Cisco VNI Mobile Forecast Update

Key Takeaways
Annual mobile data traffic for 2014 (40 exabytes) will be 133X greater than the total global mobile data traffic from 1980-2010. Global mobile data traffic is growing 2.4 times faster than fixed data traffic. Mobile video will be 66 % of global mobile data traffic by 2014 By 2014, there will be over 5 billion personal devices connected to the mobile network and billions more machine-to-machine nodes. The average mobile broadband-connected laptop will generate 5X more mobile data traffic in 2014 (7 gigabytes/mo) than 2009 (1.3 gigabytes/mo). Today, smartphones are only 10% of all handsets in use, but generate over 50% of global mobile data handset traffic. By 2014, over 400 million of the worlds Internet users will access the network solely through a mobile connection.

Enhanced Charging for Revenue Leakage
Problem
Seeing lost billing data due to lower reliable offline systems and external DPI Charging records were being generated by offline billing system
Transactional Mediation Rating
Pre-paid Post-paid

RADIUS, DIAMETER

Solution
Starent DPI with enhanced charging service tiered/differentiated billing application

Chargeable traffic

Category 1 (e.g. URL1 traffic) Category 2 (e.g. e-mail traffic)

Non-chargeable traffic Data Session Traffic

Results
Translated into $1000s per day in recovered revenue and no lost billing data
