Government College of Technology- Overview

In 1945, a special entry was made in the golden

pages of history with the foundation of G.C.T under the
patronage of the esteemed philanthropist, Late Shri
G. D. Naidu, the stalwart of the Indian Engineering
scenario.

Ever since that prestigious moment, it has set

standard of recognition standing out as numero uno in
technical expertise. Recognition by the AICTE stood as
a testimony to its excellence and one more feather was Late shri g.d. naidu
added to the hat when it attained the Autonomous
status.

Government College of Technology offers nine full time and four part-time B.E. courses and also
thirteen postgraduate engineering courses. The college is recognized for conducting Ph.D. and
M.Phil. programs as well. The college is affiliated to Anna University and is enjoying autonomous
status. The college is an infra-structural marvel having full-fledged laboratories and well-established
computer centre. Umpteen volumes of books of various disciplines are available in the college

CO-CURRICULAR
ACTIVITES
Students actively involve themselves in various cocurricular
activities throughout the academic year. The SAE collegiate
club conducts “SWIRL” every year and encourages the
students to present papers. Our student team has won
various prizes in Aeromodelling and RC plane modeling.
During the academic year, students do mini projects in the
laboratories during their free time. Also the department
organizes guest lecturers then and there to make the
students understand the practical importance of the
concepts. During the semester breaks, students undergo in-
plant training at various reputed organizations and gain
hands on experience about the subject and also get a very
good exposure to the work atmosphere. The department also
organizes local and outstation industrial tours every year so
that students get to see the various manufacturing and
handling process at industries.

Students are given access to various International and

National journals in Mechanical Discipline so that they are
updated with the latest ongoing research in the field.
Personality development programs are also conducted every
now and then. The training and placement cell actively
conducts tests and mock interviews to make the students
face campus interviews without fear. The department has also
signed MoU’s with leading industries in and around
Coimbatore to impart practical training to students.
