LUMS library Department

Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) was estab in 1985. It is one of Pakistans leading universities. It has an outstanding record of excellence in research and learning through its faculty and staff. The university departments are focus on the university vision to provide excellent atmosphere and facilities to the faculty and students. The library was established in the university to facilitate the research thirst of the faculty and students. Initially the library was a small and need was felt of a modern and user friendly library which can facilitate the all user. The university got MrRamzanas chief librarian. He evaluated the requirement and needs of the users and upgraded the library atmosphere by upgrading the library as a department of the university, organized the library to provide a full range of services that includes book loans, online information searching, reference services, inter library loan, document delivery, photocopying, viewing of audiovisual and microfilm materials, access to virtual collections & digital resources, CD-ROM, and on line searching. MrRamzan with the cooperation of his staff made the dream a reality now the library is equipped with state of art technologies. It has collection of more than 202,000 books, pamphlets and documents. It has 131,000 electronic books, sub The library timing are 8:30 am to midnight Monday through Friday, 10 am to 10pm 0n Saturdays, and 2pm to 10 pm on Sunday. During examinations the library remains open round the clock. The qualified and hardworking staff is available seven days a week to provide efficient services. On line data bases are accessible from the terminals in the library and from the campus wide network. In order to pursue the library mission Excel in supporting the academic and scholarly endeavor of its users in their core instructional and research requirements the library is always at forefront to introduce user focused innovative systems, services and resources. Question 1 MrRamzan on joining was given the task by the university to develop the library so as it can provide continuous and latest facilities to its user. In your view what managerial functions he has carried to achieve his task that now its staff is providing excellent facilities to his users? Question 2 A foreign delegation is arriving to visit the library. Being head of the department what managerial role he will be playing in this visit? Question 3 Feasibility is being asked from a technical firm to incorporating newly online system. The coy rep is coming to assess the requirement and present facilities to finalize the plan. As a manager of the library what managerial do you foresee he has to perform in this meeting? Question 4 The 10% allocation of annual budget of the library has been reduced by the administration. In scarcity of resources, what managerial roleMrramzan has to play without compromising on quality servicing and moral of the staff?
