Course Description
Precalculus is a combination of Trigonometry, Mathematical Analysis, and Linear Algebra. Topics studied include mathematical and Trigonometric functions, trigonometric identities, conic sections, and limits. These concepts are especially important for students intending to study calculus, more advanced mathematics, physics, and other sciences and engineering in college.

Course Objectives
This course will cover the following topics: Linear and Parent Functions (MA Standard 4.0) Polynomial and Rational Functions (MA Standards 2.0, 4.0, 6.0) Exponential and Logarithmic Functions (Alg 2 Standard 14.0) Trigonometric Functions and Identities (Trig Standards 1.0, 2.0, 3.0, 4.0, 5.0, 6.0, 8.0) Triangle Trigonometry (Trig Standards 7.0, 10.0, 11.0, 13.0) Complex Numbers and Polar Coordinates (Trig Standards 15.0, 16.0, 17.0, MA 2.0) Linear Systems and Matrices (LA Standards 1.0, 4.0, 5.0, 9.0, 10.0) Sequences and Series (Alg 2 Standards 22.0, 23.0) Probability (Alg 2 Standards 18.0, 19.0) Binomial Expansion (Alg 2 Standard 20.0) Analytic Geometry (MA Standard 5..0) Non-linear Inequalities (Alg 2 Standard 2.0) Limits (MA Standard 8.0)

Instructor Expectations
Students will be in class, on time, and ready to work. Students will bring necessary materials each day (pencils, pens, paper, notebook, related handouts, etc.). Students will complete their own assignments and make up missed work and assessments. All assigned work must be done neatly in pencil. Students must identify the date, assigned pages, the problems, show all work/steps, and follow the required format for assignments. Students will keep personal matters outside of the classroom, allowing the teacher to instruct and guide lessons, and giving fellow students every opportunity to learn. Students will set aside additional time to study each day, especially prior to a quiz, benchmark, test, or final.

Classroom Expectations
The following behaviors are expected of each student everyday Be on time and prepared for class everyday. Respect the teacher, fellow students, and their property, and the classroom. Follow directions the first time they are given. Keep all food, drink, gum, personal grooming, and personal business outside the classroom. Be courteous and cooperative with others.

Assigned Work and Grading Scales


All work that is assigned must be complete and ready to turn in by the designated due date. No late work will be accepted. The following weights and grade scale will be used for this course: Grading Scale: Grade Weights:

Attendance Policy
Due to the rigorous nature of this course, attendance is crucial to the success of the student. Students not in their seat when the bell rings will be marked tardy. Tardy students will receive a warning and/or teacher detention. After the 3rd tardy the student will receive a referral. Students with an excused absence will have an extension to make up missed work, however, absences do not excuse the student from the work. It is the students responsibility to get make-up work. Students are also expected to check the class website before returning to class and be prepared for any assessments on the day they return.

Cheating/Plagiarism
Students that are caught in the act or after the fact of cheating and/or committing plagiarism will receive a zero on the assignment in question. Cheating will not be tolerated.

Use of Electronic Devices


Students are not to be making calls, sending or checking text messages, checking voicemails/messages, watching videos, comparing/sharing ringtones, listening to music (iPod, mp3, phone, or any other device), and/or anything else that distracts from being in class. These devices and headphones should never be out in class without the teachers permission. 1st offense- warning. 2nd offense (and up)- referral. At this point in a students mathematical career they should be thinking about having their own graphing calculator. TI-83+ or TI-84+ models are preferred. Graphing calculators will be available in class for the students use.
