Intake and Programme Structure i) The programme so far known as Two-Year PG Diploma in Port Management will hereafter be known as Post Graduate Diploma in Maritime Management Studies with specialisations in (1) Port Management, (2) Logistics & Shipping Management and (3) Coastal Resource and Infrastructure Management. The duration of the programme will be two years. ii) The total number of seats is 45. Out of these seats, 23 will be merit seats and 22 will be sponsored seats. iii) Reservation for SC/ST and SEBC candidates will be provided as per Gujarat University rules against the 23 merit seats. iv) The programme will consist of four semesters, spread over two years. The first three semesters will involve class room teaching, participation in seminars, workshops, site visits, etc. The fourth semester will be totally for onsite project work. At the end of the second semester, there will be an eight-week summer/winter internship in a maritime or related organisation. v) The number of students to be admitted to each of the above three specialisations will be decided at the end of the first semester. The number of students admitted to each specialisation will not exceed 20. 2. Eligibility Degree from a recognised University in Engineering/Science/Commerce/BBA/BCA with minimum 55% marks (50% for SC/ST and sponsored seats) 3. Course fee i) Rs.40,000/- per annum for merit seats and Rs.80,000/- per annum for sponsored seats. The merit seat students will be paying the fee at the rate of Rs.20,000/- at the beginning of each semester while the sponsored seat students will be paying the entire fee for the programme, i.e., Rs.1,60,000/-, in a lump sum at the time of admission. In addition,

all the students will be liable to pay University examination fee of Rs.1,000 for every semester and refundable caution deposit of Rs.2,000/- at the time of admission. ii) Those students who withdraw from the programme within one month of commencement of classes will be refunded 50 per cent of the fees paid. Thereafter no refund of fees will be made as it will not be possible to fill up vacancies arising from such withdrawals after one month. 4. Admission process i) Admission to the merit seats will be given based on the candidates performance in GCET 2011 for MBA to be conducted by the Gujarat Technological University. Therefore, the interested candidates may enrol for GCET 2011. For details of GCET 2011 please see the website of Gujarat Technological University. ii) For admission to the programme, out of the eligible applications received merit lists under different categories will be prepared based on the performance of the applicants in GCET 2011 and placed on the notice board of the School/university website. For the purpose, each applicant is required to submit a copy of his/her GCET rank to the School as soon as the same is made available by the GCET authorities. Failure to do so may result in the candidate not getting admission, even if eligible. iii) The 22 sponsored seats will be filled by candidates sponsored by institutions involved in port, logistics, shipping, coastal resource management and allied industries who have entered into or who would like to enter into MoU with the Gujarat University. Unfilled seats, if any, under the sponsored category will be given to the candidates in the merit list in the general category. iv) There will be no personal communications to the students. Interested applicants should monitor the Gujarat University website or School notice board on a day to day basis. vii) The application form should be downloaded from the university website and the duly filled in applications, along with cash or demand draft for Rs.200/- drawn in favour of the Registrar, Gujarat University and payable at Ahmedabad, as application form fee, should be submitted in person to the B.K. School of Business Management, Gujarat University, Ahmedabad 380009 (phone: 079-26304811) latest by July 30, 2011 (6.00 p.m.) for merit seats and July 31, 2011 (6.00 p.m.) for sponsored seats.

PROCEDURE FOR SPONSORING CANDIDATES (i) Application: Each candidate desirous of admission to the programme through sponsorship should apply in the application form given above. Further, the applicant should also submit a letter of sponsorship from the sponsoring institution at the time of application. Eligibility: Any institution associated directly or indirectly with the business of port, logistics, shipping, coastal resource management and allied industries, who have entered into or who would like to enter into MoU with the Gujarat University and who is likely to employ the candidate on successful completion of the programme, if found suitable, can sponsor the candidate. The institution should be approved by the Gujarat University by entering into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). Procedure: The institution intending to sponsor a candidate/s should enter into an MoU (or should have already entered into an MoU) with the Gujarat University on the lines of the draft attached with suitable modification, where warranted. The institution should also forward the sponsorship letters of each of its sponsored candidate/s along with non-refundable full course fees for four semesters, by way of a demand draft payable to Gujarat University at Ahmedabad along with course deposit, i.e. Rs.1,62,000/-. The institution may have its own agreement with the candidate/s sponsored by it with respect to the project work and further employment. Copy of the proforma for MoU is given below.

MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING (MOU)


This MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING (MOU) is made at Ahmedabad on ....................... between GUJARAT UNIVERSITY (hereinafter referred as GU), located at Navrangpura, Ahmedabad, a University established under the Gujarat University Act, and desirous of providing an employment-oriented post graduate diploma programme in Maritime Management Studies. AND ________________________________ (hereinafter referred to as _______) located at ............................................., a body/institution/company established for ............................................................................... and desirous of supporting the training for professionals in the port sector. The objective of this MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING is to train professionals for managing the fast expanding trade through the ports of Gujarat and other states of India. Keeping in view the need for training of the students and to enhance the learning process and improve upon by involving ____________ for various activities like research and development, projects with industry applications, etc., the said MoU herewith is signed. Both the GU and _______ intend to co-operate in the following areas and work jointly to bring closer the Industry and Academia. 1. To identify and create a panel of experts from _______ who has acquired specialised skills in the fields for expert talks (Visiting Faculty) and updating/review of curriculum. To identify the areas and offer projects to the students (course participants) and guiding for dissertation work as a part of the curriculum. To recognise and offer in-plant industrial visits/training and help to co-ordinate study tours in the respective specialised area for course participants. To conduct jointly periodic continuing education programmes in the emerging areas and inviting _______, Officers/Engineers as experts. To organise jointly workshops, seminars, etc. Providing information and publications related to the course. _______ may sponsor one to two candidates and/or help the course participants for their final placements. _______ will appoint one officer to co-ordinate the activities under this MOU.
