PBA-PANEL board HP sensor Mirror unit
(Lamp and mirror mechanism and drive unit, lens-CCD sensor unit drive mechanism, Document size sensors)
" Control circuit boards " Power supply circuit boards " AD. (Refer to A3 Auto Document .eeders service manual for detail)
The EPSON A3 flat-bed type scanners usually read images by moving the integral CR unit which consists of the lamp, mirror, and lens-CCD sensor. This scanner, however, characteristically has the CCD sensor and the lens in the whole unit attached onto the mechanism as an independent unit. This scanner is also equipped with the newly designed focusing function which enables the scanner to focus by adjusting the distance between the lens and the CCD sensor. Since the separate units in the mechanism such as the lamp and the mirrors move at their own speed for reading, the incident distance of the reflected light from the document to the CCD sensor is kept constant.

Drive wires
The control circuit board is designed to be inserted from the rear of the scanner, and the power supply board fits into a separate shielded compartment, with both circuit boards being connected only by the relay circuit board connector inside the scanner mechanism. This makes removal and maintenance operations much easier.

General Description
23
Revision A
The vertical distance between the lamp plus the mirror in the Lamp/mirror unit and the document surface remain constant. The vertical distance between the mirrors in the Mirror unit also remains constant. However, the horizontal distances between the Lamp/mirror unit (rate = x2) and the Mirror unit (rate = x1) as well as between the Mirror unit and Lens unit are constantly changing. The stepping motor drives both movable units via wires. The CCD sensor and the lens are united into one unit, which is semi-fixed on the base frame. The scanner is that the CCD lens focus is fixed.

Among the various functions controlled by the PBA-MAIN board as well as the PBA-ISN, these boards control the scanning process from the CCD sensors to the image signal processing as described below. 1. PBA-MAIN Board (document size detection)
! Photoelectric conversion:
Converts light reflected from the document (light energy) into electrical energy (electrical charge).

3. PBA-MAIN Board (processes image data) ASIC (IC2) on this board manages most of the following functions:
! A/D conversion:
Converts the image data produced in the form of analog electrical signals into 12-bit digital data. Performs image data correction on a black and white basis.

This chapter describes the procedures for disassembling and assembling the main components of the scanner GT-30000. (Refer to A3 Auto Document .eeders service manual for detail on the disassembly and assembly procedures for the AD..) Except where indicated separately, all procedures for re-assembling the disassembled assemblies and components should be carried out by following the disassembly procedures in reverse. Sections which may result in injury or risk to life if proper care is not taken are indicated by a WARNING symbol. Sections where particular care should be taken beforehand during disassembly or assembly are indicated by a CAUTION symbol. Tips designed to assist with disassembly are indicated by a CHECK POINT symbol. If the assembly procedure differs from the reverse of the disassembly procedure, the steps which are different are indicated by a RE-ASSEMBLY symbol. .urthermore, if adjustment is required as a result of disassembly, the adjustment steps are indicated by an ADJUSTMENT symbol. If disassembly of assemblies or components which are not mentioned in this chapter are required, please refer to the separate general disassembly diagram. Be sure to read the Points to Note on the next page before starting any disassembly procedures.

MAINTENANCE
Revision 0
6.1 OVERVIEW
This chapter provides information necessary to keep the scanner function in optimum condition constantly and to prevent troubles.
6.1.2 Lubrication
This scanner needs no lubrication at the level of service specified in the service manual.
6.1.1 Cleaning
Perform cleaning when stain is noticeable. Stain on the document glass, particularly, has direct effect on scanned image. Therefore, be sure to clean the glass well to remove stain thoroughly.
C A U T IO N
Never apply any organic solvent such as thinner and benzine, since these may deteriorate plastic and rubber parts.
If you need to clean the reverse side of the glass, be sure to remove the glass using the specified adjusting tools.
