Low Power, 5 Electrode Electrocardiogram (ECG) Analog Front End

ERRATA SHEET

ADAS1000

A. This Errata sheet represents the known bugs and anomalies for first silicon X-Grade of the ADAS1000. First silicon XGrade is identified by the branding as shown below on the package, silicon ID may also be read from the Silicon Revision register (0x10). B. The Errata listed apply to all packaged material branded as follows : (Pre-Production/sample material) ADAS1000
ADAS1000XSTZ (64 lead LQFP package)

C. Analog Devices Inc. is committed, through future silicon revisions to continuously improve silicon functionality. Analog Devices Inc. will use its best endeavors to ensure that these future silicon revisions remain compatible with your present system. 1. Noise Performance a. ADAS1000 has a RFI noise performance target of <10uVpk-pk (0.05Hz to 150Hz bandwidth). Measured performance on existing silicon is approx 15uV pk-pk. Improvements are being made to realign with target.

2. Pop-corn like noise a. This noise can be seen as a function of DC level in the LEAD data. The magnitude of this noise can be 50uV to 100uV pk-pk and channel dependent. The origin is understood and fixes are being implemented.

Figure 1. Example of pop-noise issue applying slow 2mV sinewave with 1.5V offset on all channels.

3. DC Leads off a. Where just one electrode is used to define the common-mode, if that particular electrode becomes disconnected, then the device incorrectly flags that all other electrodes are off and the missing electrode is on. This is understood and will be corrected in future silicon.

4. AC Leads off (ACLO) a. ACLO works correctly to report the resulting voltage corresponding to cable impedance.

b. When using ACLO and using a common mode reference of one or more electrodes, the leads off flag may not report correctly. In a situation where an electrode is completely disconnected, the input amplifier and ADC saturate (to either rail), the ACLO algorithm now reports little or no ac amplitude and the corresponding lead off flag likely wont show correct status. i. In future silicon, a flag indicating ADC data is out of range will be added. 5. Respiration: I & Q format a. This is currently not supported and control of this bit (RESPFMT, Register 0x0A, bit 5) will have no effect. i. Will be accommodated in future silicon

6. Potential change to pinout in 2nd silicon

a. The RLD_OUT pin may be used for alternative purpose (yet to be confirmed). The pin number is LFCSP:16 or LQFP:19.

b. In user schematics, RLD_FB pin should be used for RLD output purposes. c. Pinout change will be advised once confirmed.

EVALUATION BOARD HARDWARE

1. Shield Amplifier/Respiration Feature a. Pin 60 can be internally configured to be the Shield Driver output or alternatively, the Respiration DAC Drive (RESP_DAC_P1). i. When using the Shield Drive (with the shield drive enabled in the software), the cable shield will be driven to the appropriate common mode reference point as derived onchip. ii. When using External Respiration feature, this internally switches pin 60 function to Respiration DAC Drive and therefore the cable shield will now be floating. b. Workaround: remove resistor R17 and short J1-6 (Shield) to board AGND. i. All evaluation boards post 1st April 2011 have this workaround. 2. L2 Ferrite Bead a. L2 ferrite (breaking analog and digital supply rails) introducing triangle step onto the AVDD power supply (when loaded). This noise isnt apparent in ECG data capture, it is rejected by the ADAS1000 PSRR performance. The ferrite position would have been better on the input side of the ADP151.

b. Workaround: the inductor may be left on the board without side effect to ADAS1000 performance; alternatively, user can short out the inductor i. L2 has been removed from all boards shipped after 1st April 2011 and a 0 resistor inserted in its place.
