Resolution on the Full Support of the Sanggunian ng mga Mag-aaral ng mga Paaralang
Loyola ng Ateneo de Manila to a National Legislation to Secure Students’ Rights and
Welfare

WHEREAS, the Sanggunian ng mga Mag-aaral ng mga Paaralang Loyola ng Ateneo de


Manila, hereby known as the Sanggunian, is the sole autonomous student government
of the Ateneo de Manila University Loyola Schools;

WHEREAS, the Sanggunian recognizes the rightful and vital role of the Filipino youth in
national efforts to advance and preserve freedom, democracy, human rights, national
dignity and interest, social justice, unity, peace, and development in Philippine society1;

WHEREAS, the Sanggunian is expected to raise the Ateneo student body’s critical
awareness and proactive involvement to issues and their root causes affecting the life
of the Filipino people and the nation2;

WHEREAS, the Sanggunian is founded on the purpose of protecting and advancing the
general welfare of the Ateneo Student Community3;

WHEREAS, the Sanggunian is founded on the principle of pursuing a policy of solidarity


with movements and student councils and with the marginalized sectors of society,
constant with its principles and purposes4;

WHEREAS, the Sanggunian is founded on the principle of upholding the Magna Carta
for Undergraduate Students’ Rights of the students of the Ateneo de Manila University
Loyola Schools5;

WHEREAS, the Sanggunian continuously seeks and actively lobbies for the welfare of its

student body;

WHEREAS, the Sanggunian has started its involvement on the issue by sending
representatives to the first NCR Students Rights and Welfare Coalition held at the De La
Salle University-Manila last July 30, 2011;

WHEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Sanggunian shall be officially represented in the


NCR Students Rights and Welfare Coalition aimed at having a unified stance in the push
for Student Rights and Welfare Bill;

WHEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Sanggunian and all of its units, departments and
arms publish a unified stance on the Students Rights and Welfare Bill;

WHEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Sanggunian, including all of its units, departments
and arms hereby declares its full support for the immediate passage of the STRAW Bill
through Congress and be quickly enacted into law;

WHEREFORE BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Sanggunian ng mga Mag-aaral ng mga


Paaralang Loyola ng Ateneo de Manila, will fully support the push for a national
legislation for the STRAW Bill in the House of Representatives and the Senate through the
following:
a.) proactively inform and defend the rights of the students of the Loyola Schools
as stated in the Magna Carta of Students Rights
b.) educate Ateneans and communities regarding the STRAW Bill’s importance in
creating a more just and free university
c.) ensure effective information management and communication with external
networks and member organizations, groups and councils of the NCR STRAW Coalition
d.) as a member of the coalition, pay a necessary membership fee to assure the
coalition of the Sanggunian’s commitment to the movement and to enable the
coalition to function
e.) invite various student networks, organizations and student governments to
participate and engage in all related activities
f.) actively participate in the activities related to the passage of the STRAW Bill by
sending official representatives to the NCR Students Rights and Welfare Coalition.
g.) help coordinate with lobbying efforts to the House of Representatives and
Senate

WHEREFORE, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Sanggunian calls on its constituents to


also play an active role in lobbying for the passage of this important piece of legislation
by:
a.) continuously being vigilant in the protection of and/or various abuses done
by or against the rights of the students;

b.) actively promoting the bill and its importance in their respective
organizations, groups and networks;
c.) helping educate communities, organizations and student governments about
the importance of the bill;
d.) joining the task force formed by the Sanggunian for the purpose of the call
for immediate passage of the bill.

WHEREFORE BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED, that this resolution be enacted upon a majority


vote by the Central Board.
