THIS WEEKBOOK IS DEDICATED TO THOSE OF THE CADET TRAINING GROUP WHO HAVE MADE THE ULTIMATE SACRIFICE IN SERVICE TO OUR GREAT NATION DURING THE PAST, PRESENT, AND FUTURE OF THIS GLOBAL WAR ON TERROR. BECAUSE THESE BRAVE YOUNG AMERICANS ANSWERED THEIR NATIONS CALL TO ARMS, WITH COURAGE, DIGNITY, AND HONOR, WE DEDICATE THIS BOOK TO THE LEGACY THEY LEAVE BEHIND.

WEEKBOOK DEDICATION
49th Cadet Training Squadron Commander

Tom Doyle
The 49th Cadet Training Squadron of the Cadet Training Group is unique in Cadet Training Group history. No cadets were ever assigned to the 49th CTS; the number was set aside to honor a former member of the Cadet Training Group. Cadet Captain Tom Doyle was a Northern California youth who was a leader in his school and community, a licensed pilot at age 17 and an outstanding member of the Civil Air Patrol. Cadet Doyle was selected to command the 18th CTS at Fort Ord in the summer of 1980. However, changed personnel requirements resulted in the activation of only one CTS instead of the three that were planned. Shortly after the Fort Ord Encampment, Cadet Doyle commanded Delta Flight, 17th CTS at McClellan AFB. He was a graduate of the USAF Academy. After completing training as a fighter pilot, he was stationed with NATO in Germany. On one grim cloudy day in the spring of 1988 he gave his life to save the children and people of the town of Forst. Returning from a low level fighter mission, Lieutenant Doyles F-16 fighter had a sudden engine failure over Forst. He could have bailed out but if he had his jet would have plowed into a school in the town. Instead he stayed with the aircraft and directed it away from the people. Having survived two previous in-flight emergencies, he knew the odds were against him when he made his decision. Lieutenant Thomas Doyle, USAF, gave his life in the crash to save the children and people of Forst. In 1989, the Cadet Training Group recognized Lieutenant Doyle by naming him, posthumously, as the Commander of the 49th Cadet Training Squadron. The guidon of the 49th Cadet Training Squadron appears on the Cadet Training Group shield as a reminder of our fallen Cadet Training Group hero.

Commandant of Cadets

CTG Commander

Congratulations on successfully completing the 2010 California/Nevada Wing Joint Encampment! You have completed a challenging week that took you out of your comfort zone, taught you to push your limits, learn more about yourselves, and how to work as a member of a team. I hope that your accomplishment here will give you the confidence to try new things in your CAP home squadron as well as your personal life. I look forward to seeing you at future CAP activities and hearing about your successes.

Lt Col James Welliver

Your basic Encampment is the beginning of many difficult tests in your Civil Air Patrol career. It is a place of Teamwork, Discipline, and Success. You signed a contract to giving 100% of yourself, and you followed through with your commitment, leaving here as a member of the life-long team. The training you have acquired here gives you the ability to take the next step in achieving any goal in life. You first have to take those steps. I am proud of you and look forward to seeing you excel as future leaders of the Cadet Training Group.

Lt Col Scott Englund

We pushed your limits and you became a team in order to achieve success. You disciplined yourself, relied on others, and in turn, helped others who needed your help. At the beginning of the week, I presented you with a challenge; you overcame and seized the opportunity becoming a member of The Cadet Training Group. I now present you with a new challenge and opportunity keep pushing yourself in Civil Air Patrol and throughout life. Accepting this challenge will make many opportunities available to you.
