DiskBoss - File & Disk Manager

DiskBoss is an automated, rule-based file and disk management solution allowing one to search, classify and categorize files, perform disk space utilization analysis, automatically organize files according to user-defined rules and policies, copy large amounts of files in a fault-tolerant way, synchronize disks and directories, identify duplicate files and free-up wasted disk space.

File Classification and Organizing

DiskBoss is capable of scanning disks, network shares and enterprise storage systems, classifying all the existing files and organizing them into a categorized file hierarchy. DiskBoss automatically recognizes more than 2500 file types and allows one to browse or export the categorized file hierarchy, perform various file management operations on specific files, file classes or class groups and physically reorganize existing files according to user-specified rules and policies.

Disk Space Utilization Analysis

DiskBoss provides advanced storage utilization analysis capabilities allowing one to analyze one or more local disks or network shares, identify directories and file categories holding significant amounts of the disk space, export reports, generate charts, etc.

The user is provided with the ability to browse files and directories sorted by the used disk space, filter analysis results by the file extension, category, file size, last access time, user name, etc., easily identify disk space usage hotspots, perform file management operations on analysis results, generate various types of disk space analysis charts and export disk space usage reports. In addition, IT administrators are provided with the ability to define one or more conditional actions allowing one to send e-mail notifications or execute custom commands when the number of files, the amount disk space or the amount of free space in user-specified disks or directories are reaching userdefined values.

In addition, DiskBoss Ultimate provides the user with the ability to implement user-custom file classification plugins using an open XML-Based format. The XML-Based format is very simple and it provides support for all file classification features and capabilities available in DiskBoss allowing one to easily implement custom classification plugins especially designed for user-specific needs and requirements. Finally, DiskBoss provides the ability to submit file classification reports from multiple servers and desktop computers to a centralized SQL database allowing one to store a long term history of file classification reports and gain an in-depth visibility into disk space usage trends.

The DiskBoss' built-in duplicate files finder provides a large number of advanced features and capabilities allowing one to identify and cleanup duplicate files on personal computers, servers and enterprise storage systems.

Rule-Based File Search

DiskBoss provides powerful and flexible file search capabilities allowing one to search files using multiple search criteria including the file name, type, size, access/modification/creation times, text or binary patterns, EXIF tags, etc.

In addition, power users and IT professionals are provided with advanced duplicate files detection and removal capabilities allowing one to define custom, rule-based duplicate files detection and removal actions and execute them in a fully automatic, unattended mode.

DiskBoss allows one to define composite search queries using multiple search rules and apply the AND/OR logical operators. Frequently used search queries may be saved as user-defined search commands and executed in a single mouse click using direct desktop shortcuts. In addition, DiskBoss Ultimate and DiskBoss Server provide the user with the ability to send E-Mail notifications, execute custom commands or trigger file management operations when the userspecified search conditions are met.

Real-Time Disk Change Monitor

DiskBoss Ultimate includes a real-time disk change monitor, which is capable of monitoring multiple disks or directories and detecting file modifications, creations, deletions, renames, attribute changes, etc.

High-Speed File Synchronization

DiskBoss provides advanced synchronization capabilities allowing one to synchronize files between directories, local disks and network shares. The user is provided with numerous oneway and two-way file synchronization modes, rulebased file matching capabilities and advanced performance tuning options.

The user is provided with the ability to send notifications, execute commands or batch files or trigger file management operations when the userspecified number of changes is detected in a disk or directory allowing one to automatically manage files based on real-time disk activities.

Fault-Tolerant Data Migration

The DiskBoss' data migration engine allows one to copy vast amounts of data fast, efficiently and reliably. The data migration engine provides recoverable copy operations capable of copying ACLs, security attributes, ownership information and file timestamps.

User-Defined Commands
In order to simplify management and execution of frequently used operations, DiskBoss provides the user with the ability to pre-configure and save userdefined file management commands.

The data migration engine is especially optimized for modern hardware platforms, capable of effectively utilizing fast disk drives, powerful RAID controllers, multi-CPU/multi-core servers and Gigabit Ethernet networks and allows one to copy data at various speeds thus minimizing the potential impact on running production systems.

All major product features such as file search, classification, organizing, synchronization, copy, move, delete, storage utilization analysis, duplicate files search and disk monitoring may be added as user-defined commands and pre-configured for user-specific needs and custom hardware configurations.

File Delete and Data Wiping

DiskBoss provides the user with a large number of powerful file delete capabilities allowing one to delete huge amounts of files very fast and effectively.

Task Management
DiskBoss allows one to execute multiple file management operations simultaneously allowing one to start, stop, pause or resume any operation according to user's specific needs. For example, the user is provided with the ability to suspend a long running task, execute an urgent task and after that resume the previously paused long running operation.

In addition, users required to physically destroy confidential information are provided with numerous data wiping capabilities ranging from a simple singlepass wipe to a 7-Pass DOD 5220.22-M compliant data wiping algorithm.

SQL Database Integration

DiskBoss Ultimate and DiskBoss Server allow one to submit disk space analysis, file classification, duplicate files detection, disk change monitoring and file search results into a centralized SQL database through the ODBC database interface.

DiskBoss Server
DiskBoss Server is a server-based product version, which runs in the background as a service and is capable of performing all disk analysis and file management operations in a fully automatic, unattended mode.

DiskBoss allows one to analyze disk usage, file classification and duplicate files reports submitted from one or more servers or desktop computers and display the used disk space, file categories and duplicate files per user. DiskBoss Server allows one to pre-define disk space analysis or file management operations, execute periodic operations at specific time intervals and submit results into a centralized SQL database. The server can be managed and configured locally or through the network using a free GUI application, the DiskBoss command line utility or the DiskBoss Server API.

Command Line Tools

In addition to the main GUI application, DiskBoss Ultimate and DiskBoss Server provide a command line tool allowing one to use all the features of DiskBoss from an OS shell window. In addition, IT administrators are provided with the ability to analyze reports submitted from multiple hosts and display charts showing disk usage statistics per host allowing one to gain an in-depth visibility into disk space usage trends across the entire enterprise. The DiskBoss command line utility provides power users and IT administrators with the ability to automate all the available operations and to integrate DiskBoss capabilities into batch files and shell scripts.
