GENERAL
SELECTING A SOLENOID
The normal way to choose the size of a solenoid is by determining the work of the stroke, and the length for the duty cycle. The product ot the desired force (Kgt) and stroke (mm) determines the work of the stroke requ red. lt is recommended to add a 30 4O/o satety margin to the work done when selecting a solenoid. The duty cycle of the solenoid being determined by its application together with the previously calculated work done concludes the most suitable solenoid type. The stroke of the solenoid thus determined does not necessariy corre spond to that repuired, but in almost every case the transmission of the force can be arranged so that the entire strokeof the solenoid is used (e. g. by means of a lever). lf the stroke of the solenoid is not comptetety utitized, the work capacity of the solenoid is not fully exploited, resulting in a larger than necessary solenoid type be ng spe, cified. In exceptional cases, the force/stroke curve of the solenoid can be tailored to match the required appl cation.
FORCE/STROKE CHARACTERISTICS
The force/stroke characteristics are represented in the graph on the leaflet for the various solenoid s zes ano rne normalized duty cycle.
ATTENTION
The max. cycle time ol a solenoid is determined by its size and the amount of power consumed. Please check the Temperature rise/On time characteristic graph. Inquire of use regarding any special application you maght have. Chances are we have a unit that wall fit your applacation.
DIELECTRIC STFENGTH
500VAC for types 5M, 48,5L, 5H, 5C, 7N, 7lV and Tubular, 1000VAC{or other types are standard. A higher dielectnc strength option is availabte.(Test duration is 1 min.)
INSULATION RESISTANCE
.|00 megohm min. at 250VDC, 20"C, normal hurnidity for types 5M, 48, 5L, 5H, 6C, 7N, 7lV and Tubular. 100 megohm min. at 500VDC, 20"C, normal humidity for other types.
MARKING
Standard marking is, "KGS", "Japan", date code oI manufacture, and ldentiJication No. Other markings are available on request, if marking area space allows.

PLASTIC CAP
There are 4 lactors to determine response time: amplitlde of the load, input power, stroke, and solenoid size. For example, the type 94 response time is l3 millisecondswhen 1009 load, 0.5mm stroke and 6 watts, 80 milliseconos wnen 3009 load, 5mm stroke and 6 watts power are applied. To achieve laster response times, the lightest loads, highest Input power, shoatest stroke and size are to be considered.
TWO COTLS
lf you want continuous duty with smaller size for hold operation, two coil design is best. This is available as a special design. The primary coil operates at a high power level ot the intermittent duty {irst as shown in Fig. 1 ; then both coils (primary + seconda ry) hold the load continuouslyas shown in Fig.2, at a substantially lower power level than that ot a singie coil continuous duty solenoid.
