7hapter $3 $ From the days of the sla&ghter and destr&ction and death of the giants* from the so&ls of whose flesh the spirits* ha'ing gone forth* shall destroy witho&t inc&rring B&dgment -th&s shall they destroy &ntil the day of the cons&mmation* the great B&dgment in which the age shall be 6 cons&mmated* o'er the <atchers and the godless* yea* shall be wholly cons&mmated$" 8nd now as to the <atchers who ha'e sent thee to intercede for them* who had been aforetime in hea'en* say to them: 3 "Ko& ha'e been in hea'en* b&t all the mysteries had not yet been re'ealed to yo&* and yo& knew worthless ones* and these in the hardness of yo&r hearts yo& ha'e made known to the women* and thro&gh these mysteries women and men work m&ch e'il on earth$" 8 /ay to them therefore: " Ko& ha'e no peace$"G 7hapter $' $ 8nd they took and bro&ght me to a place in which those who were there were like flaming fire* 6 and* when they wished* they appeared as men$ 8nd they bro&ght me to the place of darkness* and to a mo&ntain the point of whose s&mmit reached to hea'en$ 3 8nd % saw the places of the l&minaries and the treas&ries of the stars and of the th&nder and in the &ttermost depths* where were 8 a fiery bow and arrows and their 5&i'er* and a fiery sword and all the lightnings$ 8nd they took # me to the li'ing waters* and to the fire of the west* which recei'es e'ery setting of the s&n$ 8nd % came to a ri'er of fire in which the fire flows like water and discharges itself into the great sea towards 3 the west$ % saw the great ri'ers and came to the great ri'er and to the great darkness* and went ' to the place where no flesh walks$ % saw the mo&ntains of the darkness of winter and the place / whence all the waters of the deep flow$ % saw the mo&ths of all the ri'ers of the earth and the mo&th of the deep$ 7hapter $/ $ % saw the treas&ries of all the winds: % saw how -e had f&rnished with them the whole creation 6 and the firm fo&ndations of the earth$ 8nd % saw the corner-stone of the earth: % saw the fo&r 3 winds which bear Ethe earth andF the firmament of the hea'en$ 8nd % saw how the winds stretch o&t the 'a&lts of hea'en* and ha'e their station between hea'en and earth: these are the pillars 8 of the hea'en$ % saw the winds of hea'en which t&rn and bring the circ&mference of the s&n and # all the stars to their setting$ % saw the winds on the earth carrying the clo&ds: % saw the paths 3 of the angels$ % saw at the end of the earth the firmament of the hea'en abo'e$ 8nd % proceeded and saw a place which b&rns day and night* where there are se'en mo&ntains of magnificent stones* ' three towards the east* and three towards the so&th$ 8nd as for those towards the east* was of colo&red stone* and one of pearl* and one of Bacinth* and those towards the so&th of red stone$ / B&t the middle one reached to hea'en like the throne of 0od* of alabaster* and the s&mmit of the 94$( throne was of sapphire$ 8nd % saw a flaming fire$ 8nd beyond these mo&ntains %s a region the end of the great earth: there the hea'ens were completed$ $$ 8nd % saw a deep abyss* with col&mns of hea'enly fire* and among them % saw col&mns of fire fall* which were beyond meas&re alike towards $6 the height and towards the depth$ 8nd beyond that abyss % saw a place which had no firmament of the hea'en abo'e* and no firmly fo&nded earth beneath it: there was no water &pon it* and no $3 birds* b&t it was a waste and horrible place$ % saw there se'en stars like great b&rning mo&ntains* $8 and to me* when % in5&ired regarding them* The angel said: GThis place is the end of hea'en and earth: this has become a prison for the stars and the host of hea'en$ $# 8nd the stars which roll o'er the fire are they which ha'e transgressed the commandment of the :ord in the beginning of $3 their rising* beca&se they did not come forth at their appointed times$ 8nd -e was wroth with them* and bo&nd them till the time when their g&ilt sho&ld be cons&mmated Ce'enD for ten tho&sand years$G 7hapter $9 $ 8nd Jriel said to me: G-ere shall stand the angels who ha'e connected themsel'es with women* and their spirits ass&ming many different forms are defiling mankind and shall lead them astray into sacrificing to demons as gods* Chere shall they stand*D till the day of the great B&dgment in 6 which they shall be B&dged till

thence$G $8 Then % blessed the :ord of glory and said: GBlessed be my :ord* the :ord of righteo&sness* who r&leth for e'er$G 7hapter 63 $46 From thence % went to another place to the west of the ends of the earth$ 8nd % saw a b&rning 3 fire which ran witho&t resting* and pa&sed not from its co&rse day or night b&t CranD reg&larly$ 8nd 8 % asked saying: G<hat is this which rests notLG Then >ag&el* one of the holy angels who was with me* answered me and said &nto me: GThis co&rse of fire which tho& hast seen is the fire in the west which persec&tes all the l&minaries of hea'en$G 7hapter 68 $ 8nd from thence % went to another place of the earth* and he showed me a mo&ntain range of 6 fire which b&rnt day and night$ 8nd % went beyond it and saw se'en magnificent mo&ntains all differing each from the other* and the stones CthereofD were magnificent and bea&tif&l* magnificent as a whole* of glorio&s appearance and fair exterior: three towards the east* one fo&nded on the other* and three towards the so&th* one &pon the other* and deep ro&gh ra'ines* no one of which 3 Boined with any other$ 8nd the se'enth mo&ntain was in the midst of these* and it excelled them 8 in height* resembling the seat of a throne: and fragrant trees encircled the throne$ 8nd amongst them was a tree s&ch as % had ne'er yet smelt* neither was any amongst them nor were others like it: it had a fragrance beyond all fragrance* and its lea'es and blooms and wood wither not for e'er: # and its fr&it is bea&tif&l* and its fr&it resembles the dates of a palm$ Then % said: G-ow bea&tif&l is this tree* and fragrant* and its lea'es are fair* and its blooms 'ery delightf&l in appearance$G 3 Then answered 7ichael* one of the holy and hono&red angels who was with me* and was their leader$ 7hapter 6# $ 8nd he said &nto me: GEnoch* why dost tho& ask me regarding the fragrance of the tree* 6 and why dost tho& wish to learn the tr&thLG Then % answered him saying: G% wish to 3 know abo&t e'erything* b&t especially abo&t this tree$G 8nd he answered saying: GThis high mo&ntain which tho& hast seen* whose s&mmit is like the throne of 0od* is -is throne* where the -oly 0reat 9ne* the :ord of 0lory* the Eternal King* will sit* when -e shall come down to 'isit 8 the earth with goodness$ 8nd as for this fragrant tree no mortal is permitted to to&ch it till the great B&dgment* when -e shall take 'engeance on all and bring Ce'erythingD to its cons&mmation # for e'er$ %t shall then be gi'en to the righteo&s and holy$ %ts fr&it shall be for food to the elect: it shall be transplanted to the holy place* to the temple of the :ord* the Eternal King$ 3 Then shall they reBoice with Boy and be glad* 8nd into the holy place shall they enter@ 8nd its fragrance shall be in their bones* 8nd they shall li'e a long life on earth* /&ch as thy fathers li'ed: 8nd in their days shall no sorrow or plag&e 9r torment or calamity to&ch them$G ' Then blessed % the 0od of 0lory* the Eternal King* who hath prepared s&ch things for the righteo&s* and hath created them and promised to gi'e to them$ 7hapter 63 $ 8nd % went from thence to the middle of the earth* and % saw a blessed place in which there were 6 trees with branches abiding and blooming Eof a dismembered treeF$ 8nd there % saw a holy mo&ntain* 3 and &nderneath the mo&ntain to the east there was a stream and it flowed towards the so&th$ 8nd % saw towards the east another mo&ntain higher than this* and between them a deep and narrow 8 ra'ine: in it also ran a stream &nderneath the mo&ntain$ 8nd to the west thereof there was another mo&ntain* lower than the former and of small ele'ation* and a ra'ine deep and dry between them: and another deep and dry ra'ine was at the extremities of the three mo&ntains$ # 8nd all the ra'ines were deep rand narrow* Cbeing formedD of hard rock* and trees were not planted &pon 3 them$ 8nd % mar'eled at the rocks* and % mar'eled at the ra'ine* yea* % mar'eled 'ery m&ch$ 7hapter 6'

$ Then said %: GFor what obBect is this blessed land* which is entirely filled with trees* and this 6 acc&rsed 'alley betweenLG Then Jriel* one of the holy angels who was with me* answered and said: GThis acc&rsed 'alley is for those who are acc&rsed for e'er: -ere shall all the acc&rsed be gathered together who &tter with their lips against the :ord &nseemly words and of -is glory speak hard things$ -ere shall they be gathered together* and here 3 shall be their place of B&dgment$ %n the last days there shall be &pon them the spectacle of righteo&s B&dgment in the presence of the righteo&s for e'er: here shall the mercif&l bless the :ord of glory* the Eternal King$ 8 %n the days of B&dgment o'er the former* they shall bless -im for the mercy in accordance with # which -e has assigned them Ctheir lotD$G Then % blessed the :ord of 0lory and set forth -is glory and la&ded -im glorio&sly$ 7hapter 6/ $ 8nd thence % went towards the east* into the midst of the mo&ntain range of the desert* and 6 % saw a wilderness and it was solitary* f&ll of trees and plants$ 8nd water g&shed forth from 3 abo'e$ >&shing like a copio&s waterco&rse Ewhich flowedF towards the north-west it ca&sed clo&ds and dew to ascend on e'ery side$ 7hapter 69 $ 8nd thence % went to another place in the desert* and approached to the east of this mo&ntain range$ 6 8nd there % saw aromatic trees exhaling the fragrance of frankincense and myrrh* and the trees also were similar to the almond tree$ 7hapter 3( $46 8nd beyond these* % went afar to the east* and % saw another place* a 'alley Cf&llD of water$ 8nd 3 therein there was a tree* the colo&r CLD of fragrant trees s&ch as the mastic$ 8nd on the sides of those 'alleys % saw fragrant cinnamon$ 8nd beyond these % proceeded to the east$ 7hapter 3$ $ 8nd % saw other mo&ntains* and amongst them were gro'es of trees* and there flowed forth from 6 them nectar* which is named sarara and galban&m$ 8nd beyond these mo&ntains % saw another mo&ntain to the east of the ends of the earth* whereon were aloe-trees* and all the trees were f&ll 3 of stacte* being like almond-trees$ 8nd when one b&rnt it* it smelt sweeter than any fragrant odo&r$ 7hapter 36 $ 8nd after these fragrant odo&rs* as % looked towards the north o'er the mo&ntains % saw se'en mo&ntains f&ll of choice nard and fragrant trees and cinnamon and pepper$ 6 8nd thence % went o'er the s&mmits of all these mo&ntains* far towards the east of the earth* and passed abo'e the Erythraean sea and went far from it* and passed o'er the angel Iotiel$ 8nd % came to the 0arden of >ighteo&sness* 3 % and from afar off trees more n&mero&s than % these trees and great-two trees there* 'ery great* bea&tif&l* and glorio&s* and magnificent* and the tree of knowledge* whose holy fr&it they eat and know great wisdom$ 8 That tree is in height like the fir* and its lea'es are like Cthose ofD the 6arob tree: and its fr&it # is like the cl&sters of the 'ine* 'ery bea&tif&l: and the fragrance of the tree penetrates afar$ Then 3 % said: G-ow bea&tif&l is the tree* and how attracti'e is its lookHG Then >aphael the holy angel* who was with me* answered me and said: GThis is the tree of wisdom* of which thy father old Cin yearsD and thy aged mother* who were before thee* ha'e eaten* and they learnt wisdom and their eyes were opened* and they knew that they were naked and they were dri'en o&t of the garden$G

is past$ 3 8nd there shall be a light that ne'er endeth* 8nd to a limit Clit$ n&mber D of days they shall not come* For the darkness shall first ha'e been destroyed* E8nd the light established before the :ord of /piritsF 8nd the light of &prightness established for e'er before the :ord of /pirits$ 7hapter #9 $ %n those days mine eyes saw the secrets of the lightnings* and of the lights* and the B&dgements they exec&te Clit$ their B&dgment D: and they lighten for a blessing or a c&rse as the :ord of 6 /pirits willeth$ 8nd there % saw the secrets of the th&nder* and how when it reso&nds abo'e in the hea'en* the so&nd thereof is heard* and he ca&sed me to see the B&dgements exec&ted on the earth* whether they be for well-being and blessing* or for a c&rse according to the word of the :ord of /pirits$ 3 8nd after that all the secrets of the lights and lightnings were shown to me* and they lighten for blessing and for satisfying$ 7hapter 3( 8 Fragment of the Book of =oah $ %n the year 1++* in the se'enth month* on the fo&rteenth day of the month in the life of Enoch$ %n that ?arable % saw how a mighty 5&aking made the hea'en of hea'ens to 5&ake* and the host of the 7ost -igh* and the angels* a tho&sand tho&sands and ten tho&sand times ten tho&sand* were 6 dis5&ieted with a great dis5&iet$ 8nd the -ead of ;ays sat on the throne of -is glory* and the angels and the righteo&s stood aro&nd -im$ 3 8nd a great trembling sei.ed me* 8nd fear took hold of me* 8nd my loins ga'e way* 8nd dissol'ed were my reins* 8nd % fell &pon my face$ 8 8nd 7ichael sent another angel from among the holy ones and he raised me &p* and when he had raised me &p my spirit ret&rned@ for % had not been able to end&re the look of this host* and the # commotion and the 5&aking of the hea'en$ 8nd 7ichael said &nto me: <hy art tho& dis5&ieted with s&ch a 'ision L Jntil this day lasted the day of -is mercy@ and -e hath been mercif&l and 3 long-s&ffering towards those who dwell on the earth$ 8nd when the day* and the power* and the p&nishment* and the B&dgment come* which the :ord of /pirits hath prepared for those who worship not the righteo&s law* and for those who deny the righteo&s B&dgment* and for those who take -is name in 'ain-that day is prepared* for the elect a co'enant* b&t for sinners an in5&isition$ ' <hen the p&nishment of the :ord of /pirits shall rest &pon them* it shall rest in order that the p&nishment of the :ord of /pirits may not come* in 'ain* and it shall slay the children with their mothers and the children with their fathers$ 8fterwards the B&dgment shall take place according to -is mercy and -is patience$ ' 8nd on that day were two monsters parted* a female monster named :e'iathan* to dwell in the / abysses of the ocean o'er the fo&ntains of the waters$ B&t the male is named Behemoth* who occ&pied with his breast a waste wilderness named ;&idain* on the east of the garden where the elect and righteo&s dwell* where my grandfather was taken &p* the se'enth from 8dam* the first 9 man whom the :ord of /pirits created$ 8nd % beso&ght the other angel that he sho&ld show me the might of those monsters* how they were parted on one day and cast* the one into the abysses $( of the sea* and the other &nto the dry land of the wilderness$ 8nd he said to me: Tho& son of man* herein tho& dost seek to know what is hidden$ $$ 8nd the other angel who went with me and showed me what was hidden told me what is first and last in the hea'en in the height* and beneath the earth in the depth* and at the ends of the $6 hea'en* and on the fo&ndation of the hea'en$ 8nd the chambers of the winds* and how the winds are di'ided* and how they are weighed* and ChowD the portals of the winds are reckoned* each according to the power of the wind* and the power of the lights of the moon* and according to the power that is fitting: and the di'isions of the stars according to their names* and how all the di'isions $3 are di'ided$ 8nd the th&nders according to the places where they fall* and all the di'isions that are made among the lightnings that it may lighten* and their host that they may at once obey$ $8 For the th&nder has places of rest CwhichD are assigned Cto itD while it is waiting for its peal@ and the th&nder and lightning are inseparable* and altho&gh not one and &ndi'ided* they both go together $# thro&gh the spirit and separate not$ For when the lightning lightens* the th&nder &tters its 'oice* and the spirit enforces a pa&se d&ring the peal* and di'ides e5&ally between them@ for the treas&ry of their peals is like the sand* and each one of them as it peals is held in with a bridle* and t&rned back by the power of the spirit* and p&shed forward according to the many 5&arters of the earth$ $3 8nd the spirit of the sea is masc&line and strong* and according to the might of his strength he draws it back with a rein* and in like manner it is dri'en forward and disperses amid all the mo&ntains

$' of the earth$ 8nd the spirit of the hoar-frost is his own angel* and the spirit of the hail is a good $/ angel$ 8nd the spirit of the snow has forsaken his chambers on acco&nt of his strength -There is a special spirit therein* and that which ascends from it is like smoke* and its name is frost$ $9 8nd the spirit of the mist is not &nited with them in their chambers* b&t it has a special chamber@ for its co&rse is glorio&s both in light and in darkness* and in winter and in s&mmer* and in its chamber is an angel$ 6( 8nd the spirit of the dew has its dwelling at the ends of the hea'en* and is connected with the chambers of the rain* and its co&rse is in winter and s&mmer: and its clo&ds and the clo&ds of the 6$ mist are connected* and the one gi'es to the other$ 8nd when the spirit of the rain goes forth from its chamber* the angels come and open the chamber and lead it o&t* and when it is diff&sed o'er the whole earth it &nites with the water on the earth$ 8nd whensoe'er it &nites with the water on 66 the earth $ $ $ For the waters are for those who dwell on the earth@ for they are no&rishment for the earth from the 7ost -igh who is in hea'en: therefore there is a meas&re for the rain* and the angels take it in charge$ 8nd these things % saw towards the 0arden of the >ighteo&s$ 63 8nd the angel of peace who was with me said to me: These two monsters* prepared conformably to the greatness of 0od* shall feed $ $ $ 7hapter 3$ $ 8nd % saw in those days how long cords were gi'en to those angels* and they took to themsel'es wings and flew* and they went towards the north$ 6 8nd % asked the angel* saying &nto him: <hy ha'e those CangelsD taken these cords and gone off L 8nd he said &nto me: They ha'e gone to meas&re$ 3 8nd the angel who went with me said &nto me: These shall bring the meas&res of the righteo&s* 8nd the ropes of the righteo&s to the righteo&s* That they may stay themsel'es on the name of the :ord of /pirits for e'er and e'er$ 8 The elect shall begin to dwell with the elect* 8nd those are the meas&res which shall be gi'en to faith 8nd which shall strengthen righteo&sness$ # came forth from the earth* and that b&ll was white@ and after it came forth a heifer* and along with this ClatterD came forth two b&lls* one of them black and 8 the other red$ 8nd that black b&ll gored the red one and p&rs&ed him o'er the earth* and there&pon # % co&ld no longer see that red b&ll$ B&t that black b&ll grew and that heifer went with him* and 3 % saw that many oxen proceeded from him which resembled and followed him$ 8nd that cow* that first one* went from the presence of that first b&ll in order to seek that red one* b&t fo&nd him ' not* and lamented with a great lamentation o'er him and so&ght him$ 8nd % looked till that first / b&ll came to her and 5&ieted her* and from that time onward she cried no more$ 8nd after that she bore another white b&ll* and after him she bore many b&lls and black cows$ 9 8nd % saw in my sleep that white b&ll likewise grow and become a great white b&ll* and from -im proceeded many white b&lls* and they resembled him$ 8nd they began to beget many white b&lls* which resembled them* one following the other* Ce'enD many$ 7hapter /3 $ 8nd again % saw with mine eyes as % slept* and % saw the hea'en abo'e* and behold a star fell 6 from hea'en* and it arose and eat and past&red amongst those oxen$ 8nd after that % saw the large and the black oxen* and behold they all changed their stalls and past&res and their cattle* and began 3 to li'e with each other$ 8nd again % saw in the 'ision* and looked towards the hea'en* and behold % saw many stars descend and cast themsel'es down from hea'en to that first star* and they became 8 b&lls amongst those cattle and past&red with them amongst them$ 8nd % looked at them and saw* and behold they all let o&t their pri'y members* like horses* and began to co'er the cows of the oxen* # and they all became pregnant and bare elephants* camels* and asses$ 8nd all the oxen feared them and were affrighted at them* and began to bite with their teeth and to de'o&r* and to gore with their 3 horns$ 8nd they began* moreo'er* to de'o&r those oxen@ and behold all the children of the earth began to tremble and 5&ake before them and to flee from them$ 7hapter /' $ 8nd again % saw how they began to gore each other and to de'o&r each other* and the earth 6 began to cry alo&d$ 8nd % raised mine eyes again to hea'en* and % saw in the 'ision* and behold there came forth from hea'en beings who were like white men: and fo&r went forth from that place 3 and three with them$ 8nd those three that had last come forth grasped me by my hand and took me &p* away from the generations of the earth* and raised me &p to a lofty place* and showed me 8 a tower raised high abo'e the earth* and all the hills were lower$ 8nd one said &nto me: >emain here till tho& seest e'erything that befalls those elephants* camels* and asses* and the stars and the oxen* and all of them$ 7hapter // $ 8nd % saw one of those fo&r who had come forth first* and he sei.ed that first star which had fallen from the hea'en* and bo&nd it hand and foot and cast it into an abyss: now that abyss was 6 narrow and deep* and horrible and dark$ 8nd one of them drew a sword* and ga'e it to those elephants and camels and asses: then they began to smite each other* and the whole earth 5&aked 3 beca&se of them$ 8nd as % was beholding in the 'ision* lo* one of those fo&r who had come forth stoned CthemD from hea'en* and gathered and took all the great stars whose pri'y members were like those of horses* and bo&nd them all hand and foot* and cast them in an abyss of the earth$ 7hapter /9 $ 8nd one of those fo&r went to that white b&ll and instr&cted him in a secret* witho&t his being terrified: he was born a b&ll and became a man* and b&ilt for himself a great 'essel and dwelt thereon@ 6 and three b&lls dwelt with him in that 'essel and they were co'ered in$ 8nd again % raised mine eyes towards hea'en and saw a lofty roof* with se'en water torrents thereon* and those torrents 3 flowed with m&ch water into an enclos&re$ 8nd % saw again* and behold fo&ntains were opened on the s&rface of that great enclos&re* and that water began to swell and rise &pon the s&rface* 8 and % saw that enclos&re till all its s&rface was co'ered with water$ 8nd the

water* the darkness* and mist increased &pon it@ and as % looked at the height of that water* that water had risen abo'e the height of that enclos&re* and was streaming o'er that enclos&re* and it stood &pon the earth$ # 8nd all the cattle of that enclos&re were gathered together &ntil % saw how they sank and were 3 swallowed &p and perished in that water$ B&t that 'essel floated on the water* while all the oxen and elephants and camels and asses sank to the bottom with all the animals* so that % co&ld no longer see them* ' and they were not able to escape* Cb&tD perished and sank into the depths$ 8nd again % saw in the 'ision till those water torrents were remo'ed from that high roof* and the chasms / of the earth were le'eled &p and other abysses were opened$ Then the water began to r&n down into these* till the earth became 'isible@ b&t that 'essel settled on the earth* and the darkness 9 retired and light appeared$ B&t that white b&ll which had become a man came o&t of that 'essel* and the three b&lls with him* and one of those three was white like that b&ll* and one of them was red as blood* and one black: and that white b&ll departed from them$ $( 8nd they began to bring forth beasts of the field and birds* so that there arose different genera: lions* tigers* wol'es* dogs* hyenas* wild boars* foxes* s5&irrels* swine* falcons* '&lt&res* kites* eagles* and ra'ens@ $$ and among them was born a white b&ll$ 8nd they began to bite one another@ b&t that white b&ll which was born amongst them begat a wild ass and a white b&ll with it* and the $6 wild asses m&ltiplied$ B&t that b&ll which was born from him begat a black wild boar and a white $3 sheep@ and the former begat many boars* b&t that sheep begat twel'e sheep$ 8nd when those twel'e sheep had grown* they ga'e &p one of them to the asses* and those asses again ga'e &p that sheep to the wol'es* $8 and that sheep grew &p among the wol'es$ 8nd the :ord bro&ght the ele'en sheep to li'e with it and to past&re with it among the wol'es: and they m&ltiplied and became many flocks of sheep$ $#8nd the wol'es began to fear them* and they oppressed them &ntil they destroyed $3 cry alo&d on acco&nt of their little ones* and to complain &nto their :ord$ 8nd a sheep which had been sa'ed from the wol'es fled and escaped to the wild asses@ and % saw the sheep how they lamented and cried* and beso&ght their :ord with all their might* till that :ord of the sheep descended at the 'oice of the sheep from a lofty abode* and came to them and past&red them$ $' 8nd -e called that sheep which had escaped the wol'es* and spake with it concerning the wol'es that it sho&ld $/ admonish them not to to&ch the sheep$ 8nd the sheep went to the wol'es according to the word of the :ord* and another sheep met it and went with it* and the two went and entered together into the assembly of those wol'es* and spake with them and admonished them not to to&ch the $9 sheep from henceforth$ 8nd there&pon % saw the wol'es* and how they oppressed the sheep 6( exceedingly with all their power@ and the sheep cried alo&d$ 8nd the :ord came to the sheep and they began to smite those wol'es: and the wol'es began to make lamentation@ b&t the sheep became 6$ 5&iet and forthwith ceased to cry o&t$ 8nd % saw the sheep till they departed from amongst the wol'es@ b&t the eyes of the wol'es were blinded* and those wol'es departed in p&rs&it of the sheep 66 with all their power$ 8nd the :ord of the sheep went with them* as their leader* and all -is sheep 63 followed -im: and his face was da..ling and glorio&s and terrible to behold$ B&t the wol'es 68 began to p&rs&e those sheep till they reached a sea of water$ 8nd that sea was di'ided* and the water stood on this side and on that before their face* and their :ord led them and placed -imself between 6# them and the wol'es$ 8nd as those wol'es did not yet see the sheep* they proceeded into the midst of that sea* and the wol'es followed the sheep* and those wol'es ran after them into that sea$ 63 8nd when they saw the :ord of the sheep* they t&rned to flee before -is face* b&t that sea gathered itself together* and became as it had been created* and the water swelled and rose till it co'ered 6' those wol'es$ 8nd % saw till all the wol'es who p&rs&ed those sheep perished and were drowned$ 6/ B&t the sheep escaped from that water and went forth into a wilderness* where there was no water and no grass@ and they began to open their eyes and to see@ and % saw the :ord of the sheep 69 past&ring them and gi'ing them water and grass* and that sheep going and leading them$ 8nd that 3( sheep ascended to the s&mmit of that lofty rock* and the :ord of the sheep sent it to them$ 8nd after that % saw the :ord of the sheep who stood before them* and -is appearance was great and 3$ terrible and maBestic* and all those sheep saw -im and were afraid before -is face$ 8nd they all feared and trembled beca&se of -im* and they cried to that sheep with them which was amongst 36 them: <e are not able to stand before o&r :ord or to behold -im$ 8nd that sheep which led them again ascended to the s&mmit of that rock* b&t the sheep began to be blinded and to wander 33 from the way which he had showed them* b&t that sheep wot not thereof$ 8nd the :ord of the sheep was wrathf&l exceedingly against them* and that sheep disco'ered it* and went down from the s&mmit of the rock* and came to the sheep* and fo&nd the greatest part of them blinded and fallen 38 away$ 8nd when they saw it they feared and trembled at its presence* and desired to ret&rn to their 3# folds$ 8nd that sheep took other sheep with it* and came to those sheep which had fallen away* and began to slay them@ and the

sheep feared its presence* and th&s that sheep bro&ght back those 33 sheep that had fallen away* and they ret&rned to their folds$ 8nd % saw in this 'ision till that sheep became a man and b&ilt a ho&se for the :ord of the sheep* and placed all the sheep in that ho&se$ 3' 8nd % saw till this sheep which had met that sheep which led them fell asleep: and % saw till all the great sheep perished and little ones arose in their place* and they came to a past&re* and 3/ approached a stream of water$ Then that sheep* their leader which had become a man* withdrew 39 from them and fell asleep* and all the sheep so&ght it and cried o'er it with a great crying$ 8nd % saw till they left off crying for that sheep and crossed that stream of water* and there arose the two sheep as leaders in the place of those which had led them and fallen asleep Clit$ had fallen asleep and led 8( them D$ 8nd % saw till the sheep came to a goodly place* and a pleasant and glorio&s land* and % saw till those sheep were satisfied@ and that ho&se stood amongst them in the pleasant land$ 8$ 8nd sometimes their eyes were opened* and sometimes blinded* till another sheep arose and led them and bro&ght them all back* and their eyes were opened$ 86 8nd the dogs and the foxes and the wild boars began to de'o&r those sheep till the :ord of the sheep raised &p another sheep a ram from their 83 midst* which led them$ 8nd that ram began to b&tt on either side those dogs* foxes* and wild 88 boars till he had destroyed them all$ 8nd that sheep whose eyes were opened saw that ram* which was amongst the sheep* till it forsook its glory and began to b&tt those sheep* and trampled &pon them* and beha'ed itself 8# &nseemly$ 8nd the :ord of the sheep sent the lamb to another lamb and raised it to being a ram and leader of the sheep instead of that 83 ram which had forsaken its glory$ 8nd it went to it and spake to it alone* and raised it to being a ram* and made it the prince and leader of the sheep@ b&t d&ring all these things those dogs 8' oppressed the sheep$ 8nd the first ram p&rs&ed that second ram* and that second ram arose and fled before it@ and % saw till those dogs p&lled 8/ down the first ram$ 8nd that second ram arose 8/b and led the little sheep$ 8nd those sheep grew and m&ltiplied@ b&t all the dogs* and foxes* and wild boars feared and fled before it* and that ram b&tted and killed the wild beasts* and those wild beasts had no longer any power among the 89 sheep and robbed them no more of o&ght$ 8nd that ram begat many sheep and fell asleep@ and a little sheep became ram in its stead* and became prince and leader of those sheep #( 8nd that ho&se became great and broad* and it was b&ilt for those sheep: CandD a tower lofty and great was b&ilt on the ho&se for the :ord of the sheep* and that ho&se was low* b&t the tower was ele'ated and lofty* and the :ord of the sheep stood on that tower and they offered a f&ll table before -im$ #$ 8nd again % saw those sheep that they again erred and went many ways* and forsook that their ho&se* and the :ord of the sheep called some from amongst the sheep and sent them to the sheep* #6 b&t the sheep began to slay them$ 8nd one of them was sa'ed and was not slain* and it sped away and cried alo&d o'er the sheep@ and they so&ght to slay it* b&t the :ord of the sheep sa'ed it from #3 the sheep* and bro&ght it &p to me* and ca&sed it to dwell there$ 8nd many other sheep -e sent to those sheep to testify &nto them and lament o'er them$ #8 8nd after that % saw that when they forsook the ho&se of the :ord and -is tower they fell away entirely* and their eyes were blinded@ and % saw the :ord of the sheep how -e wro&ght m&ch sla&ghter amongst them in their herds &ntil ## those sheep in'ited that sla&ghter and betrayed -is place$ 8nd -e ga'e them o'er into the hands of the lions and tigers* and wol'es and hyenas* and into the hand of the foxes* and to all the wild #3 beasts* and those wild beasts began to tear in pieces those sheep$ 8nd % saw that -e forsook that their ho&se and their tower and ga'e them all into the hand of the lions* to tear and de'o&r them* #' into the hand of all the wild beasts$ 8nd % began to cry alo&d with all my power* and to appeal to the :ord of the sheep* and to represent to -im in regard to the sheep that they were de'o&red #/ by all the wild beasts$ B&t -e remained &nmo'ed* tho&gh -e saw it* and reBoiced that they were de'o&red and swallowed and robbed* and left them to be de'o&red in the hand of all the beasts$ #9 8nd -e called se'enty shepherds* and cast those sheep to them that they might past&re them* and -e spake to the shepherds and their companions: :et each indi'id&al of yo& past&re the sheep 3( henceforward* and e'erything that % shall command yo& that do ye$ 8nd % will deli'er them o'er &nto yo& d&ly n&mbered* and tell yo& which of them are to be destroyed-and them destroy ye$ 8nd 3$ -e ga'e o'er &nto them those sheep$ 8nd -e called another and spake &nto him: 9bser'e and mark e'erything that the shepherds will do to those sheep@ for they will destroy more of them than 36 % ha'e commanded them$ 8nd e'ery excess and the destr&ction which will be wro&ght thro&gh the shepherds* record CnamelyD how many they destroy according to my command* and how many according to their own caprice: record against e'ery indi'id&al shepherd all the destr&ction he 33 effects$ 8nd read o&t before me by n&mber how many they destroy* and how many they deli'er o'er for destr&ction* that % may ha'e this as a testimony against them* and know e'ery deed of the shepherds* that % may comprehend and see what they do* whether or not they abide by my 38 command which % ha'e commanded them$ B&t they shall

not know it* and tho& shalt not declare it to them* nor admonish them* b&t only record against each indi'id&al all the destr&ction which 3# the shepherds effect each in his time and lay it all before me$ 8nd % saw till those shepherds past&red in their season* and they began to slay and to destroy more than they were bidden* and they deli'ered 33 those sheep into the hand of the lions$ 8nd the lions and tigers eat and de'o&red the greater part of those sheep* and the wild boars eat along with them@ and they b&rnt that tower and demolished 3' that ho&se$ 8nd % became exceedingly sorrowf&l o'er that tower beca&se that ho&se of the sheep was demolished* and afterwards % was &nable to see if those sheep entered that ho&se$ 3/ 8nd the shepherds and their associates deli'ered o'er those sheep to all the wild beasts* to de'o&r them* and each one of them recei'ed in his time a definite n&mber: it was written by the other 39 in a book how many each one of them destroyed of them$ 8nd each one slew and destroyed many '( more than was prescribed@ and % began to weep and lament on acco&nt of those sheep$ 8nd th&s in the 'ision % saw that one who wrote* how he wrote down e'ery one that was destroyed by those shepherds* day by day* and carried &p and laid down and showed act&ally the whole book to the :ord of the sheep-Ce'enD e'erything that they had done* and all that each one of them had made '$ away with* and all that they had gi'en o'er to destr&ction$ 8nd the book was read before the :ord of the sheep* and -e took the book from his hand and read it and sealed it and laid it down$ '6 8nd forthwith % saw how the shepherds past&red for twel'e ho&rs* and behold three of those sheep t&rned back and came and entered and began to b&ild &p all that had fallen down of that '3 ho&se@ b&t the wild boars tried to hinder them* b&t they were not able$ 8nd they began again to b&ild as before* and they reared &p that tower* and it was named the high tower@ and they began again to place a table before the tower* b&t all the bread on it was poll&ted and not p&re$ '8 8nd as to&ching all this the eyes of those sheep were blinded so that they saw not* and Cthe eyes ofD their shepherds likewise@ and they deli'ered them in large n&mbers to their shepherds for '# destr&ction* and they trampled the sheep with their feet and de'o&red them$ 8nd the :ord of the sheep remained &nmo'ed till all the sheep were dispersed o'er the field and mingled with them Cthe beastsD* '3 and they Cthe shepherdsD did not sa'e them o&t of the hand of the beasts$ 8nd this one who wrote the book carried it &p* and showed it and read it before the :ord of the sheep* and implored -im on their acco&nt* and beso&ght -im on their acco&nt as he showed -im all the doings '' of the shepherds* and ga'e testimony before -im against all the shepherds$ 8nd he took the act&al book and laid it down beside -im and departed$ 7hapter 9( $ 8nd % saw till that in this manner thirty-fi'e shepherds &ndertook the past&ring Cof the sheepD* and they se'erally completed their periods as did the first@ and others recei'e them into their 6 hands* to past&re them for their period* each shepherd in his own period$ 8nd after that % saw in my 'ision all the birds of hea'en coming* the eagles* the '&lt&res* the kites* the ra'ens@ b&t the eagles led all the birds@ and they began to de'o&r those sheep* and to pick o&t their eyes and to 3 de'o&r their flesh$ 8nd the sheep cried o&t beca&se their flesh was being de'o&red by the birds* 8 and as for me % looked and lamented in my sleep o'er that shepherd who past&red the sheep$ 8nd % saw &ntil those sheep were de'o&red by the dogs and eagles and kites* and they left neither flesh nor skin nor sinew remaining on them till only their bones stood there: and their bones too fell # to the earth and the sheep became few$ 8nd % saw &ntil that twenty-three had &ndertaken the past&ring and completed in their se'eral periods fifty-eight times$ 3 B&t behold lambs were borne by those white sheep* and they began to open their eyes and to see* ' and to cry to the sheep$ Kea* they cried to them* b&t they did not hearken to what they said to / them* b&t were exceedingly deaf* and their eyes were 'ery exceedingly blinded$ 8nd % saw in the 'ision how the ra'ens flew &pon those lambs and took one of those lambs* and dashed the sheep 9 in pieces and de'o&red them$ 8nd % saw till horns grew &pon those lambs* and the ra'ens cast down their horns@ and % saw till there spro&ted a great horn of one of those sheep* and their eyes $( were opened$ 8nd it looked at them and their eyes opened* and it cried to the sheep* and the $$ rams saw it and all ran to it$ $6 8nd notwithstanding all this those eagles and '&lt&res and ra'ens and kites $3 still kept tearing the sheep and swooping down &pon them $8 and de'o&ring them: still the sheep remained silent* b&t the rams lamented and cried o&t$ $# 8nd those ra'ens fo&ght and battled with it and so&ght to lay low its horn* b&t they had no power o'er it$ $3 8ll the eagles and '&lt&res and ra'ens and kites were gathered together* $' and there came with them all the sheep of the field* $/ yea* they all came together* and helped each other to break that horn of the ram$ $9 8nd % saw till a great sword was gi'en to the sheep* and the sheep proceeded against all the beasts of the field to

slay them* and all the beasts and the birds of the hea'en fled before their face$ 8nd % saw that man* who wrote the book according to the command of the :ord* till he opened that book concerning the destr&ction which those twel'e last shepherds had wro&ght* and showed that they had destroyed m&ch more than their predecessors* before the :ord of the sheep$ 8nd % saw till the :ord of the sheep came &nto them and took in -is hand the staff of -is wrath* and smote the earth* and the earth cla'e as&nder* and all the beasts and all the birds of the hea'en fell from among those sheep* and were swallowed &p in the earth and it co'ered them$ 6( 8nd % saw till a throne was erected in the pleasant land* and the :ord of the sheep sat -imself thereon* and the other took the sealed books and opened those books before the :ord of the sheep$ 6$ 8nd the :ord called those men the se'en first white ones* and commanded that they sho&ld bring before -im* beginning with the first star which led the way* all the stars whose pri'y members 66 were like those of horses* and they bro&ght them all before -im$ 8nd -e said to that man who wrote before -im* being one of those se'en white ones* and said &nto him: Take those se'enty shepherds to whom % deli'ered the sheep* and who taking them on their own a&thority slew more 63 than % commanded them$ 8nd behold they were all bo&nd* % saw* and they all stood before -im$ 68 8nd the B&dgment was held first o'er the stars* and they were B&dged and fo&nd g&ilty* and went to the place of condemnation* and they were cast into an abyss* f&ll of fire and flaming* and f&ll 6# of pillars of fire$ 8nd those se'enty shepherds were B&dged and fo&nd g&ilty* and they were cast 63 into that fiery abyss$ 8nd % saw at that time how a like abyss was opened in the midst of the earth* f&ll of fire* and they bro&ght those blinded sheep* and they were all B&dged and fo&nd g&ilty and 6' cast into this fiery abyss* and they b&rned@ now this abyss was to the right of that ho&se$ 8nd % saw those sheep b&rning and their bones b&rning$ 6/ 8nd % stood &p to see till they folded &p that old ho&se@ and carried off all the pillars* and all the beams and ornaments of the ho&se were at the same time folded &p with it* and they carried 69 it off and laid it in a place in the so&th of the land$ 8nd % saw till the :ord of the sheep bro&ght a new ho&se greater and loftier than that first* and set it &p in the place of the first which had been folded &p: all its pillars were new* and its ornaments were new and larger than those of the first* the old one which -e had taken away* and all the sheep were within it$ 3( 8nd % saw all the sheep which had been left* and all the beasts on the earth* and all the birds of the hea'en* falling down and doing homage to those sheep and making petition to and obeying 3$ them in e'ery thing$ 8nd thereafter those three who were clothed in white and had sei.ed me by my hand who had taken me &p before* and the hand of that ram also sei.ing hold of me* they 36 took me &p and set me down in the midst of those sheep before the B&dgment took place$ 8nd those 33 sheep were all white* and their wool was ab&ndant and clean$ 8nd all that had been destroyed and dispersed* and all the beasts of the field* and all the birds of the hea'en* assembled in that ho&se* and the :ord of the sheep reBoiced with great Boy beca&se they were all good and had ret&rned to 38 -is ho&se$ 8nd % saw till they laid down that sword* which had been gi'en to the sheep* and they bro&ght it back into the ho&se* and it was sealed before the presence of the :ord* and all the sheep 3# were in'ited into that ho&se* b&t it held them not$ 8nd the eyes of them all were opened* and they 33 saw the good* and there was not one among them that did not see$ 8nd % saw that that ho&se was large and broad and 'ery f&ll$ 3' 8nd % saw that a white b&ll was born* with large horns and all the beasts of the field and all the 3/ birds of the air feared him and made petition to him all the time$ of 8nd % saw till all their generations were transformed* and they all became white b&lls@ and the first among them became a lamb* and that lamb became a great animal and had great black horns on its head@ and the :ord of the sheep 39 reBoiced o'er it and o'er all the oxen$ 8nd % slept in their midst: and % awoke and saw e'erything$ 8( This is the 'ision which % saw while % slept* and % awoke and blessed the :ord of righteo&sness and 8$ ga'e -im glory$ Then % wept with a great weeping and my tears stayed not till % co&ld no longer end&re it: when % saw* they flowed on acco&nt of what % had seen@ for e'erything shall come and 86 be f&lfilled* and all the deeds of men in their order were shown to me$ 9n that night % remembered the first dream* and beca&se of it % wept and was tro&bled-beca&se % had seen that 'ision$

7hapter $(' $ 8nd % saw written on them that generation &pon generation shall transgress* till a generation of righteo&sness arises* and transgression is destroyed and sin passes away from the earth* and all 6 manner of good comes &pon it$ 8nd now* my son* go and make known to thy son :amech that this 3 son* which has been born* is in tr&th his son* and that CthisD is no lie$ 8nd when 7eth&selah had heard the words of his father Enoch-for he had shown to him e'erything in secret-he ret&rned and showed CthemD to him and called the name of that son =oah@ for he will comfort the earth after all the destr&ction$ 7hapter $(/ $ 8nother book which Enoch wrote for his son 7eth&selah and for those who will come after him* 6 and keep the law in the last days$ Ke who ha'e done good shall wait for those days till an end is made of those who work e'il@ and an end of the might of the transgressors$ 8nd wait ye indeed till sin has passed away* 3 for their names shall be blotted o&t of the book of life and o&t of the holy books* and their seed shall be destroyed for e'er* 8 and their spirits shall be slain* and they shall cry and make lamentation in a place that is a chaotic wilderness* and in the fire shall they b&rn@ for there is no earth there$ 8nd % saw there something like an in'isible clo&d@ for by reason of its depth % co&ld not look o'er* and % saw a flame of fire bla.ing brightly* and things like shining # mo&ntains circling and sweeping to and fro$ 8nd % asked one of the holy angels who was with me and said &nto him: <hat is this shining thingL for it is not a hea'en b&t only the flame of a bla.ing 3 fire* and the 'oice of weeping and crying and lamentation and strong pain$ 8nd he said &nto me: This place which tho& seest-here are cast the spirits of sinners and blasphemers* and of those who work wickedness* and of those who per'ert e'erything that the :ord hath spoken thro&gh the mo&th ' of the prophets-Ce'enD the things that shall be$ For some of them are written and inscribed abo'e in the hea'en* in order that the angels may read them and know that which shall befall the sinners* and the spirits of the h&mble* and of those who ha'e afflicted their bodies* and been recompensed / by 0od@ and of those who ha'e been p&t to shame by wicked men: <ho lo'e 0od and lo'ed neither gold nor sil'er nor any of the good things which are in the world* b&t ga'e o'er their bodies to tort&re$ 9 <ho* since they came into being* longed not after earthly food* b&t regarded e'erything as a passing breath* and li'ed accordingly* and the :ord tried them m&ch* and their spirits were $( fo&nd p&re so that they sho&ld bless -is name$ 8nd all the blessings destined for them % ha'e reco&nted in the books$ 8nd he hath assigned them their recompense* beca&se they ha'e been fo&nd to be s&ch as lo'ed hea'en more than their life in the world* and tho&gh they were trodden &nder foot of wicked men* and experienced ab&se and re'iling from them and were p&t to shame* $$ yet they blessed 7e$ 8nd now % will s&mmon the spirits of the good who belong to the generation of light* and % will transform those who were born in darkness* who in the flesh were not recompensed $6 with s&ch hono&r as their faithf&lness deser'ed$ 8nd % will bring forth in shining light those who $3 ha'e lo'ed 7y holy name* and % will seat each on the throne of his hono&r$ 8nd they shall be resplendent for times witho&t n&mber@ for righteo&sness is the B&dgment of 0od@ for to the faithf&l $8 -e will gi'e faithf&lness in the habitation of &pright paths$ 8nd they shall see those who were* $# born in darkness led into darkness* while the righteo&s shall be resplendent$ 8nd the sinners shall cry alo&d and see them resplendent* and they indeed will go where days and seasons are prescribed for them$
