Nu Flow Saves Stunning Skyscraper While Lining 19 Floors

Nu Flow rehabilitated 19 stories of corroded sewer stacks in one of Downtown San Diegos most recognizable skyscrapers using our no-dig technology. The 30-year-old cast iron sewer pipe system in Columbia Center was corroded, which blocked normal flow and created back-ups. Management was paying professionals to come in and clean the pipes back to their original diameter, which was timely, costly and only a temporary fix. Nu Flow was able to install an effective solution without requiring any destruction or reconstruction to the office building. Project: Clean the corroded pipe systems and install Nu Flows trenchless, cured-in-place structural liner to prevent future corrosion or back-ups without causing any disruption to normal operations inside the office building or destroying any ceilings, walls or floors. Customer: SENTRE Partners, a real estate investment and services firm founded in 1989. SENTRE Partners has acquired and/or developed structures in Southern California and Mexico worth more than $2 billion. Site: Columbia Center, a 27-story office building in Downtown San Diego, California, that offers panoramic views of San Diego Bay and the Pacific Ocean. It was built in the early 1980s and has a beautiful Italian marble lobby floor. Columbia Center is recognizable not only from its great height, but because it flies the largest American flag out of any building in the San Diego skyline. System: 228 feet of cast iron drain pipes in the north sewer stack, from the 7th floor to the 25th floor, with diameters ranging from 3 to 6. 120 feet of cast iron drinking fountain and kitchen stacks with a diameter of 4, from the 6th floor through the 15th floor. Situation: The original cast iron pipes experienced chronic corrosion, which obstructed flow and caused back-ups in the sewer stacks. Management decided that a long-term fix was necessary, so Nu Flow was hired to bring the pipes back to their original diameter and prevent future corrosion problems. Solution: Nu Flow cleaned and rehabilitated the sewer stacks with structural liners without disturbing the tenants or the construction of the building. Nu Flow first cleaned and descaled the pipes, opening them up to allow normal flow. Then our technicians installed our structural lining, forming a corrosionproof pipe inside the host cast iron pipe. Our structural lining is seamless, jointless and cures in place.

Nu Flow solved the corrosion problems on these vertical stack pipes that service 27 stories of class A office space.

With Nu Flows no-dig, cured-in-place technology, the right solution to rehabilitating pipe systems in skyscrapers is the easy, cost-effective solution.
