representative of all contracting parties, who shall confirm that the

control surface conform to the specification.

 The contractor for the coating systems shall comply with local regulations on

health protection and occupational safety in relation to the use of solvents and

coating products.

 Surfaces to be coated shall be dry and free from contamination; the surface

temperature shall be at least 3 C above the ambient air during coating.

 The coating materials shall be applied with a uniform thickness.

 Corners, edges, bolt heads ,etc., which are difficult to reach shall be pre-coated

with small brushes.

 Suitable equipment shall be used for spray application.

 Rollers must not apply prime coats.

 To avoid defects of the coating (e.g. blisters, pores, inclusion of thinner, bulling of

thinner ) and changes of the intervals between coats ,the surface temperature

should be in the range recommended by the paint manufacturer during coating

,hardening ,and curing of the coating materials

 Prior to any others test, the coating shall be subjected to a visual check should be

limited to coaling defects (e.g. spray dazzle ,areas left uncoated ,inclusions of dirt

, blisters , porosity ,sags ,tears ,brush marks).Areas in which the blasting material

has remained under the coating shall be blasted again and recoated.

 The wet film thickness shall be measured on a random basis with a comb-type

gauge immediately after applying the coating material.

 The dry film thickness shall be measured after adequate hardening or curing of

the coating. (Calibration of gauge according to equipment manufacture).

 To observe the specified total film thickness, the thickness of each individual

layer should be measured. .(measurement according to SSPC.)

 Storage containers of coating material should be in dry, good ventilation rooms,

with temp (5-23oC) and as recommended by coating manufacturers.

 Coating material shall contain no lead, cadmium or chromate.

4.4 Supervision:

 Qualified paint inspector to supervise paint activities and to advise for normal and

trouble painting issues.

4.5 Painting System:

 Blasting: according to ISO 8501-1: SA 2 ½.

 Painting:

 Applying Primer Coat, Zinc dust / Ethyl Silicate, 75 Microns DFT before

Fabrication for all carbon steel and touch up on weld joints and heat affected

zones.

o NOTE: All surfaces to be welded in site must be no painted, but protected with weld

able primer; all friction (contact) surface of bolted connection must be only painted

with primer (inorganic zinc primer).

relevant assemblies.

Neutral control by external bodies shall be provided for the individual assemblies and

shall be agreed with the relevant painting contractor prior to the individual coating

operations.

6. Documentation:

The quality assurance documents shall be as follows individually for each coat film :

 Standard data sheets for the specified coating system for each coat film.

 Standard form for the reports on corrosion-preventive work for the selected

control Surfaces..

 Technical Data Sheets relating to the coating materials specified.

material from the cleaned surface (e.g. by vacuum cleaner, compressed air)

 There are no any surfaces without covering.

 Check wet film thickness (W.F.T).

 Check dry film thickness (D.F.T).

In addition the following inspection shall be done in random way; (Ref. to client
