(b) Two current transformers of the same nominal ratio 500/5A are tested by
Silsbee method. With current in the secondary of the standard transfer-
mer adjusted at its rated value. The current in the middle conducter ∆I =
0.05e−J/26.90 expressed with repected to current in the secondary of standard
transformer as the reference. It is known that the standard transformer has
a ratio currection factor of 1.005 and phase error +8. Find RCF and phase
angle error of transformer under test. [8]

dielectric constant 10. if the capacitive transducer were to be made up of a
single dielectric material. What is the dielectric constant of that material?.[8]

1. (a) What do you mean by impedence loading [4]


(b) A rariable resistance potentiometric transducer having a resistance of 10 k
Ω is connected to a dc voltage source of 50 V. The voltage output of the
transducer is measured by means of a voltmeter of Internal Impendance of 100
Ω. Determine the impedance loading error at 20% position on the transducer
and the actual voltage reading observed at this position. [12]

2. Derive the expressions for magnitude and phase of a first order system when sub-
jected to a sinusoidal input signal. Draw the magnitude and phase as frequency
plots. [16]

3. (a) What do you mean by a true zero of a potentiometer. [6]


(b) A Basic slide wire potentiometer has a working battery voltage of 3.0 V with
negligible internal resistance. The resistance of slidwire is 400 Ω and its length
is 200 cm. A 200 cm scale is placed along the slide wire. The slide wire
has 1 mm scale divisions and it is possible to read upto 1/5 a division. The
Instrument is standardized with 1.018v. Standard cell with the sliding contact
at the 101.8 cm mark on scale. Calculate
i. working current
ii. The Resistance of series rheostat,
iii. The measurement rnage and
iv. the Resolution of Instrument. [10]

4. (a) Define the following terms as used for Instrument Transfermer. [6]
i. Transformation ratio
ii. Nominal Ratio
iii. Turn Ratio.
(b) A 1000/5 A, 50 Hz current transformer has a secondary burden comprising
a non inductive impendance of 0.6 Ω. The primary winding has one turn.
Calculate the flux in the core and ratio error at full load. Neglect leakage
reactance and assume the iron loss in the core to be 2 w at full load the
magnetizing mmf is 100 A. [10]

5. (a) How the capacitive transducer useful for measuring displacement using the
principle of change in dielectric constant. [8]

(b) A pressure-measuring instrument used a capacitive transducer having a spac-
ing of 4mm between its diaphragms. A pressure of 600kN/m2 produces an
average deflection of 0.3mmmof the diaphragm of the transducer. The trans-
ducer, which has a capacitance of 300pf before application of pressure and is
connected in an oscillator circuit having a frequency of 100 kHz. Determine
the change in frequency of the oscillator after the pressure is applied to the
transducer. [8]

6. (a) Derive the expressions for frequency response characteristics of piezo electric

7. (a) Explain the dynamic performance of feedback type acceleration transducer to


sinusoidal excitation, with velocity compensation. [8]

(b) A chromel-alumel thermocouple having a linear relationship between tempera-
ture and emf indicates zero at 00 C and 45.14mV at 11000 C. The thermocouple
is exposed to a temperature of 8400 C with cold junction maintained at 250 C,
calculate the induced emf. [8]
