THE HAGERMAN FAMILY Itaugu, Paraguay

August, 2011 Happy autumn! We are enjoying uncommonly warm days here, in what is normally a really cold month in Paraguay. What a treat! It seems the US has had some uncommon warmth, too. As youre getting ready for school to start back, we are already past the middle of the school year here. Check the next page for the latest on our school ministries. The past few months have been a whirlwind of doctors appointments, tests, physical therapy, and trips to the gym for home therapy. I (Christie) have come to a grinding halt on progress for now, due to a tear in the cartilage of my knee. My next surgery is scheduled for the end of October, when the plate and screws will be removed from my femur, and the cartilage will be repaired. For now, Im trying to elevate and rest the knee as much as possible (as long as I can stand to sit still) and use a cane to hobble around. The diagnosis isnt very pretty, but we are praying for Gods miraculous intervention, and trusting Him for grace to get through each day. Ken has pretty much recovered from his open-heart surgery. His main focus now is weaning off all those medicines and getting back to normal.

Many peoples will come and say, "Come, let us go up to the mountain of the LORD... He will teach us his ways, so that we may walk in his paths." Isaiah 2:3

Camille and Caroline have been busy acting as translators for the summer mission teams. A group of three interns came from Lee University for 10 weeks, and Camille and Caroline got to be a part of their drama classes, Bible school, community English classes, and several other projects. About the time these three girls were ready to leave, another group of five young people from TN came for a little over a week, and Camille and Caroline continued translating. What great things they learned from these two groups! Were very proud of them for stepping up and helping out, and were thrilled at how God used these teams to be a blessing to the neighborhood, to the school, and to our family.

Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes finally arrived, and we had the privilege of handing some out at the little school in Loma Clavel. The students were so surprised, and took the rest of the afternoon to sort through their boxes, ask us what some of the things were, and show each other what they got. Each box comes with a full-color Bible-story workbook, which we use with them for Bible lessons each month. We also handed out a little more than 60 boxes to the school here in Itaugu at a celebration for National Day of the Child. And thanks to a special donation, we were able to get 17 pairs of shoes on some very needy little feet. What a joy to be able to share Gods love with these little people, by way of folks giving from across the world!

We have begun another session of classes based on the book Lies Young Women Believe and the Truth that Sets Them Free. This time the participants are 7th and 8th grade girls in the school here on the property. We meet on Friday mornings for brownies and Bible study, focusing on knowing the plan God has for each of us and following it. The book has been a great tool, as it combats the lies of the enemy using scripture that directly applies to the lives of girls. We know that God has plans for these young princesses, and what a thrill it is to watch them realize it, too. While we girls are meeting, the guys of those grades gather with Ken and Sal for a Bible study based on the book Winning in the Land of Giants. This past Friday as we were leaving, the director of the school asked me to come back for their afternoon assembly, to preach. After a blindfolded banana eating contest, we learned about Sauls blinding experience and how we can let Gods light illuminate our sin and set us free.

Thank you once again for your encouragement, your support, and most importantly, your prayers for our family and for the people of this country. You share in the ministry that takes part here, and we dont take it lightly to be your partners in the mission work. May God bless you as you have blessed us!!
