SCOPE. This pocket guide is designed for eld use, and covers basic tasks necessary to use the DAGR in the Basic operating mode only. The user is provided essential tasks in abbreviated format along with related graphics where applicable. For more detailed information (including TO/TM references throughout manual and DAGR advanced functions), the user should refer to the DAGR Operator and Maintenance Technical Manual. Help text can be accessed when shown on the display. Equipment covered by this manual includes the AN/PSN-13 with software 984-2461-012, and the AN/PSN-13A with software 984-3006-002. Questions concerning technical content should be directed to WR-ALC/GBENS. GPS OPERATION. The NAVSTAR Global Positioning System (GPS) is a space-based navigation and timing system made up of multiple satellites, a ground control system, and any number of navigation sets. The DAGR collects and

Change 2

TO 31R4-2PSN13-8-1 processes satellite signals to provide position, velocity, and time (PVT) information, along with position reporting and navigation capabilities. SAFETY SUMMARY.

To prevent injury or death during spoong or jamming, the DAGR must be loaded with current CV keys to operate correctly and improve accuracy. If abused, lithium batteries can explode causing severe injury. Be sure to store batteries in original packaging until ready to use and observe polarity during installation. Reverse polarity can cause damage to the battery and receiver. To prevent electrical shock, never open the external 110 V AC power cable adapter and never come in contact with its AC plug during operation. DAGR displays a warning when powered on after previously using the Fire Support page or after nonvolatile memory is cleared, stating the present position displayed is NOT the target position of the Fire Support page. vi
Change 2

TO 31R4-2PSN13-8-1 SAFETY SUMMARY (CONT).

All batteries in extreme temperatures have reduced capabilities. In the desert, DAGR radiant internal temperature could exceed 200 F. Lithium batteries breakdown at 260 F, alkaline batteries breakdown at 200 F, and both can put toxic fumes into the air. When batteries breakdown, the DAGR battery connections can also become corroded. Wash any acid away from skin with running water. Lithium batteries are recommended for use in extreme temperatures. Do not mix new batteries with old batteries. Do not mix battery types. Do not reverse battery polarity. Use only fresh/new batteries. This ensures proper battery life and proper unit operation. Ensure a good memory battery is installed before removing the primary battery pack to ensure all settings in memory are retained. A good memory battery is indicated by checking the memory battery date on the battery page, or if the battery is low, a Low Memory Battery message will show on the display.
Change 2

vii

TO 31R4-2PSN13-8-1 SAFETY SUMMARY (CONT).

Failure to observe correct polarity when installing the external DC power cable may result in damage to the DAGR. If using an external DC power source, ensure positive (red) lead of the external DC power cable is connected to positive lead of external power source. The DAGR is protected against accidental reverse connection of external power. Current position is necessary before accurate navigation of waypoints and routes can be accomplished. A high level of position error may place a mission at risk. Verify the FOM level is sufcient to accomplish the mission. Refer to Present Position or NAV Displays pages for the current FOM. Both the Zeroize function and Data Clear Options function destroy mission critical data, and DAGR operation can become seriously impaired for a particular mission without this data.

viii

Change 2

TO 31R4-2PSN13-8-1 SAFETY SUMMARY (CONT).

When position data elds blink between black and gray text, the DAGR is not tracking satellites or has not yet acquired present position. Field data may be inaccurate when the DAGR does not have a position x. Be sure the DAGR has an open view of the sky to acquire the present position. If the position data elds continue to blink, perform the manual initialization procedure. Accidental jamming may occur when operating the DAGR near a source of high power electronic emissions. Move away from these sources and verify operation.

4.1 ACQUIRE CURRENT POSITION. Refer to TO/TM paragraph 5.4.1.3. The DAGR obtains current position by simply turning the DAGR on with an open view of the sky. While acquiring satellites, DAGR displays the SV Sky View page. After satellites are acquired, DAGR automatically transitions to the Present Position page with current position coordinates shown. An indication of when the DAGR has obtained current position is provided by: Position data fields of the Present Position page remain solid black text and do not blink. On the SV Sky View page, solid black horizontal bars indicate satellites being tracked and data is collected; and Navigating shows at the top of display.

TO 31R4-2PSN13-8-1 9.2 ELECTRONIC WARFARE.

To prevent injury or death during spoong or jamming, the DAGR must be loaded with current CV keys to operate correctly and improve accuracy. 9.2.1 Spoong and Anti-Spoong. Refer to TO/TM paragraph 15.3.1. Hostile parties may imitate (spoof) GPS signals causing errors in navigation information. Improve operation by the following. Ensure current crypto keys are loaded (Refer to TO/TM paragraph 7.2). Command the DAGR to use only satellites transmitting Y-code signals (Refer to TO/TM paragraph 7.4.2.4).

9.2.2 Jamming and Anti-Jamming. Refer to TO/TM paragraph 15.3.2. Signal interference (jamming) may occur due to hostile parties or when operating near large metal objects, dense foliage, or high power electronic emissions, etc. Improve operation by the following. Operate the DAGR close to the ground to minimize reception of ground based signals.

CHAPTER 12 BATTERY REPLACEMENT

12.1 PRIMARY BATTERY REPLACEMENT.

Do not mix new with old batteries, mix battery types, or reverse battery polarity. Use only fresh/ new batteries. Ensure a good memory battery is installed. This ensures proper battery life and unit operation. Refer to TO/TM paragraph 22.6.2. Refer to Figure 12-1. a. b. c. Pull latch on battery pack to release, then remove battery pack. Remove batteries and dispose according to local regulations. Position battery removal strap into battery pack and install new batteries (ensure correct polarity).

CHAPTER 13 EXTERNAL INTERFACE

13.1 INSTALLATION TO HOST PLATFORM.

Failure to observe correct polarity when installing the external DC power cable may result in damage to the DAGR. Fuse is located in the positive (red) lead of the external power cable. NOTE Internal primary power batteries are not required while using external power, but may remain installed. The memory battery should always remain installed. Refer to Figure 13-1 for a diagram of the host platform interconnection, and to Figure 13-2 for external power connection. Refer to TO/TM paragraph 20.3.3. a. Pull outward on two slide pins located on mount. Install DAGR into host platform mount.

Connect J3 of the DAGR to the external antenna cable, then connect cable to external antenna. NOTE For the anti-jam accessory (AJA), connect J3 of the DAGR to the RA-1 antenna cable, then connect antenna cable to J1 of the antijam accessory. d. J1 and J2 are connected as needed for data transfer with an external device. (If not using the anti-jam accessory, go to step g.) If using the anti-jam accessory, connect the rectangular plug of the AJA data cable to J1 of the DAGR. If using the anti-jam accessory, connect the round plug of the AJA data cable to J2 of the anti-jam accessory. Connect the round plug of the AJA power cable to J3 of the anti-jam accessory. NOTE Connect the anti-jam accessory to a DC power source that can be switched off. If the DC power source is not switched off when the anti-jam accessory is not in use, an unnecessary power drain will result in the host platform. g. The DAGR automatically updates itself to using external power. No reconguration is necessary when using external antenna.
