INTRODUCTION TO TOPIC

Employee satisfaction Survey

Employee satisfaction is a measure of how happy workers are

with their job and working environment. Keeping morale high among
workers can be of tremendous benefit to any company, as happy workers
will be more likely to produce more, take fewer days off, and stay loyal to
the company. There are many factors in improving or maintaining high
employee satisfaction, which wise employers would do well to implement

Employee satisfaction is supremely important in an organization

because it is what productivity depends on. If your employees are satisfied
they would produce superior quality performance in optimal time and lead
to growing profits. Satisfied employees are also more likely to be creative
and innovative and come up with breakthroughs that allows a company to
grow and change positively with time and changing market conditions.

Employee satisfaction surveys help employers measure and

understand their employees' attitude, opinions, motivation, and general
satisfaction with their work environment. Use employee satisfaction surveys
to inform employee decision making, benefits, work needs and more.

Employee satisfaction depends on their company policy

regarding production , training , pay scale , Interpersonal relationship in
organization , facilities provided for personal development ,canteen
facility ,work environment etc . By Preparing Questionnaire with way of
informal talk to every worker recorded their satisfaction level for above
mention points

Job satisfaction can be influenced by a variety of factors, e.g.

the quality of one's relationship with their supervisor, the quality of the
physical environment in which they work, degree of fulfillment in their
work, etc.. Numerous research results show that there are many factors
affecting the job satisfaction. There are particular demographic traits (age,
education level, tenure, position, marital status, years in service, and hours
worked per week) of employees that significantly affect their job
12

satisfaction.
Satisfying factors motivate workers while dissatisfying ones prevent.
Motivating factors are achievement, recognition, the job conducted,
responsibility, promotion and the factors related to the job itself for personal
development. Motivating factors in the working environment result in the
job satisfaction of the person while protective ones dissatisfy him/her .
Maslow connects the creation of the existence of people's sense of
satisfaction with the maintenance of the classified needs. These are:
physiological needs (eating, drinking, resting, etc.), security needs (pension,
health insurance, etc.), the need to love (good relations with the
environment, friendship, fellowship, to love and to be loved), need to self-
esteem (self-confidence, recognition, adoration, to be given importance,
status, etc.) need of self-actualization (maximization of the latent[potential]
power and capacity, development of abilities, etc.) .
Insufficient education, inability to select qualified workers for the job, lack
of communications, lack of job definitions, all affect job satisfaction
negatively. It has been asserted that participating in the management, having
the decision making power, independence on the job and the unit where the
individual works, have positive impact upon the job satisfaction. The job
itself (the work conducted), and achievement and recognition at work result
in satisfaction while the management policy, relations with the managers
and colleagues result in dissatisfaction. Factors related to the job itself such
as using talents, creativity, responsibility, recognition have influence on the
job satisfaction.
Age is one of the factors affecting job satisfaction. Studies conducted in five
different countries prove that the elder workers are more satisfied . Kose has
also found a meaningful relation between the age and job satisfaction .
There is a strong connection between feeling secure and saying one is
satisfied with a job. People who state their job is secure have a much larger
probability of reporting themselves happy with their work.
Similarly, by some researchers, sex is also found to have an influence on job
satisfaction . Besides, Wahba has found out that male librarians give more
importance to personal development and free decision making in their jobs
than the female librarians, and the female librarians are more dissatisfied
than the male librarians .
Job satisfaction and devotion to the job, affected each other reciprocally,
and they have great impact upon performance. The most significant of the
factors affecting performance are economical, technical, socio-political,
cultural and demographical ones .
However, most efforts to improve performance seem to center on improving
the conditions surrounding the work. These are worthwhile efforts, but they
usually result only in short-term improvements in attitudes and productivity,
and the situation often returns quickly to normal .
13

There is no strong acceptance among researchers, consultants, etc., that

increased job satisfaction produces improve job performance -- in fact,
improved job satisfaction can sometimes decrease job performance. For
example, you could let workers sometime sit around all day and do nothing.
That may make them more satisfied with their "work" in the short run, but
their performance certainly doesn't improve. The individual's willingness to
get a result, his/her endeavour and expectation of maintaining the result will
push him/her to show the highest performance.
Job satisfaction varies a lot. (Researches suggests, the higher the prestige of
the job, the greater the job satisfaction). But, many workers are satisfied in
even the least prestigious jobs. They simply like what they do. Most
workers like their work if they have little supervision. The least satisfied
workers are those in service occupations and managers that work for others.
Ethnic and religious orientation is associated to work attitudes, and job
satisfaction is related to education.
The difference between the results that the individual desire and those s/he
maintained will affect his/her satisfaction . There is a consistent relationship
between the professional status and the job satisfaction. High levels of job
satisfaction are observed in those professions which are deemed of good
standing in the society.
The workers usually compare their working conditions with the conditions
of the society, under the variable of social conditions. If the social
conditions are worse than the individual's working conditions, then this will
result in satisfaction of the individual, as the workers deem themselves
relatively in good position.
No meaningful relationship between the job satisfaction and age,
professional experience, education level, level of wage,
sex and professional group was found. On the contrary, professional
experience has been claimed to increase job satisfaction .
14

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

There are two primary methodologies for conduction

employee satisfaction surveys Internet and paper-and-pencil. The choice of
methodology should be based on what is best for the respondents -- best in
terms of convenience, ease of use, trust in the method. There is little
difference in price between either method until the sample size numbers in
the thousands, in which case Internet is more cost effectively .Here
Employees whose survey was to be taken are workers , not highly educated
so I preferred paper and pencil method for survey . By means of some direct
questions, yes no questions, indirect questions ,
by observing their expressions ,body language tried to know about their
satisfaction towards company.
To get more clear idea about workers satisfaction level I
distributed blank papers to them and asked to write their problems,
suggestions on paper without writing name on paper ,the next day when I
collected it got idea about satisfaction level which helped for conclusion
15

Limitations of Study
Employee Satisfaction Survey depends on many factors
in which workers personal ,family background also plays important role for
satisfaction or dissatisfaction .
Workers nature, prejudgment tendency, fear to loose job,
introvert nature becomes distraction in survey .People may give false
answers, hide information ,which affect on result of survey.

FINDINGS AND SUGGETIONS

I have completed my survey and observation in Siddheshwar Industeries

Pvt .Ltd on the topic Employee Satisfaction .According to serve I did ,I
have come to know about workers satisfaction level .Summaries report of
my serve is as follows . I think it may help company to know about
workers satisfaction level and company’s progress .

Observations and suggestions

A) Workplace –

1) In CNC department workers are satisfied with their work place they don’t
have any problem , working place is clean , good to work

2) In machinery department machineries are very near to each other I think

if more space can be allotted to it ,working will be more comfortable ,faster
and place can be kept clean so workers will feel easy to work there

B) Shift timings

Most workers are satisfied with shift timings

C) Payment –

1) Regarding payment workers are not known about their payment ,I think if
company tell them regarding why he is paid ‘x’ amount of salary it will
help to reduce dissatisfaction regarding payment and help him to motivate
for quality work and more salary

2) There demand is they should get payment between 10-12 th day of

month

D) Machineries

1) Machineries provided are good workers are satisfied with

machineries
35

2) Training workers to take care of their machine , do repairing oiling

where he work will create affection for work ,machinery will increase
satisfaction , and reduce rework

E) Canteen

Company is providing canteen facility which is appreciated by many

workers . Regarding canteen their satisfaction is less. According to them
at second shift food is not sufficient Here need to improvise to increase
satisfaction . Menu for all week days must be predecided according what
is needed for hard working people .

F) Training

Training requirement is observed for new workers to increase

production ,which will indirectly help for increasing satisfaction level of
workers

G) Hygiene

Drinking water, food , wash room ,washing powder to wash hands etc are
provided by company.
Workers need to go to canteen to drink water when they are on shop Flore
which waste working time ,so I suggest if company can provide drinking
water near to production shop it will more helpful .Hand washing powder is
available only before and after lunch ,workers request is make it available
after finishing job work

H) Dress code

As company is providing Apron, Shoes to workers most of them are

satisfied with dress code .but they are not knowing why company cut
money from their salary ?what is that exact amount ? Is the amount return to
them .Here company should make them aware about policy .

I) Interpersonal Relationship

Workers are satisfied with their supervisors , managers ,co workers

behavior .Interpersonal relationship is well maintained .Satisfaction level is
high .
36

J) Other Suggestions

1) To increase satisfaction of workers and for their health company can

arrange Yoga training for them on holiday (Sunday) free of cost in
company premises to reduce stress due to continues work .If person
continue to do yoga regularly it will reduce absenteeism in company . It will
not affect on company’s production as it will be done on holyday .

2) Exhaust fans required in zone 1 where irritating gas is given out in OD

processing .
Here company can provide washable cotton masks with uniform, so that
workers can work safely .

3) At night shift tea comes early, instead of that if you can provide tea
between 12-1 pm when workers feel sleepy , tired it will help to regain
energy for good work

4) When people work for overtime they work for continuously after regular
job hour ,in this case they get tired and can not give expected job target ,?In
this case company can provide Biscuits and tea as energy food at time of
overtime

5) Company can start Quality circles to solve problems

regarding production , machineries

6) At newly started machine area machineries are placed very near which
is becoming uncomfortable to work ,if more space is made available to them
it will help workers to work smoothly .

7) Collection of bur can to improvised ,which will stop wastage of it and

become more beneficial to company .
