QUALIFICATIONS

Seasoned Scientist with a Ph.D. degree and postdoctoral training in the fields o
f neuroscience, pharmacology and physiology, and undergraduate training in biome
dical engineering. Expertise in various electrophysiology techniques, and hands-
on experience in biotechnologies, such as neuron culture, Ca2+ imaging, microsco
py, biochemistry, behavioral study, PCR, animal breeding, and electroencephalogr
am. Completed research projects in the study of neurobiological disorders and pa
rasitic diseases. First author of research publications in top-tier journals. Ex
cellent scientific writing and oral presentation. Industry work experiences.
Excels at logical scientific writing. From his supervisor, "He proved once more
his talent and dedication. I have seen very few people at the postdoctoral level
who are proficient in writing their own manuscripts. He is one of the few." Inv
ited by other universities to give presentations in his second-year postdoctoral
training. Gave oral presentations at international and national conferences. Me
mber of the Society for Neuroscience.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
UNIVERSITY OF IOWA, Iowa City, IA 2008 - Present
Postdoctoral Scholar
Project 1: Roles of Ca2+ permeable glutamate receptors in stroke.
Project 2: Impairment of synaptic plasticity in conditional L-type Ca2+ channel
knockout mice.
* Utilized multiple biotechnical approaches (including electrophysiology, bioche
mistry, Ca2+ imaging, microscopy, etc) in genetically engineered mice.
* Produced and validated results that differed from earlier studies.
* Finalized the two projects in only two years and am now drafting two manuscrip
ts.
* Co-authored three other research articles: one recently published in top-tired
journal, one submitted to Nature, and one in preparation.
IOWA STATE UNIVERSITY, Ames, IA 2001 - 2007
Research Assistant
Project 1: Actions and binding mechanisms of novel clinical drugs (paraherquamid
e and its derivatives) on nicotinic acetylcholine receptors.
Project 2: Drug resistance of nicotinic acetylcholine compounds in nematodes.
* Collaborated with Pfizer on the above two projects.
* Focused on drug actions on ligand-gated ion channels and drug resistance in C.
elegans.
* Independently established a novel method of using the patch-clamp technique fo
r recordings from C. elegans, a capability shared by very few laboratories in th
e world.
* Creative work made the lab one of the only labs in the world to study ligand-g
ated ion channels at the single-channel level in C. elegans.
